View Full Version : Some questions about SB2, before going to bed...

Well.. my questions:
First, will there be a real time's management in SB2? what I want to say is that for some long mission, when the sun is setting for exemple, does it sets the whole mission, i.e it doesnt move, its only a picture, so there is never night, or can we see the sun setting, (like in OFP) and having a manificient sunset, following by a dark night?
:hallucine:
Second, will we be able to turn on tanks light?
Third, What will be weather (snow, sun, night, night rain, night snow...) and field (snow, grass...) present??
Finally, will there be a T55 in SB2??? and what are exactly the crewable tanks and other units???
Wish you will answear.... if you are allowed to :casstet:

I rather not answer that because if I gave an accurate answer it would be misleading, and if I gave a straight answer it would be a lie. So I do what I always do in such a situation: I shut up.

Also you can get a few more realistc NATO vs WP secaniors since they had over 10000 T-55s in Europe I sure NATO would of seen a few.

It must be funny to fight against T-55 on long range shot and face to face...

I cannot see the fun to destroy T55's at 3000m+ . Unless you like to fire at harmless sitting ducks ....

Unless its forty of them outfitted with ERA with T-80s mixed in. T55's to absorb your shots and T-80s to kill you.
HH, if and when u do RTW2004, maybe the Neuts can be armed with 60 T-55s and 60 MTLBs vs. 12LEO/M1s and 12PCs.

I will never play in an M1 or Leo against T-55, I am that kind of guy that could get shot in those conditions, and it would be very, very embarrasing. Far less embarrasing to be slaughtered in a T55, hehe

GF - I considered giving the Neutralians huge assloads of tanks so that defeating them would be a nightmare, but decided in favor of getting the VUs fighting each other quickly.
One of the features on the list (not The List) for the ultimate campaign would be a purchasing system, allowing teams to use hordes of cheap tanks rather than a few NATO tanks.

additionally, having all those T-55's around will serve to empty the expensive NATO tanks for ammo :)
another horde bonus...

Is it possible to bring two types of Sabot? (I mean replace the HEAT with something else).
Because, I'm wondering if you can use (those cheap)DM13s on those little T55 buggers.....
With lots of T55s running around, I wonder if you can create an OGRE scenario?

Eh, T55 vs M1/Leo is more of a WW2 Sherman vs Tiger parallel. A T55 could still kill an M1 with a rear shot. OGRE would be more a M1 vs a horde of BRDMs...

Hi,
I just thought that I would add that for me, the Cold War is far more interesting than contemporary wargaming. So having the equipment/ammunition fielded in the 80s, even if they are not fully crewable, would vastly add to Steelbeasts 2.
The Cold War never went fully hot, luckily, however, the armies did exist for real. In contemporary wargaming even the armies you fight with/against are fantasy armies.
So “near contemporary” would get my vote for an interesting game over “fully contemporary” every time.
Since 1989 there has been no real world chance of war between first world/advanced nations, happily. But as a wargame this does result in vastly one sided scenarios with any real world creditability. Fulda Gap 1985 is “the” post WWII setting for wargames, in my view.
Of course, we all differ in these matters.
Finally, I will of course be buying SB 2 regardless of whether the 1980s are covered, so you get your dosh anyway:). However, the lack of balance, and reality, in any credible post 1989 scenario means it is a big minus for shut games. In my view. :)
All the best,
Kip.

T-72s & BMP-1s vs M-60s & Chieftans eh? The dark days of brinkmanship...
Another good Post WW2 wargaming setting are the Arab-Israeli wars. Equipment wise, it would dove tail nicely into the eighties era too.

What about Leo1 & M113s vs T72s and BMP1s in West Germany 1979? This scenario can now be done (I think they already made it) for SB2. There are other such scenarios that can be made post Cold War. M1s vs. T72 in Sword Point (Libya vs. Egypt 1993 to Present). The Fall of Krajina (Operation Storm Krajina Pocket 1995) where Croatian Leos went up against M-84s (T72 made in Yugoslavia).
Kip, the scenarios that can be made to fit Real World Histories are vast. If yuu go to fantasy/Alternate history, its unlimited.
I for one would like to see The Canadian Civil War Campaign modeled, or the Chechnya Campaign refought again.

A thing i would like to se if that ever gets a reality is a horde of Leo1A5 vs a the same value of M1's. I don't know what the price tag is on an M1 but you will get alot of Leo1A5's.
