  2. WAR OF THE PACIFIC - PART TWO: BOLIVIA-CHILE

THE WAR OF THE PACIFIC - PART TWO:   BOLIVIA - CHILE
    by Connaugh

The War of the Pacific, also known as the Saltpeter War was between Chile on one side and a Bolivian-Peruvian alliance on the other. It lasted from 1879 to 1884, and was fought over Chilean claims on coastal Bolivian territory in the Atacama Desert. The war ended with victory for Chile, which gained a significant resource-rich territory from Peru and Bolivia. However, Bolivia retains the policy of a territorial claim of a sovereign outlet to the Pacific Ocean and the armed forces carry the slogan "The sea is our right. To recover it is a must".

    SITUATION:

Bolivia has invaded Chile in an attempt to regain the lost territory from the 1879 War. Bolivian Armored Forces crossed the border in a blitzkrieg with the goal of occupying the port city of Antofagasta. Chilean forces have been forced to retreat from the cities of San Pedro de Atacama, Cerro Pular, San Francisco de Chiu Chiu, Calama, and Sierra Gorda.

    MISSION:

Chilean Armored Columns are to advance to Antofagasta and defend the city.
Next, an advance to take back the lost cities and drive the Bolivians out of Chile.

    EXECUTION:

A and B Companies will advance to Antofagasta and defend the city.
A Company will then recapture Carmen Alto, Sierra Gorda, Maria Elena, and Calama.
B Company will then recapture San Cristobal and Cerro Pular.
The two forces will then combine to recapture San Pedro de Atacama and San Francisco de Chiu Chiu.

    FORCE COMPOSITION:

    A Company:    2 x Leopard 2A4 Platoons,  1 Marder 1A3 Platoon
    B Company:    2 x Leopard 2A4 Platoons,  1 Marder 1A3 Platoon

CSS of Repair, Medical, and Supply will accompany each force.
2 Artillery Batteries of 6 tubes each will be available.

Bolivian forces include TAM VC tanks, Centauros, and M113 PC's and Infantry with anti-tank weapons.

    Artillery is expected.
Message that an objective is captured will be generated.

  3. THE GRAN CHACO - BOLIVIA-PARAGUAY- PART TWO

THE GRAN CHACO  - BOLIVIA-PARAGUAY - PART TWO

    By Connaugh

The Chaco War (1932–1935); was fought between Bolivia and Paraguay over control of the northern part of the Gran Chaco region of South America which was thought to be rich in oil. It is also referred to as La Guerra de la Sed (Spanish for "The War of Thirst") in literary circles, for being fought in the semi-arid Chaco. The origin of the war is commonly attributed to a long-standing territorial dispute and the discovery of oil deposits on the Andean plains. In 1929, the Treaty of Lima ended the hopes of the Bolivian government of recovering a land corridor to the Pacific Ocean, which was thought imperative to further development and trade. Both Bolivia and Paraguay were landlocked. Though the Chaco was sparsely populated, control of the Paraguay River running through it provided access to the Atlantic Ocean. This became especially important to Bolivia, which had lost its Pacific coast to Chile in the 1879 War of the Pacific.

     SITUATION:

Bolivia has invaded the Gran Chaco again in an attempt to gain control of the region.

    MISSION:

Paraguayan forces are to advance into the Gran Chaco region and relieve  Nanawa which is being besieged by Bolivian forces. Then, an advance is to be made to capture Boqeuron, Isla Poi, Picuiba, Alihuata, Campo Via, Corrales, Toledo, El Carmen and then carry the war into Bolivia and capture Canada Strongest.

    EXECUTION:

Northern Force will advance from Puerto Casado and capture Boqeron, Isla Poi,  Picuiba, and El Carmen.
Southern Force will advance from Asuncion and relieve the siege at Nanawa, then advance to capture Alihuata, Camp Via, Corrales, and Toledo.
The two forces will then combine to cross into Bolivia and assault Canada Strongest.

    FORCE COMPOSTION:

    Northern Force:             1 x Leopard 1A5 Platoon
                                          1 x Centauro Platoon
                                          1 x Motorized Infantry Platoon

    Southern Force:             1 x Leopard 1A5 Platoon
                                          1 x Centauro Platoon
                                          1 x Motorized Infantry Platoon

CSS of Repair, Medical, and Supply will accompany each force.
2 Artillery Batteries of 6 tubes each will be available.

Bolivian forces include TAM VC tanks and Infantry with Anti-tank weapons.
    Artillery is expected.

