If my email didn't reach ya.. then, sounds like an old TV.. in that when cold at start up.. everything is fine..but once it "heats" up and you hear snaps.. color fades, changes, etc.. So, like TV, your monitor may be the problem.. in heating up..you hear snaps, and color starts to wash out etc.. I hope this is not the problem... Hang in there..others will respond with diff views and suggestions... Ls.. :)

Ok, first questions...
Is the snap coming from the monitor or from the cpu case?
Did U install or uninstall any new drivers or games in the last few weeks?
How old is the monitor and what resolution are U running the monitor at?
Will need more info before responding with a solution.

Check the following

1. your monitor plugin at graphics card
2. graphics card loose
3. what have you changed lately
4. does the change in monitor colors only happen in sb
5. how many minutes after you start playing sb does it happen...always the same time

Do you by chance use NetMeeting? We use it in my organization. If I forget to shut that down entirely when I play a round of SB (only during breaks, mind you :o), I will get partway into a scenario and then the pallete shifts. From that point on it is almost impossible to play.

This happens because NetMeeting uses Direct X for some of its tasks. Games like MechWarrior 2 and F16 MRF won't even run if NetMeeting in running in the background.

I doubt NetMeeting is the only utility that has this effect, either. You might try shutting down other programs until you find the culprit in you case.

What you could to, is take a screenshot when it looks wrong, and look at that screenshot the other day. If the screenshot looks fine, it either is the monitor (most likely), or the graphics card, or the signal cable.

resolution:1024x768
graphic card: ATI technoligies inc, 3D rage pro AGP 2X

the snap comes from the monitor...

it only happens in SB....
and its happens on diferent times.... the strange thing is that i can oppen up another program and then when i get back to SB its normal again!!!! :exclam:

I have Netmeeting on the computer but I havent installed it, so I dont think it could be the problem....
nopp.. the graphic card is not loose...

I will try to get a screenshot from when its changed coulor so u all can se how it looks...

SB uses a screen resolution of just 640x480, not 1024x768... It may be that some background application is influencing the color palette of SB. I have no idea how this could happen, but that's about the only explanation I have that relates to software, not hardware.

I just had a haunting bout of "Deja Vue"........I had a similar experience with a not to disimilar setup...
I had installed a this new ATI rage pro card a few months before the trouble, I suspected the monitor of trying to do a mode switch, caused by a signal from the ATI card, there would be a sort of "POP" then the screen would desynch as if trying to reset and SB's colour would be corrupted until I ALT Tabbed to desktop and back again.

I strongly suspected the ATI card because I changed the card out for the old Cirrus logic card I had previous and had no problems.

However I was never able to confirm the fault because shortly after that the monitor died, which means my monitor could have been on the way out in any case, it served me loyally for 7-8 yrs.

Try and borrow another monitor just to test if the problem persists.

thanks Rockape!!! it's sounds EXACTLY like my problem....
but that sounds not to god thoe.... bcz that'sgive two results:
1. my monitor will die soon....
2. I have to by a new soundcard...
and both are bad.....

Other alternitiv is too stop play SB until cristmas when I will by a new computer...

but thats 2 months!!!!!!!!!!!! :exclam:

well atleast I know what the problem is.....
thanks again Rockape!!!! :D

What color settings are you using i.e. 256, 16 bit, 32 bit?

Not necessarily all doom "KT"..

Like i said i never did pin point the cause, it could have been the card, it could have been the monitor or both,

Your safest bet is to borrow a monitor to see if the fault is reproduced, that way at least you know if it is the card or the monitor, to be honest my experience with ATI's have not been the best silly things like causing mode switching and programs to CTD for no reason or error message.

Greetings Kingtiger,
confirm that the current drivers U have installed are up to date for Rage Pro
Win.98 drv. 4.10.1720..... or alt Drv 4.13.1.2655 [J5.30.1-B02](support dx8.1 & openGL) date Apr 2,2002- not WHQL cert.
Win.ME Drv 4.10.00.3000.....or alt drv 4.13.2655[J5.30.1-B02](supportMe,98SE,98,Dx8.1,OpenGL)Apr.2.02 Not WHQL Cert.
Win.XPDrv5.1.2001.0.......or alt Drv 5.10.2600.6010[J5.30.1-B02] apr.2.02
I have found that the alt. drivers worked much better than the stand. install ones as they support Dx8.1 Also confirm that your running Dx8.1 drivers.

Ps: the monitor poping sound is normally associated with the monitor trying to set a different refresh rate[sometimes screen size also]. I find that if u confirm with the monitor information on avail. and allowed refresh rates U can normally set your monitor to a min. of 75hrz but better at 85hrz. [ U may have to adjust the screen position] If the graphics card will allow higher rates, check the monitor avail. settings so as to not over tax the monitor and lead to an earlier replacement date! The default settings are around 60hrz and that will lead to eye strain over prolonged viewing. (your eyes see the flicker and get tired faster) At 85-100hrz the monitor refresh rate is to fast to notice and the screen appears cleaner and sharper. Let me know if the alt. drv's worked for u, they were much better than the default drv's and ran smoother for me .... When I had an ATI card installed.
