  1. I looked over some of the screenies from the beginning of this thread right to the end and it looks brilliant how the sim has progressed over the years. I've still yet to play online with you guys but I have been practicing Anyway, I posted a series of screenies on my clans website to try and get some interest, and here is one of the screenies I posted.
  2. Yeah there were a couple of times the gunner wouldn't identify so I had to shoot them myself, another instance was when I went over the brow of a hill real slow and came across a BMP literally right in front of me, panic mode, pants filled, gunner would not fire, so I switched to his position only to find I was out of ammo, lol, quick retreat while the BMP fired one across my hull. I just can't wait until I do some serious ops.
  3. BLOODY HELL!!!!!! I figured it out . I have to admit some of the stuff you guys mentioned above didn't make sense. Now..... there is a very good reason for this, I didn't read the bloody wiki. So this comment threw me out. When I have been practicing I spent most of the time in the observers position or the commanders unbuttoned position and zoomed in, then when a target was spotted I would go straight to the gunners sight but for some reason the commander was not slewing the gun to the target and that was why I was getting taken out so easily. So I ran over all your posts again and again, and thought what the hell is this dual function thingy, so I finally read the wiki on the Chally and found the bit about the F2 and F3 having different functions depending on whether you are in the TC or Gunners position. And then that opened up my eyes to all the other commands available like swinging the gun round. It's amazing what you learn if yo read the instructions, lol. Anyway, on the map I created with 10 static BMPS I could only kill about 2 or 3 before getting wiped out, but after practicing tonight with all the info I have from you guys and the wiki I managed to take them all out and only took 1 hit with no damage, so I am well happy now. Next I will have the BMPs moving, then move on to some MBTs. Then onto the training maps that are in those starter packs. Hopefully the new found skills will work great. One more question, as I haven't driven a real Chally, but what I would like to know is, in the real thing does the commander designate a target? For some reason I was under the impression if the commander is looking through his various scopes and spots a target he just pressed a button and the gun automatically swung round for the lay, then the gunner lased and blased? I take it this isn't the case? Currently what I am doing now is looking through the commanders peri and if a target is spotted I hold the P key to slew the gun, but sometimes the gunner doesn't say he has spotted the target, I press space for him to fire, but he doesn't so this forces me to take the gunners seat to take it out myself. While shooting is fun sometimes it can waste critical seconds. Also one last request, in a future update would it be possible to get some Chally commander tutorals. Thanks
  4. Nah I don't want easy stuff, or I would stay with WoT, lol. It'll just take some getting used to that's all. Just found it weird that you can tell the driver to go to a hull down position etc but the other commands didn't work. As I said once I get used to what works where I'll be fine. All I have done is create a mission with 10 trucks in it so I can practice moving around getting used to switching positions quickly or giving commands quickly. When I am ready I will put something n there that shoots back.
  5. Thanks for the info again guys, muchly appreciated, I should be on it again tonight so I will have a bash at all of them. I guess because I ride a lot from the observers position it would really be realistic if I could give commands from there. I did not know about the context menu for the icons at the bottom, maybe I should read the manual as well as do the tuts. I did know about the T and I commands but just didn't do anything while in the Chally.
  6. Ok I don't think I explained myself correctly so here is the scenario. I am trying to find the quickest way of getting the main gun locked onto a target. GUNNERS POS - This is easy, if I have spotted it I just shoot straight away, if the commander has spotted it he slews the gun in the right direction then I fire. COMMANDERS POSITION (PERISCOPE) - Again this is easy once I initiate override as the gun just follows where I am looking. COMMANDERS POSITION UNBUTTONED - This is where it gets tricky, when I roll I normally inhabit the Observer Position (F8) or the Commanders Position (F7) unbuttoned and in Bino view (N). So lets say the main gun is scanning to the front, and I spot an enemy tank trying to make a flank attack to my right I want the gunner to swing the gun as fast as possible to the target. I currently do one of two things; - B key to button up - Move mouse view to Periscope and click - Left Click to override and slew the gun to target or - Press F6 (Gunners Position) - Rotate the gun to target. Now in those split seconds the target might have spotted me already and took me out or between the time I have buttoned up or switched positions I might have lost the target. So basically is there a way I can tell the gunner there is a target so he can start rotating the turret WHILE I am buttoning up and doing the rest of the stuff. OR Instead of buttoning up I might want to just lower myself into the turret so I still have eyes on the target but still need to tell the gunner to rotate, in reality all crew members would be wearing a headset so it's just a matter of talking to them. Although as I have never driven a Chally I don't know what the exact ACTION procedure is. When I was a crew member of a Scimitar everything was manual so the commander just shouted at the gunner to rotate. All this was done at the same time as him ducking down into his hatch.
