  1. Greetings all, Ref. the requirement for being on-line to play a game. This is normally a function of checking the "Licience Key" before allowing you to play either multiplayer or single player against the computer. "Company of Hero's -Opposing Fronts" has the same requirement, you must log in and have the version and game verified first before being allowed to select single player. A copy protection feature. One good feature is after the log on it will tell you immeditially if there is an update avail. and select it for download. You can't play until you have the latest version. All for now ..... 9erRed
  2. Greetings, Ref. most all your games freezing up at some time during play. Has it occured that you should check the Tempature of your system while your running the games? Over heating the cpu or cooking the Ram up will cause a freeze but normally a system freezing on a regular basis may be caused by not having enough availiable power. Check your case power supply to find out if it's large enough to handle all the components that your running. Unless you've upgraded the power supply, most case systems are sold with only enough power to run 1 hard drive ,one dvd or cd drive, one mid to low end vid card, the min. Ram installed, etc. etc. The new vid cards now require a lot more power (100watts or more) than just last years cards, the motherboards are running 140 watts for most of their stuff, the Ram wants 15watts per stick, the hard drives and disk players can use 60 to 80 watts, sound cards gobble up another 75watts, and we are not even looking at how many fans your running. Long story ..short .... you may need a 600 watt PS just to stay under the required feed. If you have a program that will watch the systems heat while your testing the different programs you should. Also find a list of component power consumption rates and run it down your system to see if your on the border during normal use and under while at peak use. Just some suggestions, as I also had some general system freezing problems a few years ago and isolated it to a weak or nearly bad power supply. Use what you need ..... later 9erRed

  4. Greetings all, Here's the line drawing that matches the turret layout. The line layout is for the "E3" version but the turret matchs for the earlier version. 9erRed t29e3br7.bmp
  5. Greetings, Start with a tank in the Leopard family, as the user interface is somewhat easier to manage and some actions are completed automatically for you. Are you using a joystick or mouse to control the gunnery aspects? Have the F8 view (outside) as your primary location ...to start, check with the map often (F5) for routing and any enemy contacts that are dectected before they open fire on something. Know the key sets to switch between the outside view and the gunners primary sight (F8 to F6). Know the keys for moving to the commanders location (F7) from that position you have various other "views" you can switch to, 1.seated- up, down. 2.episcopes or armoured view ports around the copola. 3. Peri sight (very useful for selecting targets and also navigating) 4. Overview of the Gunners sight (useful for seeing what the gunner is looking at and overriding him to either move the gunner onto a new target or assuming control of the gun and firing yourself) 5. The gunners primary sight (there are other sights but stay in the primary sight for now) -find the tgt, laze, track if nessary and fire, observe the target for effect or the commander may tell you to "re-engage". Remember if there are more than one target to select the "most dangerious one first" normally the tank that is facing you or firing at you. Know how to laze a target and track it (selecting the ammo can only be done from the commanders position) Also know how to set the rebomb [load ready rack or transfer ammo to usable location]for the vehicle. (from top menu or from icon at bottom right)-- reverse out of line of fire contact during this order or it may be you last. (gun moves over side or back deck to access ammo storage areas) Only stay in a firing position for a few rounds them MOVE as the enemy will be working on your final range and will probably be calling in "arty" on your location (standard time to first arty round impact may be 2 mins or less) Study the map and ground you will be moving over or through and select as tactical a move as allows for your mission and unit size. Keep in mind where the enemy may be located (or where you would setup if you were the enemy) in relation to your movement route. Advance cautiously but be bold. use your other unit elements to assist your moves (lower right selection icons and select "advance to" and set the location with your mouse in the current outside view.) Try some of that and post you progress, remember don't be jumping around through the units vehicles stay in the element command vehicle and "supervise" from there. Later ..... 9erRed
