With the testing that has gone on so far >> what video cards are doing good for SB2 ??

Is there something special we need to look for in card for SB2 ??

NVidia GForce 4 or ATI Radeon 8000+ will do nicely . (hopefully)

Cheers . :3starsk2:

Has to be at least a Geforce 3. Not sure what the ATI equivalent would be.

you will need a ATI 9400 or higher. Minimum 128mb on the chip

Full DirectX8.1 support, DX9 stuff can't hurt either. At least 64MB of RAM, 128MB+ would be good.

Save your money and wait for the last possible moment. The minimum cards will be even cheaper by then, and the best cards will be even better for the same money. Don't buy hardware in advance unless you really, really need to. The depreciation of consumer electronics' prices punishes everybody who buys before the need actually arises.

Having said that, a GeForce 3 -today- will be the minimum. The best possible graphics card is not necessarily the most expensive one. It will also depend on your monitor - which resolution does it support?
If you're stuck with a 15 incher at 800x600, why would you need a high power deluxe card? You couldn't profit from it simply because their true power is unleashed only at high resolutions. Raise the resolution, and the frame rate drops. You don't just want the highest resolution (which is great for long range engagements, and picking out targets from the TC's place), but also a high and constant frame rate so it doesn't hurt the eyes to scan the landscape again and again, waiting for the enemy to show up. Finally, it's a question of image quality. Full screen anti aliasing is a really great thing - but it hurts NVidia cards' frame rates more than ATI's. Therefore, it also depends on your preferences of overall image quality
eSim Games will monitor the beta test closely to find out which cards work best under which conditions. We will give detailed recommendations and maybe even some benchmark runs for typical configurations once that we announce a release date. Until then we rather not recommend specific hardware.

Was that actually given as an estimate?

Or are you just being a shit-disturber? :)

My bet is JUNE 6th 04.. D-Day

"Delieverience-Day", as most kids, young adults, teachers, get out of school that month and have all the time to play the sim/game, and tell their buddies of the Greatness of it.. And they will come, charge them 20, 30, 40 dollars (no matter) they will pay, they will come.. There's something about the tanks rumble, the cannons sound, the artty's boomin steel rain from above..

It's a time honored love/tradition that goes back to the days of the first Armored Elephants that put the same awe and fear and respect in the eyes of those back then, as it does and will today..

And as sure-as-shit they should run, nope.. they will come, by the thousands..

Don't sell the land..err..plan Ray..err..Al and Nils, build it (right, without rush) and they will come

Maybe we should carry forward our dates from the "Guess the release date" contest last year, by just amending them to 2004. :)

That's one way of looking at it I suppose, and you could be right about military orders, but my bet stands for mid 2004.. and maybe you should get some SB chat time and online MP in with SB1 as to get up to speed for SB2 with the rest of us.. many from Sweden do, along with Britian, Germany and Solvakia.. and Israel, and Candians.. active for sure..

2001 never was discussed - at least not by us. Since Strategy First wanted to release SB Gold in Spring 2002, we had to delay the start of the development until after SB Gold release. Given that we only started in late spring 2002 with the development of SB2, I don't think we have yet exceeded the normal development time for a computer game.

critics of the development time for SB2 should go read some back issues of Gamasutra.

Black and White, an award winning game which used a new AI engine and revolutionized character based gaming required 3 years and 7 million dollars of effort. If you consider when the eSim team began working on SB in the mid to late 90's, then you will see that the interval between SBG and SB2 is still way under industry averages, considering that we have been told that many of the features of SB/SBG are being re-engineered (which is coder-speak for totally rewritten).

Chill out... and keep your fingers crossed for 2004.

As much as I want to see SB2, I am still finding SB1 a challenge. My respect for this game is immense and I want them to do the best they can on SB2. I suspect that I will be playing SB 1 & 2 long after I have given up on other games.

hehe, i thought i was impatient. Is good to stick here and watch what happens. I am very interested in playing other games. For tank sim, no other way to go than SB, but i also start to like Sub sims. I am seriously thinking about Silent Hunter 2 or subcommand. I dont think my pc is ready for SB2 anyways, and i have to wait 2 or 3 months before my budget allows me to go back to DSL. So, in fact, as the release looks now, it is good for me. I dont think i could stand not being able to play withthe bunch when SB2 is out. Quite bad is now not being able to play SB at all. I have a very comfortable chair here, a couple books to read and from time to time i can check forum to see how an rebel Swedes complains, LOL

My call is it comes out for Christmas, next year. This estimate is based on absolutely nothing.