  7. I thought the up arrow slews the commander to the gun? Or is it just different for each vehicle? I know on the Chally 2 it definitely slews the commander to the gun, i need it the other way round. Cheers
  8. Another quick question, is there a quick method of making the gunner align the main gun with what the commander is seeing while in bino view? Similar to how you align the commanders view to the gun with the up arrow. I am scouting for the enemy as the commander in zoomed in (N), spot a contact, then I try to get into the gunners seat as quick as pos but find the gun is facing totally the wrong way, so I try to slew it and scan for the target but it keeps taking me out too fast. I try this both from the commanders position and gunners position.
  9. Thanks for the abundance of info. I haven't been on it in the last week due to other matters, however spent all Friday night and Saturday on it. I have visited that starter wiki and downloaded the Camp Hornfelt missions and also the Tanks Again mission. To be honest I found them a tad overwhelming. Move to do with the fact that it's taken me a while to remember all the keys, especially the commanders for telling the gunner what to fire at. Also, in real life you have multiple crew members spotting, so when I used to drive the old Scimitars it would have been the commander or gunner who in most cases spots a contact first, the gunner is then already slewing the gun round. So in game I start in the TC's position, sometimes with scope and sometimes without. Then once I find a contact I start panicking as to which position to settle in. I started out staying in the TC position but forgot how to assign targets, lol, yes ......... I know now, hold the friggin' P key or use the arrow keys to scan. But then I tried going into the gunners seat, but often I could not even see a target, so I tried moving but would get immobilised before I can re-position. Anyway, what I have decided to do is create some basic missions, one with static low threat targets just so I can practice manoeuvring onto enemy positions and actually spotting them and quickly changing positions for the contact. Then another mission with mid range threats the higher end threats. Then a couple of missions with moving threats. Not sure how that will go. I think ultimately being a wingman in a co-op mission might be the best bet.
  10. Thanks for the welcome everyone. Talking about getting my ass served in IA, it was literally straight after I did the Chally tuts, I wasn't expecting to kick or anything, I think really it just shows there is more to a mil sim than just moving around and using your LMB. I'm working through ALL the tuts from all vehicles so I have a good grasp of them all. I'll definitely look at the starter pack when I am ready for it, thanks for the link. As for units, again........ when I'm ready for it I will check out some of the units, don't really want to look a twat on the first outing, lol. A couple of questions of the VU's though. As I am based in the UK my timings will be GMT so i was looking at maybe UK Armour, Kanium EU or maybe Dogs of War for the co-op, these seem more viable timewise. Are UK Armour and Kanium the same group by any chance? The wording seems / description seems similar to a certain extent? Anyway, can't wait to get online and have a few.
  11. Hi all, I just thought I would pop on and introduce myself. I'm Mick from the UK and I just purchased SB Pro PE 4 about 4 days ago. I'm 44, I had the fortune of serving with HM Forces as a reservist in the 7 Royal Anglian for a couple of years, then served in the armoured corps (medium recce), albeit only for just over 3 years, I joined too late :(, so I was too set in my ways for them to break and mould me, lol. I'm still on the reserves list for another 4 years, but not in any active way. Other than that I'm just a regular Joe doing a regular job. Hobbies are gaming and photography. I would class myself as a semi hardcore gamer, as in; I game a lot but not seriously competetive. I go by the name T9FURY, everyone just calls me T9 or FURY. I'm a bit of an all rounder when it comes to games, Sim City, Tropico, Company of Heroes, Assault Squad, World of Tanks, Warthunder, blah blah. Although I do love my World of Tanks and similar games they just lack the realism and cooperation I am after. I did spot SB Pro a few months back, but thought it was a gamble for the price tag. Anyway, after watching a few vids on how some of you guys play I thought I would take the plunge. Anyway, enough putting everyone to sleep, I've been going through all the tutorials, well .......... the challi 2 ones and the Abrams and thought I would have a bash at the Challenger instant action mission, gees I got mashed up big time, I thought I am going to be totally crap at this. When I looked at the briefing again it says you are not expected to survive. So my question is, how far do you guys get in this mission? I mean I was dying after killing a couple of tanks, first I was just sitting there just to familiarize myself with everything, then I was trying tactical as in finding hull down positions, but all I get is a face full of shells. So am I doing something wrong or is it just designed to be unwinnable? Cheers T9