  6. Greeting all, Idea list: Option to "repair" systems in the order YOU need them repaired. (with a repair unit nearby) Maybe a checklist drop down to select the "first" item to repair, not necessarily the most important. Not just a default repair as... 9erRed
  7. Greetings all, Ref the road: Normally called "road crest" and refered to as "near or far" ie: "Driver, 1 o'clock far road crest, left side - Identified?" Once identified by the driver the commander will issue orders to the driver on what action to take if they come under fire while on the way to the next position. All for now ..... 9erRed

  9. Greetings all, Just finished reading some info about the new or next generation of tires. Army is testing them now and they want a workable design for the Humvees as soon as possible. Here's a link to the article that also has a short slideshow. Who would have thought that those little bee's building that precise pattern of six-sided cells arranged like a honeycomb would be so strong on a large scale! I still find it odd that when science "discovers" a new stronger way to build something (by coping Nature) they get all exicited. anyway here's the link... http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=tires-that-dont-need-air Later ..... 9erRed
  10. Also see http://www.forsvarskanalen.dk/fmc.aspx?bhcp=1 click on the bottom right area "FRIGORELSE" For an assult by CV90's and Leo's, included is air and arty assets. The whole attack is about 20mins. 9erRed
  11. Greetings all, Ref the "set area" to change tracks. If the tracks were just hauled off and replaced with new and the "track replacement team" and their "multipule Trucks loaded with complete FULL tracks" could keep up with the advance, (only able to hold one set [both sides] of tracks per truck) and there was flat level ground to do this "roll on" of the new tracks. The team could set up the roll on tracks as the disabled vehicle was on the way to there location. Now that's not taking into account if there has been any damage to the road wheels or shocks during the transport to the new tracks. And just what caused the track or tracks to become damaged in the first place. If you rolled off a set of tracks and rolled on the new ones without any problems, break the connecting pins and pull out the top side of the tracks then drage the vehicle off those tracks and roll onto the new set, each side should take about 30mins or less. (all the parts and manpower availiable.) If your just stopping to replace a broken pin or connector and you have another vehicle to drag the track back to your vehicle (you brake the track it stays where it was last laied down! you keep rolling!) that will take sometimes longer, 40mins to an hour or longer. (again everyone helping and all your track kit parts availiable) Ok back to the question, it would not be combat feasiable or cost efficient to "deploy" a track replacement echelon to do just that task. Track maintience is normally the vehicle crews responsibility, that's why they carry short sections of replacement track on and around the tank. Each vehicle has all the tools (in their track kit) to replace sections of their own track. If your left alone to "put it back on" and you were able to stop close to the damaged track then you'd hook the tow cable on the track the use the sproket to "pull" it back into place, again taking about 30 to 40mins or longer as "someone has to watch for the Enemy" and can't help with the work. Last question; normally the "cables" are only used to move the disabled vehicle to a hard surface at which time the M88 should exchange the cables for a "Towing Y Bar" which places the towed vehicle at about 6 feet from the M88. If you can get a tree between you and the towed vehicle your a better driver than me! (the towing cable are normally only used to "extract" the vehicle then the "hard" hitch is attached.) Use what you need ..... hope some of that helps ..... 9erRed
  12. Greetings all, With reference to repair times, Is there a location with a list of every component repair time? And are any of the repair times effected by still being in contact (not under fire) with the Enemy. Or having Friendly elements nearby? Having a printed list of the "time to repair" various components would allow the company/battalion commanders to make an immediate choice of send repair or request a replacement element, and when they could expect to have that element "returned" to their command. With the "New" M88's, and there ability to "Tow" a unit to a safe location to start repairs, is the repair action started after the M88 "unhooks" the damaged element? Will the combination of an M88 and the Repair m113 speed up the repairs? Should all mission Commanders now "START" (if they haven't already) to plan follow-on "Echelons" to provide repair and crew replacement functions? (here come the A1 and A2 Commanders positions) Mission designers may want to consider grouping all the "support" elements into one or two "Echelons" of the same callsign and apointing an "XO" unit for their commands. (easier to jump into the support commanders position at the assembly area) Inquiring minds want to know, ..... later ..... 9erRed
