sb demo in windows xp

Does anyone here have the SB demo working in windows xp? I just downloaded it -- first, the setup.exe wouldn't even work. I had to re-install some files from the winXP cd and reboot (the reboot might have done it on its own -- there were no differences between file sizes between the old and new files), and then the setup.exe worked. But now, when I try to run the game, it just runs for a moment and then is done. (I see something flash on the taskbar) I've tried win98 compatibility mode, running in 640x480, disabling hardware acceleration on video/sound cards. Anyone have other suggestions? Thanks.

Do you have directx installed?

I do! It's the latest version -- whatever Windows Update gives you. (XP comes with directx too, doesn't it?)

try downloading the demo again, might be a corrupted file

I think I had the older version downloaded -- there are two demo versions listed on the official website.
