  1. I read some ware that he was initially skeptical of special forces But one of his staff was British general de la billiere a former SAS officer. Managed to convince him of there abilities
  2. Excellent mission. Excellent map For me the biggest threat came from the terrain. Looking forward to the next mission.
  3. Hi Daska. Soviet vu.Will be happy to meet you on the field of battle. When you get your unit up and running. PM me when your ready to roll. And good luck with the unit. Do you plan to stick with a particular set of vehicles or are you going to use the full SB Inventory.
  4. Hope you can make it. you will be more then welcome Gunslinger
  5. Well if the scorpion is doing its job. sneaking around the battlefield and reporting every thing it Sees he will warn the IFV. It will unload its troops and the sneaky crunchies will lie in wait And ambush you with AT Rockets. I think if i were in the real military.and in a combat. Situation even in the mighty Leo-2a5 my biggest concern would be ATGM teams And RPG type weapons. not other tanks
  6. WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, "SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS." THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL. I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE." ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT." Happy Christmas to all
  7. Agreed you can find some superb footage on youtube. Also i learned a long tine ago that the Discovery and history channels Tend to be shall we say a little enthusiastic with certain facts. But Some of there programs are very enjoyable greatest tank battles and dog fights come to Mind.i enjoy the veterans telling there experiences of combat.(least we forget) When i hear what many vets lived through. It helps put things in perspective. One vets story really comes to mind. It was his job to recover knocked out tanks They used shovels to remove the fallen from in side the turrets. I think its important that the youth of today. Who think there hard done by if they havant got the lasted phone See what real adversity is and what many have died to protect . freedom and if discovery and history Can get people to view such historic events a little artistic licence on there behalf is Ok by me.
  8. Ha. That still leaves the military channel. you-tube. Wikipedia. etc
  9. The Indian army training for a night battle in T-72's
  10. Well not till we get Illumination rounds any way.ha
  11. Just a reminder to all Soviet VU members. Mondays the 24/12/12 and 31/12/12 meetings are cancelled due to some dude dressed all in Red and driving a stealth Sleigh Dropping ordinance through peoples chimneys I have put the air defense units on alert and hopefully they will down him. LOL Happy Xmas to all. And the fight against capitalism will recommence on Monday the 07/01/13 20:00 GMT.
  12. Fortunately the issue of blue on blue was better addressed* In operation Iraqi freedom. But the reality is it will always be an issue. Even with so called smart weapons.
  13. fully exploit an emerging advantage. Maybe they did not really appreciate what a game changer thermal imagers were. Still thinking in terms of defending against night attacks that wouldn't come because the Russians couldn't see shit in darkness rather than trying to exploit the night for substantial counterattacks. ][/quote That's pretty much what i was thinking. but being a civilian wanted to get some more Information before i jumped to the Wrong conclusion. But just like the civilian world people who think out Side of the box in large bureaucratic Organisations do not always fare well and do not get promoted. I once viewed a documentary Where a British army general. staff officer. joined a warrior crew on exercise.he seemed Shocked at Some of the issues the Guys on the ground were experiencing.
  14. that's because i like to check my facts before i post If for some reason i don't check. I will edit the post.
  15. And i do appreciate yours and Gibsonm replys. Guess i will have to stop getting my information from the discovery and history channel. LOL By the way i always wondered what would it be like to have a copious dinner and then have To wear an NBC suite for a long period.ha
  16. True: but a lot of the weapons systems mentioned were available in the late eighties (height of the cold war) And proven in 1991 "Operation Desert Storm" also according to many historians 91 was the end of the cold war
  17. Interesting reply. I can appreciate the difficulties in a night attack. I have read some accounts of night battles going very wrong. But with modern technology such as TIS GPS satellites. vehicles recognition systems. I believe they were used extensively in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
  18. Tank driving school.(Romanian army) In english.
  19. To be more specific did NATO commanders (Cold War era) consider there clear advantage in NVG. and the introduction of Thermal viewers. As a way the negate the soviets Massive Advantage in tank numbers. and would this have involved a emphasis on night Fighting. I know all armies train to fight at night.and as already pointed out the are a large amounts of Illumination rounds out there and i am sure the soviets had a lot of them.but could they Illuminate a large front for a prolonged time ?. (also i wish we had illumination rounds in SB)
  20. If a CO.(real world) was in the fortunate position of being able to choose what time of day To lunch an assault. And his opfor had vastly inferior night vision equipment. Would this be a consideration in his planning as to what time to lunch his attack. One thing i have noticed when in co-op with military guys. Who have designed the scenario They tend to favour dawn attacks and deploying in low light for obvious reasons. I have only taken part in one multiplayer mission at night. and did find it disorientating I am assuming that would be the case in the real world. Even with the vast array of vehicle And personal night vision equipment. So do the advantages out way the disadvantage for the CO.
  21. As a good European. May suggest a compromise.
