View Full Version : Swedish Tank Gunner with some questions.. (SB2)

Hi!

I've been trained as a tank gunner in the Swedish Strv122 (Modified Leo 2A5). I came over SB during my military service and I think it's great! However, playing as a gunner with a 2-axis 4-button joystick is MUCH harder than using the joystick that is found in the gunners seat in the tank. For real. And I'm quite a good gunner. Got the best grades for my gunnery skills. I had 2.3 sec avg. from detection of target til shot fired. (Brag brag), but in SB I only manage to get as low as a 8.7 avg :(

Does anyone know if there is a better joystick than a flight joystick to handle the sight?

Now I wonder if anyone knows anything about the upcoming SB2?

Will it include the later models of the Leo? Or even the swedish strv122?

Since this is superior to it's predecessors with TIS in TC's PERI with 2 modes of magnification. The gunner can also switch between 4x and 12x magnification in they daytime sight. It also has added wedgeshaped armor in the front for more protection.

Also with a mobile camouflage system called Barracuda. It becomes nearly invisible for enemy TIS since it reflects heat from surrounding terrain.

Does anyone know how flexible the engine for SB2 will be? Say for example I want to create my "own military unit" from scratch. Will I be able to model it in a 3D-program and implement it in the game?

Is there any website with more info about SB2? I have HUGE resources (pics, data etc.) for the Leo, and I'm willing to share it with game developers.

Well, that's all for now

Leopard2A5 is very likely for SB2 but not yet officially confirmed; it's possible there will be expansion packs added at a later date to include vehicles like Leopard2A6 or Strv122.

User-edited units are almost certainly not going to happen; eSim wants to maintain a standard of carefully-researched realism and presumably that would fall apart if people were able to cook up their own vehicles.

The best information sources about SB2 (that I know of) are this site's FAQ (check the SB2 Release News) and http://www.esimgames.com.

Well, I've gotten a 2.7 second average with a simple 3-axis 4 button Gravis Blackhawk. HH has done it too, but I don't know what he used.

Also a Gravis, probably 10-12 years old; 2-axis, 2-button (three physical buttons but only mappable to two controls). I HATE pseudo-aircraft joysticks, and I'm having trouble finding one with a structure as simple as what I have now.

Probably not. It's still considered pretty confidential.

A few things are obvious though - the material can absorb those IR frequencies that are most suitable for sighting devices (least absorbed in the atmosphere), and release the energy in other frequencies that are not so suitable for IR sensors. In addition, the outside can be covered with the same material as the "thermal tape" of the US battlefield identification kits to reflect the thermal background radiation around the vehicle. It will therefore mask the vehicle to some degree, but I would expect that this effect degrades as the camo netting is catching more and more dust particles over time.
