Hi!

I have some questions about Battlesight Engagements:

1. When do you use this feature? The manual tells me that it's used when "It's urgent that the gunner fires quickly", but if he doesn't lase the target first, he is most likely to miss the target and then it would have been better to use a regular engagement, right???

2. Can someone please give me a description of how to properly perform a Battlesight Engagement.

Oh, there's a LOT to say about battlesight engagements, last but not least that the computer gunners in SB suck at it. ;)

However, with sabot ammunition loaded, it's hard to miss anything. In the M1 I change to the GAS when the TC orders a battlesight engagement. That way I can easily compensate for any superelevation (or, if the target is really close, just aim the lower edge of the target with the primary sight).

With the Leopard, as a gunner I first set the reticule adjustment to 1600m for sabot which gives the biggest range in which a first round hit on a stationary, tank sized target is still possible without major aiming point adjustments. This requires to aim low whenever a target is closer than 1000m, but it's a good point to start with.

As the TC of the M1 you may want to store a different engagement range than 1200m intot he ballistic computer memory. This is actually something really good about the M1: That the TC has one range value at his discretion that he can recall by shortcut (see page 58).

Needless to say that if HEAT has been loaded, a battlesight command is not necessarily the best way for a quick engagement, especially if you have stored 1600m and the target is at 800m.

As far as the procedure is concerned, in the M1 hit backspace, then override the gunner and turn the turret towards the target (you may want to check in the GPSE).

For the Leopard, if the target is (quasi)stationary and if the current range in the ballistic computer is appropriate, it's probably easier and quicker to line the peri sight on target, activate override and while the turret swings around, hold the trigger. As soon as the turret is in alignment with the peri sight, the computer will fire the gun. Doesn't get quicker than that. :D

I better practice those a little - 1st CAD is doing range shoots this week it's my turn to crew command...my goal is to be sufficiently on the ball that my gunner can't distinguish me from the computer.

Yeah, I better practice those quite a bit.
