View Full Version : Extreme-slope physics

I was wondering about this a few days ago, and was reminded of it by the wicked geometry of the grand-canyon terrain:

What happens if you drive an SB2 tank across an ever-steepening slope (following a contour line, I mean)?

Will it stick perfectly like in SB1? Will it throw or break a track? Can it roll over? (If it does roll, is that automatic death, or if it's lucky enough to land on its tracks might it carry on with only its antennae, GPS and commander crushed?)

Or will the tank just stop and will not advance anymore?

But what happens if the tank crosses an ever-SINKING slope.(Like off a cliff) Will it stick to the wall or do a 70ton Impression of a Swan Dive, followed by a Crater?

Please don't say that the Tank will stop and refuse to jump.

What if the tank crosses a more than a 30 degree slope? Will it Turn over like a Turtle, unable to right itself?

I've never tried the Hummer jump scenario, but apparently the SB1 engine will let a vehicle go airborne if it goes off a sufficiently sharp drop.

What made me think of it was the northeast corner of the BattleDogs map, where there's a really steep slope down to the river. In SB1 it's a good sniping position, though in real life you'd certainly slide down the bank and even if you didn't the trunnion tilt would be so extreme you'd have a hard time hitting anything.

Hehe......reminds me of the fun I had driving tanks 120M.P.H. down mountains in OFP.

Does the M1 have an overddrive? (I.E. disengage transmission so it can travel faster than the engine would allow.)

Its funny to blow off with OFP... but i never survive to the crash...

I guess we should keep that a secret so you can find out for yourself.

Speaking of roll over angles, did you see that the Stryker bn had 3 KIA when their vehicles rolled off an embankment?

Gee, can't you just feel the love for the Stryker around here?

Just so long as I get to make Hummer Jump 2.0 for SB2, I will be happy.

we can make a series of M1/Leo jump movies like the kids did for Halo!!!

Maybe, one day, you will forget to remain silent, and reveal to all the SB2 release date...

when it's done, Nils will publish a 99.9999% certain release date.

with a small team, a development cycle can be horribly unpredictable.
