  1. A lot could be said about the Stryker, but the tires do not appear to be a big problem. They have a run-flat capacity, and quite often after a mine/IED blast a Stryker can still extricate on its own power even after the loss of more than one of the wheels. But of course, in a combat zone the demand for replacement tires is very high and apparently it took the US Army a bit by surprise. (Kinda "d'oh!" if you asked me, but ... oh, well.)
  2. That's one of the problems. If the "demo" is a fully featured game of its own, a substantial number of people will play it instead of the program that it is supposed to promote. Demo software demands technical support. I rather give that to paying customers, given that even my day only has 24 hours. I only seemingly never sleep. Finally and above all, the software based 3D engine of SB1 was nearly obsolete when it was originally released in 2000. If a revived SB1 was promoted as the "demo" for SB Pro PE, a substantial fraction of people will get the false impression that the current engine still looks like 1997, so it will actively deter people from buying. Thanks, but no thanks. Not gonna happen.

...what are they supposed to do?
  4. I can't see what you mean. The photo is all blurred.
  5. Sure is. That's why the artists felt that it was necessary.
  6. Does it crash, no matter how long you run the exercise before ending it and attempting to save the AAR? Does it also crash in 2.711?
  7. Because the artists felt it was necessary.
  8. Well, try this link: http://www.eSimGames.com/Downloads.htm
  9. The point about PERSONAL messages is that they are not meant for the public. They are an optional service of the forum software. We can't shield you from opinions that you don't like, even if you find them hostile. Frankly (but that's just my personal opinion), if you deliberately stir the shit like you did in the other thread, you deserve to get a bit of the smell. If you have a beef with the foreign policy of a particular government, that's one thing. Statements like "[Group X] need better education" are inflammatory, and you know it. It's a sweeping statement which at its core is racist - condemnation of all members of an arbitrarily selected Group X. The same line of argumentation is made with statements like "You can't trust a Chinese", "All Arabs are mad, religious fanatics", "Germans are great engineers (and Nazis)". Whether good or bad, it's a sweeping generalization that reflects one's own ignorance and is guaranteed to provoke a negative response. Discussing a governments' foreign (or domestic) policy would still fall under the "No Politics" rule in this forum; that rule exists for reasons that your thread just demonstrated so well. If you don't like Personal Messages, switch them off. You know, it's an optional thing that can be set in your User Control Panel. Same with emails. If you do not wish to interact with others beyond the discussion board, that's where the control valve is that you must close. Forum administrators are not here to serve as intermediaries between members, but to enforce the forum rules. That still doesn't guarantee that people will shun you from multiplayer sessions if you provoke them in a way that you did (even if that doesn't lead to your immediate suspension or termination of your membership here), and we're not monitoring TeamSpeak channels either. If you have a problem with some, try to avoid them, try to avoid starting discussions with them. Trying to win arguments on the internet is a futile effort anyway. Even if one managed to silence the other side, one would still be considered a jerk, or a crank, or just an asshole. Learn from the Madagascar penguins: "Wave and smile!"
  10. Let's be honest - you don't need this site to find your daily dose of online porn.
  11. It would have broken apart under its own weight over the first bump in the terrain, and it couldn't have turned in any case (IF, and that's a big if, if you could have made it to move in the first place with the engine and gears technology of its time). Whoever designed it had no idea about the limitations of material strengths or the effect of track length to vehicle width ratios on maneuverability (around 1.7 is ideal, BTW). Suppose you could have made all this to work, the vehicle armor would have to be so thin that it would be practically non-existent. This thing is about as useful as the Czar tank, which is still at the top of the bizarro list.
  12. It may be the wrong version, and even if you find the right one and put it in the right place, you'll see the next error message popping up asking for a different file. Granted, there are dubious web sites offering all kinds of DLL files for download - but you just don't know who compiled these DLLs and if they have some "extra functionality" like installing malicious software on your PC while it also does what it is supposed to do. You can't be careful enough these days when selecting which software source to trust. Smartphone Apps may be more lucrative for skimming private data and life profiles from their users, but PCs aren't immune, and still a target for all kinds of attacks. The best way to install evil software is to let the user do it while he thinks that he installs something useful. Long story short: SB1 is obsolete. SB Pro PE does nearly everything that SB1 does, most of it much better, and then there's a ton of extra features that you'll love. If yfter all these years you're still playing the original Steel Beasts, that's proof enough that SB Pro PE was made for you. You'll love it. Try it out with our demo license program and then come back and tell me with a straight face that you don't want it.
  13. At least one of the firmware updates increased the longevity of the CM sticks. Firmware 1.08 and earlier (as shipped with SB Pro PE in 2006/2007) tended to fail more often than 1.10 and later. I can't say if other firmware versions had a similarly important effect, but since there is at least one example where a firmware update gave a tangible benefit to the end-user, my recommendation is to just do those upgrades once in a while. They only take a minute or two and you don't really have to do anything except to NOT switch off the computer and to NOT remove the stick during the procedure. As far as runtime changes are concerned, for example the latest PE 2.6 license required a runtime upgrade to version 4.20 or so. I wouldn't rule out that this may happen again. So my recommendation is to upgrade the firmware at least in preparation of a new release (if you are planning to buy it). I can't say if the CodeMeter runtime has additional benefits e.g. with respect to the longevity of the CM stick. Given the firmware example, I wouldn't rule it out. So, all in all my recommendation is to do both once a year.
  14. Depending on which version you have an upgrade may be all that is needed.
  15. It may not be necessary, but it doesn't hurt either. You shouldn't need to wait until explicitly told to do it. Actually, MY recommendation is to do a bit of preventive maintenance at least once in a year. Check http://codemeter.com/us/service/downloads.html for updates, and if there is a newer CM Runtime, uninstall the old one, install the new, and if prompted, reboot at the next opportunity. Then start the CodeMeter Control Center and update the CM stick's firmware. (If you never did this in your life and are reading this, you should definitely do it - now!). Simply click on the circular arrow while having the stick plugged in, and follow the on-screen instructions. Current firmware version is 2.0, by the way.
  16. Actually, I don't think so. The bars cut through the outer RPG shell as they are supposed to, thereby shortening the impact fuze (as they are supposed to). Of course the grenade doesn't disintegrate after that. The momentum of the grenade can't be magically eliminated, so there's still the residual kinetic energy that must be absorbed (by bending the cage bars). Well, that's the clinical description from the safety of a comfy office chair in a remote location. I'm well aware of that - and that the bars only work in a certain percentage of all impact cases, and I wouldn't like to take my chances. But the fate of that specific RPG was decided when the fuze did not hit the cage bars. By the time that it was only millimeters away from the hull, the grenade was already defused.

