There is a demo of the original Steel Beasts game available for download. If you are referring to the new Steel Beasts Professional, then the answer is No. We don't have a demo version ready for it.

GR.. welcome aboard

Your "noob-ness" ehh ? With an avatar like that, along with a great signature pic at bottom, I have my doubts.. hehehe

Trust me, forget the SB demo, and find yourself a copy of SB1 Gold edition, ram it into your PC, and then, come see and enjoy a real "Demo" in online MP with us..

Be the best spanking ya ever got, and the real wake-up call of your tank-sim life..

We like to call it, "Accelerated Ground School"

Thanks very much for your reply Ssnake....I see I'm talking to the expert
I would e-mail you....however.. I do not see your e-mail address anywhere

Would you be kind enough to let me know that e-mail address?
or... if you wish,
message me directly.. GHOSTRIDER_WG@YAHOO.COM
Because I would very much like to view and evaluate any version of the demo software....does the demo allow for on-line multi-player action?

thanks again
GHOST

PS: Thanks to you as well Lone star.. I appreciate your help, and look forward to shooting at you at some point in the near future :P
as you noticed...I am into wargames.. but have never tried SB.
I have heard a lot of good things about it though.

BW, I like the Leo!

I appreciate your help, and look forward to shooting at you at some point in the near future Razz
If you even see him... I'm still pretty fresh, and take it from me, more often than not, you're dead before you see a thing unless you're FAST and you know exactly what you're doing. I recommend hooking up with an excellent CO (anything good I do on the SB battlefield is owed to the wonderful folks at 2nd Dragoons!) and making like a sponge with their sage knowledge.

Trust me, this ain't no rush 'em kill 'em game...

1) It's easy to guess.
2) If, in your profile settings, you pick "PNTheme" for the forum display, you'll see buttons like "email" under each member's messages.

If I see it right it is the original version for sale here. Try and get the Gold version or patch it up to 1.226 (if you buy an older edition) before you start, esp. the M1 has taken a lot of changes during the patches. If you wanna be in MP game it's best to have the latest patch to avoid trouble with different versions.

Welcome aboard btw ;) :3starsk2:

Thanks guys... I did get the demo... and was up to the wee hours running the tutorials...
I think it's safe to say I can officially hit the broad side of a barn at this point :)
I found the lase n blaze concept interesting.. I never knew they had that toy on the Abrams..
but then again..for 4 million dollars a copy... it should have all the coolest toys eh?
I was so excited I called General Dynamics to place an order for one.. they hung up on me.. dunno why tho http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v65/GHOSTMP/0Evillaugh.gif

I liked my other avi too, it's actually part of a .mov clip thats on G.D.'s land systems division web site
that was edited into a animation.
if ya would like to have a look at that movie.... click the Abrams pic below.
(it may take a moment to load however, so be patent, 16 meg. quicktime file)
but well worth the wait to see that sabot round hall ass across the live fire range.

I'm working on getting my hands on a copy of SB Gold now so, hopefully
I'll be able to get on-line within the next few days, so ya'll will have a noob target to fire at.

thanks again...enjoy the movie..

GR..

HINT: With the M1, you must make sure that the ammo load-out is "indexed" in the BC (Ballistic Computor). Sabot rounds are the "insert key" and Heat rounds are the "delete key".. otherwise, if the TC, or you, *as TC, change the type round call-out to the loader (*same keys) you will find that your Heat rounds fall way short of a target, and visa versa, in that if the BC is set for Heat round, and you have a Sabot loaded up, it is going to sail waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past your target, even with a correct lase..

You will see what is loaded in the breach, type round, both in the upper right hand corner of your screen, and for indexing, bottom left corner.. as well, if ya hear it, a call-out of either "Sabot up, or Heat up"

GPS: Gunner's Primary Sight.. GAS: Gunner's Auxiliary Sight

There is also, for both tanks (I think), but for sure in the M1, in the GAS, a setting for both Sabot a/o Heat.. think it's the R key.. not sure as of this writing..

Note: in the Leo, you need not worry about this procedure, as it is done automatically and you will not have this situation arise (ammo-indexing) using GPS.

HINT: until ya have the GPS down pat, in both tanks, if ya get battle-damaged in a tank, and lose the GPS, best bet is to leave it, and let the AI do its shooting (does a good job) and jump into a fresh tank, and carry-on with the battle.. IMHO learn the GAS later on, when ya get used to *targets size (in sights) and *their looks at ranges from under 1000m thru, and to, 3000m. This will be of great help.. IMO as well.

Good Hunting...

Where is the "ammo-index" located in a real tank, how does the gunner change or does the loader that?

Gunner changes it in M1, loader in Leo 2. As to where it exactly is, I don't know.

Thanks Lone Star.. for the tips.. you are always so helpful and it's appreciated..
I do have some discouraging news however....and after setting aside my pride I will tell you whats happening..
You see.. in real life I am a aircraft re-fueler, I fuel large body aircraft for a few of the major US airlines.
Recently...I was injured while on the job from a fall from a ladder while servicing a AirBus A-320.. which requires a 12 foot step ladder to reach the re-fueling panel and connection.. anyway...I fell.. and suffered a spine injury which has put me out of work for approx. 10 weeks..
The implications of this are tremendous to my personal financial situation...and after attempting to locate a copy of SB Gold via various means....ie: borrowing one or aquiring a complementary copy somewhere.. I have been un-able to do so....
So...that being the case...currently... I regret to say that I do not think I will be able to join the membership in on-line battle for some time.. unfortunately..
Indeed it is depressing.. as I was looking forward to it...and felt confident I would be able to get my hands on my own copy of SB Gold... I would prefer to have that version because it requires little or no patching...from what I understand... it's multi-player, on-line ready to go..
I will continue to play the demo..as I have been every day since getting it...as it is addictive and a lot of fun.. with all this time on my hands it provides a escape from the real problems I'm suddenly faced with..
I will also continue to monitor the forums...but with the limited expose I have to SB so far...I'm afraid I won't be able to offer much to the conversations..
Posting this was difficult.....but after a discussion about it with a senior member...I was encouraged to do so.. it's a pride thing..
Anyway.. I'll keep on trying to get my copy of SB Gold.. but I felt it important and fair to tell you guys of my situation...so that you did not think I had lost interest..

be well everyone.... and hope to meet you all on the battle field soon..

Ghostrider, if you get TS (teamspeak) some of us may find a way to get the sim for you. Talking via TS is more efficient than via E-mail or forum. That is why I suggest getting it.

GhostRider....

The link above for the regular version is a good one and the price is under $16.

It will take you all of ten minutes to download and install the two free patches needed to bring you up to speed with SB Gold.

All the maps and newer scenarios are available here on sb.com for free.

If you have ten weeks of down time, I can think of no funer way to spend it.

Online play is free.

Patches are free.

Maps are free.

Scenarios are free.

Expert opinions of all sorts here at sb.com are free.

No need to spend more money on sb gold if you don't have it and you can have the regular version in about three days.

:-)

Thanks TankHunter, and mapman...
and a new update.. it appears I have located a copy of SB Gold after all...
and should have it soon.. pretty exciting stuff eh ? :!:

Regarding TeamSpeak.. I found the website:
http://www.goteamspeak.com/news.php
would this be the one you are talking about?
if so..I assume I need the "TS2 Client" application yes?
also..it appears some server connection information will be needed ie: server address / IP addy
where would I locate that info?

once you install teamspeak just log on here and click on the teamspeak link on the left and it will take you there and start teamspeak for you. The rest we can figure out when you get to teamspeak... Good luck
