Anyone else getting this message, and not being able to edit one's post after it has been posted for more than 100 minutes ?

I don't know about most of ya, but I keep seeing spelling errors, or wrong words, or forgotten words, that need to be put in my post, and this time-limit, is gonna make my spelling errors/brain-fart mistakes, hold up..

I hope this "edit-time-limit" feature is re-called.. IMHO

LOL

Not to rub salt in old wounds, but you're one of those here who was upset before that people could edit posts after others had responded to them. My suspicion is that the new version of the software was built with that complaint in mind.

Maybe Sean can turn it off or increase the time length - but if he does turn it off, let's not hear complaints about people editting their posts if things get a little hot again (and surely they will, sooner or later).

 Let me clear this up with ya Chaplin, that aspect of changing ones post did upset me, so, if I found something I didn't like or agree with, I simply "quoted it" before any said person could "change it" after a responce from me.. Then, I got somewhat, chewed-on, for quoting others untasteful remarks.. So, I think that the edit, later on availability is a plus, in regards to anyones saying something that needs to be edited by them, or if they have a change of heart after a said 100ms..

Bottom line is, nothing really changes in regards to "capturing the truth" of someones post.. But, it is also wise for the Quoter, to erase any such tempered post, once the offending party makes their changes.. and I have, to the best of my knowledge done this for a bit now..

If you don't know, then I will clear this up with anyone, in that, in really hot issues, I have not been leaving my, or anyone elses quoted, dirty laundry out hangin in the SB wind.. if I quoted someone and they cleaned up their end..

This has been my approach of late..

Now, I was taught by the Old Guard (Hackworth) not to change or delete a dumb or stupid post, so that others reading, would understand what everyone elses post-replys were speaking of and to..

But, knowing you, you will dig up the latest brain-fart, I have out there and remind me of when it was..

I'll say this Chaplin, our memories are clear towards things..

Another thing Chaplin, and others need to think about, and remember..

Rather than dwell on history, "learn" from it..

What I mean is, many of us in here post late at night, or early in the mornings.. And we all make tired, tempered, dumb, wrong wording, etc.. post at those times.. And in the morings after, or later in the day, before anyone has had a chance to read them or respond, they/we, change them with fresh thinking, making them right.. for the most part.. lol

FYI, in a post reply question from Mapman, to me in regards to "did I get a new system?".. it took me 3 days to answer him, cause it took that long for me to get the wife to tell me where the reciept was to answer him..

And in my post, I in my early morning reply to him (after I PM'd MM as to the delay) I was not firing on all 8 cyl's, and put down "2 Wester Digital Raptor HD's @ 10,000rpm mirrored.."

Then later in the day, I caught it, and tried to correct it in that they are "both 80Gb HD's mirrored".. so anyone reading it may have a question as to, why only 80Gb HD's, and not 2 120Gb HD's..?

There is a reason for the 2 80's and not 2 120's..

That is why I think we need at least, 24hrs/48hrs.. or no time limits.

IMHO..

So preventing this community from swinging back and forth is dwelling on the past, is it?

I did not say it would be wrong for the community to decide that the time limit should be lengthened. I didn't say it would be wrong to get rid of it altogether, either.

What I'd like to prevent is swinging back and forth. "People shouldn't be able to go back and edit posts." 6-12 months later: "Whose idea was it to prevent us from editing our posts?" Another 6-12 months: "So and so dissed me and then editted it out of his posts. That shouldn't be allowed!" And so on.

We only learn from the past by looking at it clearly. We don't learn from it by forgetting it. If none of us dig up those old brain farts, and remind everyone what the opinions were last time the issue came up, then we'll end up swinging from pole to pole, rather than staying more or less balanced.

Is there anything worth this much grief?

LS it doesn't offend me to see someone quote a bad post and I would never ever take the time to go back and edit such things from past quotes IMO the person quoted should feel embarrased and not the quoter. In some ways I agree with Chaplain but changing things based on complaints can and will run you in circles.

Is there anyone who can look at the past clearly? Granted it is easier to see but there is so much we forget...how can you look back on something you never saw, how is it possible to tell what you missed, it kind of like imagining something you cannot concieve, relativistically impossible, hindsight is not 20/20 and never will be, over?

well, i get the same thing. i agre with what i think LS is saying, in that, I may tell someone to fuckoff at 3 in the morning and think differently about it at 11 am the next morning.People talk in TS and straighten things out, associates talk to us and straighten our brains out. I dont think thats the same things as going and changing 6 month old posts.I dont think there is any of that going on anyway, and i think the issue is a red herring. Anyway, who t is trying to follow 6 month old conversations anyway?People post things, they ought to be able to change them.If you didnt quote something from someone else, or read a post before they changed it, who cares? what difference does it make anyway? it's more important that some muckraker be able to quote some nasty old shit and re-open wounds than it is for someone to have the ability to change what he said after further reflection?

I put a post up yesterday, that i edited progressively 4 times over a period of several hours before the other party got a chance to read it, and it's better that i did, i have no doubt. No good would have come of it had i been stuck with it, not for me, not for him or his feelings, and not for the shit that would have resulted and the friction likely to have been present in the community afterwards. It think the prerogative of he who posted is more important than the facilitation of he who would dig in the dirt, hackworth and chaplain positions not withstanding.

hackworth and chaplain positions not withstanding.

'Tis not my position. How many times do I have to say that? I don't care if people can edit their old posts or not.

I was pointing out that others (including LS) have said in the past. If he and others have determined that what they wanted back then is no longer what they want, so be it. I just want to be sure they have thought it through, rather than simply reacted to a new and unexpected inconvenience.

Thank you Sherman for making it clear-er to the rest.. damn, I didn't think it was that deep of a subject to some.. :?

Let's also be clear, that since as long as I can remember, for over the last year, all of us, anyone, has been able to go in and edit a post no matter if 1 week old, or waaaaaaaay longer.. and NO ONE has complained.. least me in the last year..

So, where some people get their ideas is beyond me..

As I said, history is not to dwell on, but learn from, and history shows us that for the last year, editing any post of any date, has been done, and I have seen nor heard of no one complaining.. But just the opposite, as we have done here, to get some kind of posting extension for reasons explained by both me and Sherman..

For those brain farts..

Well maybe this time limit will prevent people from starting trouble. Then editing it and accusing others of manipulating "QUOTES". Then running to the moderaters and getting people booted. And before anyone reverts back to accusing me of being Eagle Eye again. I am not he i just had a long typed convorsation with him in PMs on Yahoo. And he told me why he was booted.

I for one think he has served enough time. And i feel he should be re-admited to the forums.

Actually, I may have some evidence that HT ISN'T EE.

I talked to HT in chat a couple months ago. EE was also in chat talking to some people.

I vaguely remember EE telling HT something to the effect that the people playing SB were assholes and not to waist his time with them.

HT PMed me and asked me what EE's problem was, and I remember talking to him about it, which would explain why he thought EE was in trouble with the mods (I think I told him something to that effect
 )

Sorry HT, I think I owe you an apology.

P.S. You can still come on TS and talk to us, and we can type back our responses.
