I think this is something that Apache air crews train or at least very familiar with. I know from an incident very similar in 2007, South of Ramadi Iraqi. An Apache crew evacuated one of our Soldiers from the Battle of Donkey Island. The air crew put him in the helicopter and the other while one of the two pilots strapped themselves to the wing in the same manner as the Royal Marines. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/18/AR2007081801270_4.html?hpid=topnews Jamaledine was later evacuated by an Apache helicopter, one of whose pilots, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Allen Crist, gave his seat to Jamaledine and rode strapped to the aircraft's exterior. Meanwhile, Lauer, out of his Humvee, had been shot in the shoulder and was pinned down in a ditch.
