View Full Version : How can I cancel fire order
I was TC and my gunner spotted some troops. I didn't see them because my platoon was driving through some scattered trees, but I assumed that they were pretty close and gave fire order. Now the gunner didn't shoot because enemy was too far for the coaxial. But now comes the problem. I knew that enemy had one more tank on a nearby hill so I switch back to main gun and prepare to blow up the poor T-80. But the gunner shouts "on the way!" as he tries to put some HEAT on the troops. I quickly override him as I only have few rounds left and the troops aren't really threatning me. As soon as I stop overriding, the gunner tries to shoot again. How can I prevent him doing so? I don't want to give "hold fire" order, because them my whole platoon would be on "hold fire".
One more question. In the same mission, the gunner spotted troops (maybe 2 guys who survived from a blown up BMP) at 4000 meters. They are on my left flank and I know that there is an enemy tank platoon straight ahead. The gunner aims at the troops, but I want him to look straight ahead so I tell him to scan front. After few seconds he swings the gun back on those troops. Can I somehow tell him to forget those guys, the real threat is over there.

Order Hold fire, then Fire at will. This will cancel the given fire order for your onboard gunner, but then let everybody lose again.

No, not really. Break visual contact, or repeat the order to turn the turret straight ahead until you made contact with the other threat. :(

Shit happens...
No crew is perfect in every way and sometimes their wires cross.
I'm not being flippant but ever hear of TC override? When I was a TC in the Army it was one of the things we trained to do - fire from the TC's position if necessary. If your gunner can't unfix his target fixation then take control and put him on target and let him fire (which can be done with a human gunner).
Unfortunately in SB the TC not being the sharpest tack in the box often fixates on some BS target and ignores the real threats. If you are in the gunner's seat sometimes pressing <T> will get the TC off your back. If you're the TC just press <shift-P> and fire the gun yourself.

Umm, this didn't work. I tried it in Blind Elephants mission. I gave fire order and then hold fire. But as soon as I give fire at will order the gunner opens fire.

... This is the best advise to "learn".. press the "T" key while your in the gunner position.. this will give you override control over the TC when you see a threat greater than troops.. this last for only 15 sec.. so just "learn" to press it until threat is destroyed..
Also: you might want to use the "hold-fire" command as your troops "scout" for enemy positions and you recieve their reports on map or you can jump into their position and "listen" and know if it's a tank or an apc.. and make the decision to pull them back as not to lose them, or if in good BP.. tell them to fire at will and lanuch a tow..
Lots of little things to remember.. but it all comes into play..
Good hunting.. Ls :)
