View Full Version : external camera views
Hi, does anyone know if SB PRO PE is going to have any options to place cameras and record the events, like in playback after a mission? I figure in sb1 you can view the events in the editor ( ie which hit came from where etc), what would be better is to place the camera NEXT to a target( before it is hit, to check it is defeinitely getting the sh** blown out of it, only for tactical evaluation of course, not to make wicked films then put soundtracks to 'em. that would be childish im sure
Actually now i think about it, some of the earlier SB PRO PE shows camera views from the targets aspect, getting hit, with a little window giving the details, ie, target speed, distance etc
what i would like to see is some of the camera options from games like Flanker2 ( dont own LOMAC) where there is a fly by view ( imagin that in a tank sim, with rpg's, REFLEX's ( tell me if ive got any names wrong, dont really know my military stuff) WHOOSHING past( with the same outstanding sound from SB1) whilst in the background you see the the various units from the battle group split up, hull down and return fire- especially in glorious 32 bit colour, hi resolution- all to the sound of the heaviest metal soundtrack ever!, but only for tactical evaluation mind you...
Pide
or a chase view- SNAP! as the projectile leaves the barrell, and at some really high velocity the camera follows the sabot/ heat 3-4-5 kilometers across the nice looking lansdscape onto/ into the target -WOW! mebbe this stuff is for SB2 the game, i dunno
SB2 should have a recorder option, then your headmovements from the tc pos, as yu scan(or peri) could be recorded, switch to gunners pos as yu offload the target to gunner-"GUNNER!-TANK!-FIRE-FIRE SABOT! it would/ could be a fairly dynamic representation of the Hunter/Killer combination that i read about all the time, which is what a tank crew should be i guess.
just tell me to shut up if i start going off im=nto dreamtime too much- better yet, ishould be banned, yep- thats it, i should be banned, also, no one else should be reply to my posts ok? cause its mine, and yu guys can make your own posts
admins pls close all my posts, i was drinking again

The AAR allows you to assume any position in the 3D view when playing back the events. You can zoom in and out, elevate the view, or tether your position to a certain vehicle - no problem.

In SB1, during AAR, right click the unit you are interested in and select Thether here.
Then use the Q and Z keys to move up and down and the mouse or A and D keys to move left and right. Click on the play button and follow the action.
but will we be able to record it for later use?
btw, pide, the "bullet cammera" will be quite disorienting. it will take up to 2 seconds to hit the target (with a sabot) VVVVOOOOOOM!<blank>

Um sorry, this isn't Max Payne: Tanker Edition.
We don't have "Sabot time".

I am ashamed.
I should have realized the vast reaches of The List know no bounds.
Praise be to The List.
I must go now, and repent of my unfaithfull ways.
man, that round combustion is crazy!
it will be nice, though, to have a "tracer" line from the barrel to the target, so we could find where that target was quickly, and to see the point of impact. just a thin line that will show the trajectory.
will it be hard to implement?

I don't know...I think the slowmo action just before your tank gets blown to bits from multiple angles (especially BSE) could be a real gas in AAR.

That vector line thingy isn't difficult per se (although the question is how to compensate the platform and target motion into one static picture that is supposed to represent up to two seconds of battle time). But like I wrote two years ago, we have so many different feature ideas that selection is the most important part. The mission is to pick those ideas that will advance the simulation most towards our ideal.

Since I'm not a tank commander or crewman, I'm not sure exactly what features the military clients are most interested in. But based on my experience especially with other military-used sim software, the features of an AAR system can be one of the biggest factors. In real life battle training, no live minutions are used, and there is no combat photographer able to record the action. When a vehicle is "tagged" with the laser to simulate a kill, you can't really understand exactly where that round had hit, or what real damage would have been caused. In the simulation software world, you are using live munitions. And if an advanced AAR system is available, those commanders and crew can now see exactly where they hit or got hit, and watch exactly how that round affected the struck vehicle.
I'm not completely sure how much actual use a "Sabot Cam" view would help, but being able to see the shells in flight from tube to target with some sort of trace mark would be effective. Also, if the system is able to record in real time the vehicles both a few seconds before and after the hit, you can view it from both the firing unit and the target unit, to watch how the round hit and what damage it did. I think I saw a pic of an AAR, that now shows rounds impacting targets, with explosions etc. Also being able to view through the firing unit's gunner view before, during and shortly after the round is fired will help keep track of individual gunnery skill by watching how that gunner tracked his target, and to see if he chose to fire too soon, too early, etc.
I think what is in the mind of Ssnake and the rest of the team is to integrate the features that will be most useful for their primary clients, which are military, and will in turn offer the other features to the gaming community through upgrade packs, as time and money allows. Putting the most preferred features in SB Pro while waiting on the "least preferred" will attract more buyers, therefore making more profits with less cost. And more profits equal more funds to splurge on the development of additional SB2 features. :D

Sabot cam would be kind of cool.
As for splurging on SB2 stuff, are there plans for an upgraded Pro PE version for those of us who don't want anything "watered down"?

I always thought the AAR feature in Falcon 3.0 (still have to get a copy of 4.0) was way cool.

...From my experience: during life training you are able to confirm what hit you and who(cause the laser will transmit coded infomation) and from where(as all veh. and weapon sys. are monitored via gps).and you also have a pretty good "damage model"...this enables you to get nearly all information you need for your AAR...(for example: getting your butt kicked because you fired at an ambulance ;-) )
I know that doesn't fit into the general discussion area...just wanted to get this point rigth
