View Full Version : Small competition => low PR

Unfortunately the tank sim market is only a very small niche. There is almost no competition on this market, because hardcore players will buy anything that is worth playing in this genre (e.g. I think most of us will buy both T-72 and SB2 PE). I'm sure the new SB will rock the market when it comes out, but that seems to be too far away in the distant future. I know you are working very hard on this project, and therefore you don't have too much time for marketing and PR stuff. But I simply don't understand why you can't release some NEW SCREENSHOTS, or some IN-GAME VIDEO footage???!! Just don't tell me its too difficult or takes too much time.......
you neglected the really big players here: militaries.
they're the #1 buyers of simulators, and we're only the bottom feeders.
on the other hand, that's why we get good simulations at all, and not "playable" arcades with M1s.
it isn't true for all wargames, mind you.

I know the fact that E-Sim is focusing mainly on militaries. But releasing a few more fresh material to the public wouldn't cripple the company at all.

Yup, eSim should be feeding us bottom feeders one new screenshot per day simply to keep us hooked and prevent starvation.

I don't see the point in releasing new screenshots if they don't tell something new. If there's a new vehicle, or a new landscape type, or better visual effects at some point, I'm going to tell. Screenshots are to illustrate visual improvements. If we have new options in a dialog box - uh, well OK, some of you would like it as well, I concede that.
But ultimately it's the question how much should we tease you as long as we don't give a release date? At some point teasing turns into torture, or worse yet, people start making fun of you (like "Duke Nukem Whenever"). We made mistakes here in the past, but at least we learned from them.

Hmmm? So there will be no food for the bottom feeders. I don't think new screenshots would hurt anything and it might help others who are not into tank sims decide to purchase your product when it is released. I don't consider it teasing or torture. I'd consider it good PR.
making jokes?
i thought we're beyond that already.;)

I don't consider anyone here "bottom feeders". You're customers. We see it as a necessity to keep our customers informed about what we're doing, as long as the information is newsworthy, and suitable for public release
Ongoing negotiations and contract work is newsworthy, but not suitable for public release. Delays caused by 3rd parties with whom we're planning to cooperate may be newsworthy as hell, but are even less suitable for public release (ruins any chance to remedy a situation, and ruins our prospect of finding a different business partner as soon as we become notorious for blaming others in public). Finding, and fixing bugs is not newsworthy. It's of the category "light was on in the cellar, ... and I switched it off". So what?
That leaves visual improvements - e.g. the addition of new vehicles, new concepts, new special effects, etc. As soon as they're no longer part of ongoing development work, they're also ready for the public. And once that this is the case, we'll publish them. :)
