Gentlemen..

There is a reason to say YES to "Open Tanks" when taking units before game.. BUT

This is for a GOOD reason but also has and does cause BIG problems:

The good part of it is as follows:

If you pass a tank to someone.. it remains open to everyone on your team, as opposed to if one says NO to "Open Tanks", no one can get in your tanks ever, and when you give a tank to someone with this condition, that person is the only one that can enter that tank.. AND if you drop from a game, all your units are USELESS, and are AI only.. NO GOOD

BUT: with "open tanks" others, while on the map, can see a unit with a target close by, jump in, and take shot for kill and "GET OUT" after that kill in under 4 secs.. AND SHOULD.. go back to the map and WAIT FOR A TANK FROM SOMEONE IF you're out of tanks.. and ADVISE others of targets, etc..

DO NOT just jump into someones tank because YOU DON'T have any and no one has "given you" a tank when you asked.. most likely, they are quite engaged.. and when someone has the time, you'll get your tank..

WHEN you just jump into the GUNNERS position and STAY there, you risk that tank and it's owner by taking away HIS gun and KNOWLEDGE of an enemy target that maybe, and usually is, off to its flank.. OUT OF YOUR GUN SIGHT.. and he loses the "KNOWN SHOT" and tank because of YOU just sitting there as the tank is moving or still...

IF you see a target right away or from map and jump in, YES take the shot, but get out FAST..

Two GOOD ways to KNOW that the OWNER has RETURNED.. Tank starts MOVING or YOU HEAR the TC HATCH MOVE... GET OUT THEN >> FAST

THIS is a very senitive subject to ALL that have had this happen to them.. DO NOT be part of this ROOKIE mistake..

Any questions, just reply here..

Yes, it is very important to let someone know that your going to jump into his tank as gunner. Had that happen to me a few times where i was going after a tank and, I wont mention his name but his nickname is tankhunter  , I knew where the tank was and he didnt and he jumped in the tank gunner spot and started scanning in opposite direction than where i needed him to scan and needless to say it cost me that tank. Of course I was pissed and i let TH know i was, hehe, but i do understand rookies do that as i have done that myself so i dont hold anything against th for it. I have no problem with someone jumping in my gun, but at least let me know so if im going after a tank i can direct you where to scan if im looking for a certrain thing.

The quickest way to get out, incidentally, is to hit F9. In general, do so anytime someone enters the observer or TC position, or any time you're in somebody else's tank and it starts to maneuver. If the guy wants you back (rare) he'll say "HH gun 33A" or words to that effect. Usually the owner's situational awareness is worth more than your ugly arse in the gunner's seat, though. :)

Also, if somebody jumps into the TC/Observer position and you get a "scan left/scan right/scan front" message, follow it - it means the owner is trying to work with you, probably because there's a threat so close that he doesn't think he can get you out of the tank in time to engage himself. The most likely scenario is he'll pivot to put front armor on the threat, and tell you to scan front, and in the next two seconds you'll be either a hero or a goat.
