I miss the newest to top order of the old forums, but if the "new posts since last visit" function works as advertised then I'll adjust.

Mostly this message is to make me the first non-admin to create a topic in the general discussion area. And to perform an experiment with my sig.

I just realized I like the old brown and green over this baby blue stuff. But I'm here for the content, not the style.

Ah, here's a worthwhile question: what happened to the old boards? will there be a way to access that wealth of information and scenarios and other files?

Don't worry, Honor.
I've seen PHP forums which do have a "jump to latest post" button working, so this should to it just fine. There's actually already IS the option to sort it according to personal preferences (see the little arrows next to Post New Topic and Post Reply?).
Eventually we'll get the black/brown/green style back (you can even switch skins in your personal preferences). Remember that Sean planned to move to PHP once the SB2 marketing campaign started. That's still a bit away, but we're very lucky that the new forum basically works already. Artwork stuff will be done later.

The orld boards still exist under the old address (if you have bookmarked it), but they don't accept new posts, and they still miss last month's postings due to that backup disaster. Therefore it is sensible to go on with this new board, even if it is still in alpha stage as far as the skin/appearance/artwork is concerned. We may be lucky and get the missing postings restored at some point later, but we didn't want to wait forever.

I want to take the opportunity to thank Sean Donner big time. He started helping out RnR and Tankboy when their time went scarce (Eric just moved from Italy to the US with his family), and when major changes were inevitable since the old site was running out of web space.
"Thanks" to that disk crash the colocator granted all victims a doubled web space for lifetime for the same price. Since we already increased, this is good news, and in the long run we will probably glad about this misfortune. ;)

As far as the uploaded stuff in the old forum is concerned, I suspect that this will be moved to a convenient place for download - be it in a new uploads forum, or directly in the download area of the fan site.

I like it! Can't think of anything else to post... just thought I'd give posting a go. I guess the old bet on when we reach 1000 registered members is off? My new bet is June 2003. Well back to work....

Alrighty! Once we get this thing to look like a tank forum should look everything will be hunky-spunky.

I much prefer the top down format more. Still, the black text on green background is quite hard to read.

I can't find a place to log on to the forum's without following the Home link first. Would it be possible having the Forums link on the steelbeasts.com homepage go the the Home for the forums? It would save a few steps if a person decides he wants to post something.

I've played with PHP Content Management Systems & once things settle down here from disaster recovery mode & Sean has the time, everyone will really enjoy the new system. It will be better forums, personal customization at the least!!!! Overall more content that we can share about our favorite subject SB!!!

Well done Sean & thanks for all your hard work!!!!

This forum system is....not an improvement. I don't really see anything here that's better than the old, much less makes up for the good features of the old that are missing. The menu thing on the left needs to go, the Posts/Registered/Status thing under each user's name on EVERY POST needs to be gone, or in a much smaller font. The avatars could stand to go too...not much point if they're not user-definable, they just take up space. I miss the newest-to-oldest sorting. Then there's the colors, yes.

I can't say I have much desire to use this thing as it is now.

Mekh,

The forum will eventually be wider when the site theme is changed from 800x600 to 1024x768. Then it wont look so bad. But the buttons, annoying as they are, all have a function. They aren't going away. Some of the stuff on the left, like date registered, can go, I'll look at the options list and see if it can be turned off.

Sean,
I miss the UBB option to create bulleted and numbered lists. Am I too stupid?

Mekh:
All threads can be sorted in ascending and descending order with a click on the black arrow buttons at the top of each thread. Only the first post will always stay at the top.

"The old boards still exist under the old address (if you have bookmarked it ..."

Oops! I always accessed the old Boards through the link on SteelBeasts.com, I never used the address for the Boards themselves.

What is the address of the old Boards?

Thanks!

Well, at this point there's just a message that the board is under maintenance, so even if you have the old address bookmarked you couldn't access the old threads at this point.
I am confident that as soon as the data restoration has been finished (or proven unsuccessful) the fan site staff will place a link to the old boards.

I can but ask for patience here.
