A Merkava recently received
by the French tanks
museum at Saumur.
So now You and e-sim can obtain the data you require, we are all now closer to all of our dreams of them Mid east battles. With the tank avabible and the IDF tankers here ,i can see no possible problem for you now, heheheheheh
My 1 and only reason to return to France by way of the the tank musum in the UK. :)

I already said to Ssnake to contact Saumur for infos about the Leclerc and a "why not" possible contract .
Saumur is a Tanker 's dream as well as the French Tanker school .
I believe Froggy told him too .
He could get the Merkava 's blue print as a bonus ! :)
Cheers . :3starsk2:

Anybody ever bother to ask the Ivans directly for any necessary info on T-80s? all they can say is fuckoff.
They might be interested in having their armor represented in a sim they could use.

The most critical part is to know how the fire control system works, and I suspect it's either non-functional or outdated (=out of the intended time frame for SB2). But it's good to know. Maybe, one day...

Bovington has also taken delivery of a fully operable challenger1, not to mention a swedish Centurion. So many tanks, so little time :?

No.Better to include it BEFORE they finish SB2.Is the interest not actually there on the part of E-sim to include these vehicles? If we gotta wait another year and a half anyway whats the difference?

OUCH!!
Maybe an added patch or 3 with new vehicles up the road for SB2, say one or 2 a year, starting 2005, 2006, on.. ?

Well I have been thinking that eSim games should have expansion packs. So then they will make more money (the businessman in me is saying that  ). Also Ssnake, how about you fellas make some Indian and Chinese tanks (I know, the mantra is getting to get kinda old by what the hell? ).

i'll bet plain missing. there's nothing israeli military is better than not giving its toys to others to play with. even Merk mk. 1, which is no more anywhere on the planet, is still confidential.
hell, the old Sho't tanks still are!
so what if they're targets for gunnery ranges for a long time now?
so don't hold your breath for Merks, and if you'll ever see a well simulated one, it would be dated to the early 80s (i.e. Mk. 1)

I am most shure , that any Israeli develompent Electronic piece of equimpent had left that tank ages before he was shipped . Any way , i have some pictures of the tank in the Museum . Pretty much ancient stuff  :

maybe old , but nice piece of kit .
Always found the Merk weird looking , almost scary ...
Cheers . :3starsk2:
BW, this tank has "don't fuck with me" written all over its face :-)
jave, i'm also sure the armor plates were replaced, some mechanical stuff was deliberately messed up etc. information security guys are completely obsessed when it comes to this.

Hmmm, maybe, just maybe, esim could make a % offer to the Israeli Army, for just the basic information on the sights/ballistic computor, etc..( to satisfy Ssnake) and with each "service pack" sold in the future with the Merk in it.. they get so much $..
Long shot I know.. but one never knows unless one tries.. lol
LS :?
for that deal you'll get only a precentage of the knowledge.
for example:
____ armor: ____ mm (the ___ is for missing information)

How did a French museum get a Merkava?!?
Bluewings
04-28-2004, 09:08 PM
French and Israelis sometimes work on technology stuff together ...
And Israel did use French Mirages and other stuff for a long time .
By the way , Leclerc and Merkava Mk4 share same engine and very similar Battle management system , ex: outside cameras , Hyperlinks with other Units , all displayed on HUD like in Jet Fighters .
Good Tanks thoses two ....
Cheers . :3starsk2:

MNice punch line you have there , Nepi
Anyways , i looked for a long time on this pics, trying to figure out what the **** is that . I even decided to contact official sources , on the question what kind of messed up piece of shit did the Museum recieved .
For example look at the serial number . Now look at the side plates . The side plates are from Merkava 1 and early 2 models , when all the rest of IDF Merkava 2 tank park side plates were upgraded . Several armor was removed . I also have pictures from the top, when you clearly see that the optics were removed . There is some strange mixup between Merkava 1 and 2 , and the date 1977 can mean very early prototype of Merkava 2, or upgraded Merkava 1 . But Merkava 1 don't have the Shulamit hair and the back baskets . And the turret configuration is kinda far from being Merkava 1 .
I sat for several hours trying to understand what Merkava is this . I came to conlussion that this is some special mutation sort of Merkava 2 (or perhaps 2B , but low chance) .
The guys that gave the Merkava to Museum really done big "plastic" work on it .
Even the mottor and transmittion is gone (this one made by American "request" , more like order - Didn't wanted to give France to look at the mottor ) . The turret is sealed from all the sides - all entrances welled .
So , no FCS , no mottor and transmittion , no real armor values ... ep , perhaps another 50 or 60 years .....
I have several pictures of the Merkava in Museum , this time on the top of the tank . Woulf you like to see ?

Ya, I don't think we will see the Merk in SB for some time, besides, why would you want to have IDF involved in imaginary conflicts of the future. Who want's to attack Israel?
jave, first, you shouldn't blow off the smoke screen
second, i think it's a mk2.
1977 is the year merk project went gold, nothing else.
of course they took apart anything that might be useful!
i suggest using pictures from other places, like Latrun armor museum in Israel. at least the organizers there are too embarassed to assemble the towing rings so poorly  (noticed it, jave?)
btw, you can see one of the greatest features of the merkava line: the rear baskets.
wonderful!

Any Merk's get captured in the Bekaa (spelling?) Valley ops of the 80s' (and weren't there some in the 90's?)? I have never had a chance to climb into one.

Yea , indeed  . Check the tactical markings too  . Ok , i think i have said to much  .
About the Bekaa valley , there was no tank fight there (only aircraft attack on Syrian AA site+ aircraft battle which ended with 90+:00 score IAF agains Syrian AF ) . But i do read that one of the Merkava 1 that was shot down was taken to USSR to analysis , and i even heard that it can be seen in Russian Kubinka museum (or some other place ) .
jave, i'm sure i would have heard about it. i'll have some calls and get back at ya.
notice the barrel ring. it slipped off to the muzzle!

Ok , i am an idiot .
There was battle in Bekaa , and allegedly just before the seaze fire there was a tank fight between Merkava and T-72 . Lately it was prooved more or less , that the T-72 that Merkava from 7 brigade was fighting with , were allready "capoot" before , by TOW AT units , and M60 .
I knew about that fact , but i had no idea it was there , near place called Sultan Yaakub . Ok , now i am officially a dumbass        .
jave, everyone makes mistakes. don't get too excited about it.
about a merk being captured, i'd be very surprised if it did. i'll check in the weekend with the proper authorities (the people that were actually in charge of such business at the time). there's an interesting story about a stranded T-72 and its extraction....but i have to check whether i can expand on this.

I am not excited .. :3starSK: It's all good baby .. All good .
Actually , the story you are talking about is not that classified (well , overall story) . I think it's even described in IDF General Raful book "The way of soldier" , ofthe attempts they made to recover one of T-72's . It's the same battle i was talking about , and probably the only engagement with T-72 (3 Syrian Division , remember the lessons ? :3starsk2: )
