Manual of SB Pro PE

just would like to know which kind of manual would be included in SB Pro PE..
A BIG and detailed manual or only a kind of "tutorial" and minimum information ?
And in whic format ? paper , .pdf , ...

It's a printed manual, but we had to cut vehicle specific information from it - these taught in the tutorials. The manual will focus on installation, general design principles, added features (especially artillery), and be a bit more verbose about the editors than the SB1 manual.

Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you for NOT skimping and shorting us on manuals. I've seen a decline in the simulation genre that coincides with the demise of great printed manuals. In the days of the Janes sims and Falcon, we had GREAT manuals! Looking forward to this one.

No, I don't see that happen anytime soon. We have partial localization wherever possible, but keeping different manuals in stock and updating them simultaneously simply exceeds our resources. Should countries like Austria or Switzerland decide to buy SB Pro in numbers, this could turn the table. The Bundeswehr is not gonna buy anyway (still too many AGPTs running), so translating the manual and maintaining that translation would be left on my shoulders. There's no way how I could manage that again. I did it with SB1's manual - can still be downloaded from here - so I know how much work is involved.

Aside from the translation of the manual (which is bad enough), there'd be the constant need to update it, and then to print different manuals and keep them in stock. All this adds up to the point where it simply doesn't make sense, from a financial point of view.

One thing you might want to consider Ssnake...

Make the manual available in HTML format in English. From their I blieve Google and some other online tools can do a fairly good job of instant translation.

As you update the product, add addendums to the web-manual with links to the translated pages.

You couldn't even give it to a standard translater for their lack of knowledge about military and technical vocabulary, and their most appropriate translation (e.g. if a certain phrase suggests underlying differences in doctrine as well). We exclusively rely on former or current military personnel to translate our texts, be they in-game or the manual. Others just don't cut it.

Still, with humans doing the translation, HTML would be an easy and cost effective way of keeping the manual up to date. Or for that matter, let the machine do the initial translation and then a human edit it for accuracy and clarity. Could save many man hours.

Ssnake's ass is right, Google (or any other translating service I know of) doesn't really translate from one language to another. They substitute the words on a one-for-one basis as they encounter them, failing and/or unable to account for differences in syntax and/or grammar. Where grammar and syntax are closely similar this isn't a problem, where they aren't it is.

For an example, and apologies in advance for the ugly things I'm about to do to the German language

'Mach die Fernseher andrehen'

Could be translated as:

Make the far-seeing switched over
Make the far-seer switched turned
Make the switch on the far-seer

Depending on the translator, when in fact the German sentence said (sort of) 'Turn the TV on'.

'I'm going to the theater' is translated more or less into German as 'Ich bin zur Theater gehen' which re-translated into English would read 'I to the theater am going'. Translating errors work both ways, I'm showing you the German-English direction so you'll get an idea of what German-speaker would face, trying to decipher the SB manual.

Something similar happened when the folks who put out Balkans in Flames tried to substitute English for Russian, word by word. It made the manual into English, but the English was essentially unintelligible because grammar and syntax rules weren't translated along with vocabulary.

Well, about translations, I'm sure that there is enough nationalities on this forum to make several PDF (free Word -> PDF converters are available on the web) with other languages.

Even if it would not be "official" manuals, a site like this one could put them online for the community.

Well, once that you have bought SB Pro PE and its manual, you are of course free to translate it, print it to PDF, and upload it here. Been there, done that last time (but I didn't even get a tee shirt).
