Joystick? Mouse? Other? Which do you prefer, and why?
Do you use different controls for different tanks?

Well I'd choose the joystick...
But I' dlike to have something more "original": something with 2 handles...on top of them the laserswitches(Laserwippen(in GE))...a small button for dyn. lead on the inner side...2 fire buttons...and rotateable around y AND x axis! anyone has a idea where to get it :P

Hey GRENNY,
Have you tried a flight yoke? Looks very similar. I don't think there would be palm switches but maybe other buttons could be mapped. Might work?

What if we use a racing wheel? (So long as it is Programable)
Use the Gas as The Foot Firing Pedal. The Brake is For Lasing. The Left Shift Paddles As TIS/Day Sight, the Right Magnify/Demagnify, The Key Buttons on the Steering Wheel can be used for Palm Switches or Dynamic Lead.

@Black-6: there we have the problem('cos that was my 1st idea too).
I couldn't find a flight-yoke in any shop(nor at ebay).
The answer allways was:"There is no demand for that, so we don't sell it."

WOOLFMAAANNN!!!
He is the expert on that particular matter, some time ago he posted a url to an online shop that sells the flight controller. He was also thinking on how to adapt it to work like a Richtgriff
Regarding the thread Joe mentions, i also recall it, but that forum is not more reachable for my puter.
Greetings
[edit] eeh Joe, welche wörter besteht die Abkürzung n.A. aus?[edit] Deutsch ist so schwierig, verdamnt!!

All I can say is that we're working on it, and making progress. It's too early to announce anything, though.

Is this it?
Don't have one myself. It's a discontinued item but still available in some stores.
What is it that you're making progress with Ssnake?

I guess Wolfman is now comisioned with some homework regarding a cadillacs set for pc use with our SB.

...
Well, I like the joystick (default settings) in that while in one hand (on the joystick) I can raise, lower, rotate the turret, lase, fire the gun, dump the lead, palm the turret (in leo) TC override the gunner in M1 and flip on and look thru bino's and by using the hat, switch views left, right, backwards... any and all, by just a flick of a finger or slight pressure on the stick, and use the other hand to drive the tank, turn the tank, get to the map, back to the gun, go virtual, open the TC hatch and look around and listen, change the ammo select, pop smoke, call artty, etc.. I like the advantage of the stick, even with the drawback that it is a flight stick, and is very senitive to imputs..

Greetings all,
Have seen a site that details how and what you need to construct your own set of controls ( caddilacs ). Which set of pentometers to purchase and how to set up the existing board within a joystick.
So now the problem arrises, how to get a body or case for the handles? If there is someone that has access to a vacuform unit and the real caddalics, a working start can be produced. At least the shapes will be avail. for future construction, copy right violation?? As long as the finished unit is not constructed the same?
The rocker switches and trigger buttons are easy, the levers may be a little harder?
Anyways, Wolfman I think was working on a prototype set but haven't heard anything in about a year or so. Last info was he was looking for a company to produce the unit ..cheaply.
What do the gentlemen at West Point use with there 1000 copies? The Sim Net has a unit that is functional and inquiring to the manufacturer of the component, they may have a lower quality of just cheaper version avail.? The Military uses the real thing, just strip the wires and connect the correct wires to the midi plug and your good to go. That option at $400 each is not what we want!
Well any other info might help. later ..... 9erRed

Howdy guys, looks like there is a lot of interest for the handles.
I have a CH flight yoke, it works very well, although y-axis adjustments are a bit weird (it doesn't tilt like the handles, instead moves forward/backward).
I also got one of those Atari yokes from ebay very cheap, it is a very well made unit, in terms of tolerances it is better than HOTAS Cougar. The problem is, I am missing a spring for it and don't know where to get a replacement. Also mounting and wiring the pots are a problem, I'd need help from somebody who knows how to set up an accuate system (last thing I need are spiking pots and the like).
And just to correct something, it wasn't me who was going to contact companies to produce a unit cheaply, it was Biss, and he dropped the idea due to other committments. Sean, Biss and I spoke about it, but nothing materialized. If anybody has experience with these things, let me know.

West Point doesn't use gunner handle replicas. They're interested primarily in the tactical training aspect. Gunnery training is left to the times when and IF the cadets go to the armor branch, and rightfully so.

You can find the workings and settings for most joystick items here

There are also some links to accessories and the springs your looking for. As well as the set ups for the pots.

I wasn't able to generate enough interest with manufacturers and Wolfie expressed some interest in the project, so I handed off my artwork and research to him. If Ssnake knows something, perhaps he would like to share his knowledge with the community?

Does anyone have a detailled picture of the original yoke used in either M1 or Leo ?
I have a few fairly detailed photos on my old PC, will be able to send them to you after the 12th.

I contacted CH via email and got no reply. Couldn't they at least send a "no" back? Now I don't think anyone even read it... ah the fun of dealing with big companies. :(

I don't have a yoke, but I do have a right cadillac handle I bought on eBay.
A used pink bathrobe, a rare MINT SNOWGLOBE, a Smurf TV tray... that I bought on eBay.
Speaking of eBay, I qualify for Powerseller status this month! Woohoo!

I just got a Saitek X45 joystick & throttle combo. It works very nicely for SB. :D The stick has a smooth and predictable action. I have programmed 45 of the SB command keys into the software, and there is also a AUX slider that funtions as "shift" when engaged. I don't have to touch the keyboard unless I am setting a trigger. There is a built in mouse, too, but I used it as a fourth hat switch because it's a bit clumsy for setting routes and such on the map screen. I prefer my Logitech Marble Mouse for that work - I need all the help I can get in that area.
It also works quite nicely for MS Flight Sim 2002 and Janes Longow 2.

I could get the original T-72 gunn controls adapted for the PC, but they wanted 2500 bucks for it... :(