  13. Greetings, A similar rubber design is still being used now. It's used by the tank troop 2Ic's to review, in field, tank drills. They are nearly indistructable, small and work well for practicing troop tank drills before you execute the practiced movements with the real vehicles. They also use them on the indoor tank/AFV mini ranges with wires attached to allow for "movers" for gunnery pratice. There's a lazer attachment mounted on the turrets that's linked to the sights and barrel and "fires" a Lazer beam at the "target". (Rubber does not reflect lazer light very well) Later ..... 9erRed
  14. Greetings, The only concern when adding additional RAM is to keep the same "speed" of RAM sticks. By putting a slower set of "sticks" in, it will set the upper limit of all the RAM at the lowest sticks speed to "keep them all running at the same speed" Your Ram is Main Memory • Supports 4 unbuffered DIMM of 1.8 Volt DDR2 SDRAM • Supports up to 8GB memory size • Support Dual Channel DDR2 667/800/1066MHz and up (Intel P35 chipset supports up to DDR2-800 officially. For DDR2 800+, manually BIOS adjustment is needed) Your running 800Mhz sticks now so keep that speed RAM. Here's their home page with your Motherboard specs and drivers. http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1212 Notes: - In Dual-Channel mode, make sure that you install memory modules of the same type and density in different channel DIMM slots. - To enable successful system boot-up, always insert the memory modules into the DIMM1 first. Single-Channel: All DIMMs in GREEN Dual-Channel: Channel A in GREEN; Channel B in ORANGE Dual-Channel mode Population Rule; In Dual-Channel mode, the memory modules can transmit and receive data with two data bus lines simultaneously. Enabling Dual-Channel mode can enhance the system performance. Please refer to the following illustrations for population rules under Dual-Channel mode. (See attachment) See the attachment for where to install the various RAM sticks. All for now ..... 9erRed
  15. Greetings, For the M88 to "hook up" insure that you select the option from the vehicle icon. (small hull in lower right corner, with right click) Then with the red cross now visiable, hold it over the unit you wish to "tow" and left click. If you back up to the unit you want to Hook up to it's easer to drive away, the "tow cable" is not yet visiable (maybe in the next upgrade). The distance from the towed vehicle is about 50ft. so keep that in mind when moving around, you'll also notice that your speed is reduced. To unlatch the towed unit, go to the "hull" icon again and select the "unlatch/unhook" option. all for now, later ..... 9erRed
  16. Greetings, Look here for some avail. PCI only cards, The selection on the left will give you the 4 options for the amount of onboard RAM then you can look at the avail. cards (with spec's) From there you can get a better idea of what you want to run, most have a customer response near the bottom (see what others think of what they bought). Lots of possibilities avail. I'd look at the onboard 256Mb cards only, although a 128Mb version may be enough. (probably not though) http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=319 Disclamer: I'm not affiliated with "TigerDirect" in any way. The prices are in Canadian Dollars. 17. Greetings all, As a suggestion for follow on missions, why not just bring in a company or two of T-72's. Let those that want to "use" them "have at it" and give the Leo's to players that really need them. That way we'll see if there's any real difference in the effect of having the "actual" thing in play. Maybe have the T-72's as a reinforcing element? Trigger for the T-72 units? I'm sure you'll find a way. Later ..... 9erRed
  18. Greetings all, Just a single link from the M113 series track weighs in at around 50lbs. (depending on the model style) And not including the two end connectors. The Leopard single link weighs in around 100lbs. (sometimes a little less, sometimes more) Different track designs from numerious manufacturers are substituting very tough plastics to try to lighten the overall weight. SO... You will not be throwing these tank links more than a few feet! [not counting obstructions or material buildup, the end connector bolts and the track tension are the "keys" to never rolling a track off] Later ..... 9erRed