  4. THE TOYOTA WAR: CHAD-LIBYA 1987

    THE TOYOTA WAR: CHAD-LIBYA 1987
    by Connaugh

The Toyota War is the name commonly given to the last phase of the Chadian-Libyan conflict, which took place in 1987 in Northern Chad and on the Libyan–Chadian border. It takes its name from the Toyota Pickup trucks used, primarily the Toyota Hilux and the Toyota Land Cruiser, to provide mobility for the Chadian troops as they fought against the Libyans. The war began with the Libyan occupation of northern Chad in 1983, when Libya's leader Muammar Gaddafi, refusing to recognize the legitimacy of the Chadian President Hissene Habre, militarily supported the attempt by the opposition Transitional Government of National Unity (GUNT) to overthrow Habré. The plan was foiled by the intervention of France which limited Libyan expansion to north of the 16th parallel, in the most arid and sparsely inhabited part of Chad.

    SITUATION:

Libyan forces have fortified various villages into strong-holds in Northern Chad.

    MISSION:

Chadian Forces are to assault and capture the Libyan strong-holds of Faya-Largeau, Fada, Ougui, Quadi Doum, Zour, Ountanga Kebir, and Aouzou using the mobility of their "Toyota" trucks. If possible, a raid into Libya to capture the Air Base of Maatan-As-Sarra is to be attempted.

    FORCE COMPOSITION:

    3 x 50 Cal MG Truck Platoons
    3 x TOW Truck Platoons
    3 x RCL Truck  Platoons
    3 x Truck Infantry Platoons
    3 x Supply Trucks

2 Artillery batteries of 3 tubes. HE only.

  5. Chorwon Valley Defense (Korea)

The 10th DTG of the North Korean Army is attacking south to Seoul through the Chorwon Valley. Establish your defense and defend!

This file is based upon a historical Maneuver Captains Career Course battalion phase training scenario. The development of this particular SB file started in 2010 and was used by several career course training groups as part of their "battalion phase" staff training. This version of the scenario removed the other company teams in order to make it playable as a medium sized coop mission. Enjoy!

Then assist the Etruscan Infantry by capturing Mersa Matruh. Next, the Armored units will swing east to assault Bir Sarahna, Minqar Qaim, and Bir Kalda. The Commonwealth positions will be defended by the 10th Indian, 50th Northumbrian, and 2nd New Zealand infantry units along with the battered remnants of the 1st and 7th Armored. 13. The Schleswig-Holstein Question -- Resolved

    The Schleswig-Holstein Question -- Resolved
     by Connaugh

The Schleswig-Holstein Question  was a complex set of diplomatic and other issues arising in the 19th century from the relations of two duchies, Schleswig and Holstein to the Danish crown and to the German Confederation. The British statesman Lord Palmerston is reported to have said: “Only three people have ever really understood the Schleswig-Holstein business—the Prince Consort, who is dead—a German professor, who has gone mad—and I, who have forgotten all about it". The central question was whether the duchy of Schleswig was or was not an integral part of the dominions of the Danish crown, with which it had been associated in the Danish monarchy for centuries or whether Schleswig should, together with Holstein, become an independent part of the German Confederation. The Second Schleswig War in 1864 resolved the Schleswig–Holstein Question violently, by forcing the king of Denmark to renounce all his rights in the duchies in favour of Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria and King William I of Prussia

Currently, the "Irredentia" Party gained control of the Danish Parliament and secret preparations for reacquiring Schleswig began.

    Mission:
Danish Armored Forces will cross the border and take back Schleswig. The main objectives will be the Towns of Husum and Schleswig. Initial resistance is expected to be light and the Armored columns are to rapidly seize the objectives and prepare for German counterattacks.

    Execution:
1st Brigade will advance rapidly down Highway A7 and seize Schleswig.
2nd Brigade will advance rapidly down Highway B5 and seize Husum.

  22. North Of Niederaula, 1987

    Summer, 1987

Another Cold War 1987 scenario.  This is set on the Fulda-Bad Hersfeld map.

A Soviet division, together with East German NVA (Nationale Volksarmee) support has taken Bad Hersfeld during the prior day.  Now that night has fallen, intelligence from headquarters says that a tank company with mechanized support is rolling down the valley toward Niederaula, while a smaller force probes the valley to your east...Unless they're wrong?

You lead the battered remnants of the 11th ACR's 2nd squadron.  Help is on the way, if you can hold them off long enough.
Your opponent has superior firepower, and heavy armor in numbers, but you have superior night vision technology.

This is designed to be played as an easy to moderate difficulty cooperative scenario, with a group of 2-4 players commanding various platoons.  Much of the action is going to be based on finding good spots for your dismounts and other anti-tank assets to ambush the enemy, and you have recon assets on hand to find those locations.

It is possible to play as a single player.

Have a plan in mind to deal with unforeseen circumstances.