    Lost Dongle

You can order a new copy. I'm sorry to say it, but the fundamental problem is that a classic loss or theft cannot be verified. We re-place defective CodeMeter sticks that are being sent in - either free of charge, if the stick simply failed, or for a moderate fee for the material value of the stick plus shipping and handling if you can at least send us the itty bitty pieces that you could scoop up after accidentally smashing it with a sledge hammer (or something less violent but still destructive).
  18. Sounds like there is some additional input, e.g. like a game controller with a stuck button, gravity sensor, or something similar.
  19. Pretty much anything that Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea can supply.
  20. Well, that one is an X-Ray image which doesn't help much to determine what can be seen in the optical range.
  21. Actually, it depends. Hollywood prefers the slow burning fireballs because they last longer and therefore produce more spectacular scenes. On many videos you can see impact flashes that last several frames. Film and video is usually captured at no less than 25 frames per second and no more than 50 frames, that means between about .12 to .05 seconds. However, we also need to take into account aperture settings, sensitivity of the film material and/or electronic sensor inertia. At night one can see a lot more sparks flying than in daytime recordings, simply because cameramen tend to raise the sensitivity when its dark. Also, usually cameras are at substantial distances to the target/impact area. I remember a Mythbusters episode where they blew up an entire concrete-mixer truck in a quarry with actual C4 (and a lot of it). The thing simply disintegrated, and while there was a lot of smoke, the actual flash was very short. So, what you usually see in an impact is a lot of secondary material or an incendiary charge which MUST burn slower and longer in order to ignite secondary materials.
  22. Why? Some parts of the image ARE blurred from the movement of things. The impact looks more like a haze of fize rather than a gazillion of individual sparks, suggesting that the photo captured more than a millisecond of the explosion process. What I'm not seeing is a glowing straight streak of light that, I presume, the heat jet would emit. So my bet would be on a general HE/frag round.
  23. ...or Adolf Hitler, ordering a second MG to be placed on the Smolensk cemetery wall. Not only that he made that order from 700km away, no, it was passed on as a Führerbefehl. Pathetic.
