9. AMBUSH - THE BATTLE OF DEZFUL IRAN-IRAQ WAR 1981

AMBUSH - THE BATTLE OF DEZFUL
    IRAN-IRAQ WAR 1981

    by Connaugh

Iran planned Operation Nasr to be an armored offensive in Khuzestan province (the main province that Iraq attacked). It was designed to relieve the city of Abadan, which was under what would be a nearly year-long siege. The main attack would be carried out by three armored brigades of the 16th Qazvin armored division and the 55th paratrooper brigade of the regular army. The armored thrust would cross the Karkheh River drive from the northeast part of the province past the cities of Susangerd and Ahvaz, down the west bank of the Karun River. At the same time, forces inside Abadan would break out of their positions, and link up with the armored column arriving from the north.

    SITUATION:

Iraqi Armored Forces have planned an ambush on both sides of the Highway that the Iranian Force is to travel.

    EXECUTION:

The Iraqi force is to stop the Iranians from exiting the Southern Border of the map.

    FORCE COMPOSITION:

    Iraq: 6 x T-62 Tank Sections
                Infantry with anti-tank weapons
3 Artillery batteries of 4 tubes each

  10. The Elgin Marbles - Reclaimed

THE ELGIN MARBLES - RECLAIMED by Connaugh

    SITUATION:

The Elgin Marbles are a collection of Classical Greek marble sculptures made under the supervision of the architect and sculptor Phidias and his assistants. They were originally part of the temple of the Parthenon and other buildings on the Acropolis of Athens.

In 1801, Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin obtained a firman, which was an official decree,] from the Sublime Porte, the central government of the Ottoman Empire which were then the rulers of Greece, which allowed for the shipping of the marbles from Greece. From 1801 to 1812, the Earl's agents removed about half of the surviving sculptures of the Parthenon, as well as sculptures from the Propylaea and Erechtheum. The Marbles were transported by sea to Britain. In Britain, the acquisition of the collection was supported by some while some others, such as Lord Byron, likened the Earl's actions to vandalism or looting.

Following a public debate in Parliament and the subsequent exoneration of Elgin, he sold the Marbles to the British government in 1816. They were then passed to the British Museum, where they are now on display in the purpose-built Duveen Gallery.

After gaining its independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1832, Greece began a series of projects to restore its monuments. It has expressed its disapproval of Elgin's removal of the Marbles from the Acropolis and the Parthenon, which is regarded as one of the world's greatest cultural monuments. Greece continues to urge the return of the marbles to Greece for their unification by diplomatic and political means.

    MISSION:

Failing to have Britain return the Elgin Marbles, Greece has planned an amphibious assault and Greek Armored Forces will land in London and take back the Elgin Marbles.

    EXECUTION:

Greek Armored Forces will move amphibious PT-76 tanks and M113 APC's up the Thames River and land at the Blackfriars Bridge. Heavy Transport will bring in a platoon of 1A5 Leopard tanks. This force will advance quickly to The British Museum and secure the objective while trucks disembarked from another transport will be loaded with the marbles. The force will then make its way back to Blackfriars Bridge and embark for Greece.

Britain will counter with the Scots Guards, who are stationed at The Wellington Barracks, London. The Scots Guards are comprised of Scimitars, Scorpions, and Warriors and infantry with anti-tank weapons. The Scots Guards will attempt to block the return of the force with the Marbles on its way back to Blackfriars Bridge.

No artillery support will be available. The area of operations is in the City of London and there is to be no collateral damage. Rules of Engagement preclude the harming of any citizens.

    Mission Completion:

Platoon 6A (Trucks) must spend 15 minutes at the British Museum (loading the marbles) and then move to Blackfriars Bridge for extraction.

  12. Platoon tactical movement exercise (2.654)

A platoon of 4 x M1A1s conducts a reconnaissance-in-force to penetrate REDFOR's security zone and locate the main defensive zone. Inspired by GaryOwen's "Camp Hornfelt" scenario pack, I created this mission as the first in a (hopefully) series of COOP training exercises to practice section and platoon formation movement, bounding overwatch, and battle drills. Ideally played with up to eight players (two per tank), but can be played by a single player who is up for a challenge.

REDFOR is heavily randomized to enhance replayability. BLUEFOR's reconnaissance zone is potentially 15 km deep. Thus, depending on where REDFOR spawns (and on the bold or cautious nature of BLUEFOR's movement), mission duration may be well in excess of 90 minutes. Or less than 30.

This is an alpha version of the mission. PLEASE leave feedback if you like it -- or hate it -- or if it does not work for some reason! ----------------------------------- v.0.59 > disabled undocumented "Cross LD" trigger. This trigger which previously caused 2nd platoon to embark on its routes, was included to facilitate playtesting. It is now superfluous > added some tactical variety to Combat Security Outpost behavior. > improved REDFOR BP occupation. > corrected file name to reflect that mission occurs on Ft. Knox -- not Ft. Hood -- map. v.0.85 > fixed issue where mission ends after consolidating the two sections > increased visibility from 4,000m to 5,000m > split supporting artillery into two platoons of 4 tubes each > changed terrain theme to Realism_Woodland_(Summer)

  14. OPERATION RAVIV: THE TEN-HOUR WAR

    OPERATION RAVIV: THE TEN-HOUR WAR

    By Connaugh

Operation Raviv, also known as the Ten-Hour War, was a mounted raid conducted by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) on Egypt's Red Sea coast during the War of Attrition. Taking place on September 9, 1969, Raviv was the sole major ground offensive undertaken by the IDF against Egypt throughout the war. The raid was to be carried out by Israeli armor and infantry masquerading as Egyptian troops. Arab hardware captured during the Six-Day War had been introduced into service with the IDF, and the force was to use Tiran 5 tanks (IDF designation for the T-55) and BTR-50 armored personnel carriers, camouflaged with the Egyptian sand-colored scheme.

    MISSION:
Harel Force, comprised of six T-55 Tanks and three BTR-50 PC’s, is to be landed at El Hafair, south of Suez on the Egyptian coast, by the 11th Flotilla and conduct a raid destroying Egyptian Outposts and Radar Stations. Then, the force is to meet up with the 11th Flotilla at Ras Saafrana and be ferried back to Israeli-held territory in the Sinai.

    OBJECTIVES:
Radar Stations at Abu Darag and Ras Saafrana and Egyptian Outposts 1 and 2 on the
Red Sea Coast are to be captured.

    FORCE COMPOSITION:

    2 x T-55 Tank Platoons
    1 x BTR-50 PC Platoon
CSS of Repair, Medical, and Supply

5 x Air strikes will be available

    Player Notes:
The 11th Flotilla will land at El Hafair and disembark Harel Force.
The CO can then assign vehicles to players.
Message that an objective has been captured will be generated.