Greetings Richard, Be a little careful with your new game, the company that produces that title uses an anti-pirate program that is auto installed without your knowledge. This program may and in most cases will disable your dvd and cd burners and sometimes will damage them. This installed program is called "starforce", and is in extreme controversy about it's automatic installiation use. (without the game owners permission or knowledge) Later ..... 9erRed
  21. Greetings, Another note for the Opfor non-crewable vehicles. If your riding along with one of them in the outside view and you spot an enemy element that the Ai has not yet seen, you can "bring it to their attention" by using the "Shift + laze" key combination while in the maginified view. This brings up a small red star object in your center view that you move onto the "yet unseen enemy", hold on the vehicle to "ID" it and the Opfor should direct their attention to the indicated target and take action. Now this works most of the time but if there's some obsticals in the way (woods, bushes, buildings) the AI might not "see" the indicated target right away. Controlling the Opfor elements takes some knowledge of the "vehicle formation" keys and using the terrain correctly. Switching between the map to set route paths and "tactics" at various points and checking the ground from the vehicles themselves must become a standard SOP for the "Opfor" element commander. Normally only about a Company size unit can be controlled at a time by each Opfor commander, any more and things get out of hand rather quickly. (although with practice multipule companies can be "fought" at the same time.) Later ..... 9erRed

  23. Greetings, I seem to remember something about the "Throttle" control using the same pin ports for the "X" "Y" . Also the joystick has non-contact technology on X and Y axes or "hall effect" sensors, so these may again be located on different pin outs? The X and Y must be mapped correctly in the Steel Beasts config. (button/control Map) screen also. I'd look there first to see what is currently being "seen" for the X/Y. Does the mouse work to control the turret? Are you in the gunners position when testing the turret, also check from the commanders override sight position. Do the L and R arrow keys work for the turret? Later ..... 9erRed
  24. Greetings, To bmzsscully, with just the Ram increase have you seen a greater difference in applications opening and running? I know I did, as any image I opened was drawn very fast (click and its there) and XP is a hog for wanting more resources to run "stuff". Any way, your welcome. That's what we do here. To Jlh, Ref the 8800GT cards. Compare the spec's carefully as some of the same named cards have different amounts of stream processors. The cards you want will be the ones with 128, allowing for faster transfer of info. EVGA has a very good card, but it's priced at around $400 Cdn. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3514991&CatId=1826 And this card has a memory bandwidth of 62.1 GB/sec, very fast! This card is a PCI-E card and will require a power supply of at least 550-600 watts (the cards specs call for 450watts) if your running numerious Hd's and fans as well as avail. upgrading of additional devices in the future. Here's a link for a 600watt at around $55 Cdn. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2974503&CatId=1483 Later ..... 9erRed
  25. Greetings, Check that the "spider" (reflecting small mirror) is exactly centered on the main reflector mirror. Do this by looking through the eye piece hole (without the eye piece installed). When you look through the eyepiece hole you should be able to see the reflection of the (open) top end of the telescope tube in the diagonal mirror. If the "spider" mirror is not aligned perfectly your final viewing image will be distorted or fuzzy and may cause the problem you have. Your normal viewed image should be of a complete object, you will not see the "spider" mirror in the image. Also check that the main objective mirror has not moved, and if there are "adjusting" screws at the bottom of the body "DON'T" tighten them if they appear loose. These screws set the focusing angle and are used to set the final align the objective mirror. If your having problems with help at the astro sights, first DON'T tell them that you "screwed with" the scope. I'd suggest that you ask them if this is "normal" for this type of scope. Remember, you have a lower end of the "Dobsonian" style telescopes so they may be some "resistance" at helping you. You can also check at some Dobsonian telescope home build sites on the web, they have some helpful hints and resources. Here's some sites with some helpful info: http://web.telia.com/~u41105032/myths/myths.htm http://www.optcorp.com/product.aspx?pid=3049 Use what you need ..... Later ..... 9erRed
