  1. Well the first thing to remember is that usually there are two levels of nets: The higher BG net and The lower Sqn / Coy internal net. Most of those call signs you've listed above are in the lower net. In the old days the BG net would be something like: 0 = BG HQ 1 = A Sqn / Coy 2 = B Sqn / Coy etc. With key people having personal callsigns 9 = CO 19 = OC A Sqn etc. So "1 this is 0" is just the BG HQ talking to A Sqn SHQ "19 this is 9" is a person to person call where the CO as an individual wishes to talk to the OC as an individual These days with daily changing callsigns and random allocations you need to look up a table to figure out who has what call sign on what day. Depends. If the infantry is just attached for a particular task (i.e. here today, gone tomorrow) and if they are "unique" (i.e. you don't have A Sqn and A Coy in the same BG) then they'll probably not use the prefix. If there is duplication then they'd probably still use them. Do you have a timeframe for getting this out?
  2. Who? http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbforums/showthread.php?t=16238 0830 GMT on Thursday, March 14. Due to recent changes to Daylight Saving Time in some parts of Australia (sanity to prevail again in early April) and New Zealand this equates to: 0830 in London 1630 in Perth 1800 in Darwin 1830 EST in Brisbane 1900 in Adelaide 1930 EDT in Sydney and 2130 NZDT in Auckland http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20130314T0830 Again a flexible package, depending on attendance figures to be confirmed by the "48 hours to go" email. But likely topic: - Commencing the built in Fulda Campaign If you are around, you are welcome to pop in.
  3. And so we did. Nine hearty souls turned up and after settling on the unit "colour patch" (displayed above) moved on to play Zipuli's "Tank Company in Attack" equipped with M1A1 (HA) and NZLAV. Kept losses under 50%, held the objective and "Churchill" hill, and had to manually pull the trigger to end the game but still lost? Anyway next week most likely off to a little known piece of dirt known as the "Fulda Gap" (some of you may have heard of it).
  4. I think I've persuaded a Mech Inf mate of mine to turn up for this. He may just stick with me or perhaps he can grab one of the two vehicle Bradley patrols currently remaining?
  5. Client 3.0.10 now available. Seems to run with the SB server (apart from the "new server version available" message).

But likely topics: Some discussion re Michael's "Campaign" (linked scenarios) idea based on the large map work around. As for the mission itself some options: 1. The Pucka mission we have done the last couple of weeks (its scalable if people suddenly can't make it). 2. Maybe the battle run scenario (2 tanks up, each manned with a commander and gunner) with a Mech PL following. 3. Michael's breaching scenario (with Red arty turned down a bit). 4. Convoy escort (no tanks so maybe not what the new guys have done tutorials on)? 5. Recce Sqn advance to contact (ASLAV, M113) 6. BG advance behind Recce Sqn (ASLAV, M113 and M1) 7. Something someone else brings along? If you are around, you are welcome to pop in.
  7. But then you are off down the "Game" Vs "Sim" slope. Certainly this doesn't simulate a paper map for a training audience and most BMSs that I've used have this information displayed in the margin around the map. Perhaps an optional feature that gamers could turn "on", but would remain "off" for the Sim type users?
  8. I think also the issue of numbering the contours was covered recently (in the “wish list” thread perhaps) elsewhere. IIRC the basic issue was that numbering the contours became problematic when used in conjunction with the ability to both change the contour interval displayed and the zoom function. So if you picked a small interval and then zoomed “out” to see all / large chunks of the map at once the numbers would add to the underlying clutter and you may not be able to “see” the terrain itself. In addition, there is also the issue of which contours are to be numbered (every 20m, every 10m, every 5m, ..., set it to equal the interval chosen for display [i.e. every contour is numbered]?) and who makes that decision - scenario designer choice, player choice or global constant determined by eSim? If the “glance to the right” technique doesn’t work for you, another option is to spend a couple of minutes and record the spot heights of the larger pieces of terrain by putting their height as text on the map. You then end up with a bunch of numbers scattered around the map recording the heights of pieces of terrain of interest to you and you don’t need to “glance to the right”, because you already have done so as part of the recording and marking process.
  9. I think you’ll find the French already think of it as a “western“ tank.
  10. Well I don’t know if the AI will change but they have flagged that engagement ranges will improve (subject to scenario visibility settings).
  11. Perhaps only a minor issue but any chance of telling us where line INDIAN is and OBJ DRABERT too?
  12. Well actually they did do a good job of preparing me for being taught by Jesuits as a boarder in High School.
  13. Ah well I "learned" to shoot right handed with an SLR as shooting left handed meant you had 7.62mm cartridge case indentations in your cheek and that got very "old" very fast. I had similar fun with nuns tying my left hand behind my back and trying to force me to write right handed though. Then we "progressed" to modified cursive with an ink pen which meant that I either took ten minutes per word or was much faster but smudged everything as the base of my left hand moved across the still wet letters.
  14. Well it should given the rifle its based on. Just swap the ejection port cover that is currently blanking off the left hand side to the right, adjust the bolt and swap the cocking handle over.
  15. Well the M113AS4 is playable.
  16. Well if its not actually full of water (hence the earlier comment about bilge pumps) it may well still be recoverable. Depends on how deep the water is and where the water stops and the mud/silt/bog starts.
  17. Might help if the bilge pumps were on.
  18. Perhaps, but I wasn't the film's armourer.
  19. Well of course if you don't want to "walk": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9ggv4I4q6g&feature=share&list=UU2YyQXALvVxe1ZzpAEFi8rQ This system will drive you where you need to go autonomously.
  20. Are we having orders / planning prior or just "she'll be right on the night" planning just before we launch?
  21. Hi and welcome, This isn't quite the right place (this is for for Technical support - software wont run type stuff). May I suggest that you look at a couple of the "Primers" that I wrote for this. They cover this and other topics and can be found here: http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbforums/showthread.php?t=16426 or in the "Downloads" section.
  22. Do the two entries "graphics memory" and "video memory" mean the machine (I guess a laptop) has either: 1. A 256 Mb dedicated graphics card and 2. Access to some sort of "shared" RAM / VRAM setup (to help with power conservation or something)? But I suspect is unable to use both at once? I think a 256 Mb card might find it a bit of a challenge to run, unless you set all the graphic type settings to "low". Note the minimum system requirements from the home page: IBM compatible PC with the following minimum configuration: •Pentium4 2.5GHz processor or equivalent •1.5GB RAM •256MB NVIDIA GeForce 5 Series / ATI Radeon 9600 (DirectX 9 compatible) •Windows 7 / Vista / XP / 2000 with DirectX 9.0C •3GB free hard drive space •1 USB port for dongle •Broadband internet connection for online multiplayer •DVD Drive, Sound Card, Mouse and Keyboard
  23. Yes you can stay on say 2.654 and then in 3 years say jump to 2.9xx (skipping 2.7XX, 2.8xx, etc.) [entirely a guess on my part as to future version numbers] and pay for the one upgrade If you leave it that long though you may need to get firmware updates for dongles and a bunch of other stuff ($0 but more mucking around) as well as the new license.
