  1. I am trying to make it in for this one! Orange me as you wish =)
  2. Hello! Just uploaded a new map: Rovajärvi Finland The biggest military training area in Finland, up in the north. To get the idea of how it's like there, here's some images and videos from an exercise in 2013, where two battalion (+) battlegroups fought against each other in the unforgiving terrain: http://www.puolustusvoimat.fi/wcm/Erikoissivustot/Trombi13/Suomeksi/Kuvagalleria/ Now you have enough terrain to roam around, but watch out for the reindeer! They will not give ground!

Welcome to Rovajarvi training area, Finland. It's one of the biggest training grounds in Europe, located in the northern third of Finland between towns of Rovaniemi and Kemijarvi. Here the Finnish Defence Forces train especially in the use of artillery and anti-tank weapon systems, but from time to time the Army uses the area for large scale maneuvers, like the "Trombi" ("Tornado") exercise in 2013 between two battalion battlegroups along with all the supporting arms. The terrain is just as difficult as the climate: During mid summer the sun does not go down at all and during the heart of winter the soldiers cope with endless darkness, frost and deep snow. Whatever the time of year, the flocks of reindeer get in your way and these animals are stubborn enough to stop an advancing mechanized battalion on their tracks, not giving way, and sometimes running straight into artillery splash zone when the grenades are already in the air... Reindeer meat anyone? Truly a place to take the military equipment to their limits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvmBuk39e9k&list=UUM8qGnJrcCGQXCZuGenvrOQ (mechanized units in action during "Trombi 2013") It's recommended to use the Suomussalmi -map themes, that come with the installer, with this one.
  4. Hey, any of you guys tried out wether AI uses on-map artillery other than SPA (2S1, 2S3, M109) yet? Last version I remember had AI never use any mortars or rockets... Still the case?
  5. 1:30 - 2:50 there's some live firing
  6. Scoring may look wierd if you lose due to casualties... Looking into it.
  7. First scenario uploaded: Time to try your T-72 skills against Strv 122s! It's doable, but not easy. The scenario is called "Niinisalo - The Underdogs" and is good for single player, but to get the most out of it, try multiplayer COOP! AARs and feedback appreciated

Niinisalo, Finland, 1997. Fight a Swedish or Norwegian mechanized company, carrying the latest western equipment, with your T-72 company. Can the underdogs prevail against all odds? Good for single player and multiplayer COOP. Version 1.1: - Updated the map to latest version - Added an alternative adversary: A Norwegian company, with Leo 1A5 and M113 equipment. This one is a lot easier, but don't get roostery!
  9. First try... Those Strvs are tough! Managed to kill the CVs mostly, and to wound one tank, but it is truly challenging even against the AI! By the way, the AI will have 4 plans in this scenario, and it may even adapt to blue side actions if possible =)
  10. Hello! I uploaded a new map of Niinisalo training area, Finland some time ago. Get the map here: http://www.steelbeasts.com/Downloads/p13_sectionid/253/p13_fileid/2598 Soon I will post a few platoon/company size single player/multiplayer COOP scenarios based on the said map! Here's a small peek at what's coming... First one is maybe not for a rookie, but for those who love challenge. It takes place in 1997, between Finns and Swedes: "During the late 1990s the Swedes fielded impressive new equipment for their mechanized forces: The Strv 122 and Strf 90. At the same time Finnish armoured units relied on Russian designs: T-55M, T-72M1, BMP-1 and BMP-2, bought from Soviet Union, later Russia and Germany (the armour surplus of DDR). During the day Finnish army had more armour than ever before and were able to field two fully mechanized Armour Brigades. The T-72 was held in high regard, until everyone saw on TV what the coalition forces did to Iraqi army with similar equipment. A hot debate over the quality and potential of the Russian equipment followed. But Finnish tankers believed that tactics and skill would rule over technical superiority... In this scenario a Swedish mechanized company with the latest equipment is taking part in an exercise at Niinisalo's Pohjankangas area. A Finnish tank company is heading to meet them and to stop their attack. Would "the underdogs" manage to get the upper hand when fighting the latest the world of armour has to offer? The Swedes have superiority in all technical areas against your tanks: - Thermal sights, capable of seeing through smoke - Hunter-Killer capability - State of the art fire-control systems with capability to fire accurately on the move - Ammunition that can penetrate your tanks from all sides and engagement ranges... even the IFVs can penetrate your armour from sides! - Better armour protection (theoretical immunity against your ammunition from the front sector?) - Better mobility (forwards AND backwards!) Your only upside is that your tanks are smaller... But don't fall into despair! The balance can be leveled by cunning use of terrain, tactics and evil state of mind from your side!"

Welcome to Niinisalo! The 28x48 km area in this map covers the training grounds, used commonly by Finnish mechanized forces in maneuver and live fire exercises. The Pohjankangas -area north of Niinisalo Garrison provides a long open stretch of terrain that has subtle height variations, providing good hunting grounds for tanks, while the wooded areas surrounding allow mechanized infantry to fight dismounted. Height and Terrain maps included. You can use Kouvostoliitto themes with this map. Version 1.1 has some minor details added to Pohjankangas, along with more realistic vegetation (less visibility outside the "desert").

    I'm back

Back at Finland and it seems the summer is here: Looking forward to Steel some Beast soon!
  15. Hmm... Or maybe eSim adds the barrel from Leopardo to the 2A5 model and call it 2A6? Pretty please
  16. In 2007 there were news that Finns bought DM53 rounds... So those and DM12(A3?) are in use along with older DM33 I guess... If they still exist.
  17. Must be pretty good batteries!
  18. Too short barrel man! Size matters Though armourwise the 2A5 is closer... no extra stuff on front hull or turret top. Maybe the 2A6 will be in the next upgrade The NL has a map screen thingy inside, the 2A5 does not have it seems. So it's 50-50 which one represents the 2A6 closer =)
  19. ...and it's official! Deal is for 100 tanks, spare parts to last 10 years (yeah, right), simulators, special tools and testing equipment. Total pricetag is 199,9 million € and the tanks are delivered between 2015 and 2019. And even better, the 2A4s will remain in use! FDF did not screw this one up! Looks like mr. Zipuli will remain employed for quite some time now.
  20. Wicked! Roundels on the turret sides like in 2A4... Maybe the register number stars with "Ps 274-XXX" as Leo 2A4 is "Ps 273-XXX"? They should be on the same spot in the hull =) PS. The deal was just agreed on, and 100 Leo 2A6s are bought and deliveries will take place 2015-2019 =)
  21. Anyone got the time to do a Finnish skin for the Leopardo 2E? The pattern and colours can be applied from my Finnish Leo 2A4 skin. I am currently very busy with other things! This would be the Leopard 2A6 Finland bought from the Netherlands! =)
  22. Yes! This is FinIrish Battalion, so the Irish are very, very close by
