We're definitely for it, but there's bigger fish to fry at the moment. But chances for TrackIR support are above average.

If the TrackIR 3 Pro is a “tracking device” that interprets head motion by reading the location of a “reflective sticker” and then interprets this motion as control input¹ it might be beneficial to have this added aid in playing the game, but in what way (Mahood 90)?

Sprocket, I was wondering if you could enlighten me on how you interpret the TrackIR operating with Steel Beasts. When you made the suggestion of its inclusion what positive advantage did you see it bringing to the experience of playing Steel Beasts?

I don’t use optical or motion-tracking devices though I’m strongly in favor of them, but to borrowing a concept from Ssnake, if this device presented any tactical advantage to its user and not everyone in a given multiplayer session had TrackIR then its use would upset the balance of the game. I’m sure this complication could be overcome but until then it’s a consideration that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Like you sprocket I’m looking forward to a time when devices in this family of hardware are common place.

¹I may not be clear on just how this device functions so please explain how it works if I’ve misunderstood.

In essence, it would spare you pressing a few hotkeys on the keyboard to adjust your viewing position. For example rotating your head is like moving the mouse to pan your view in azimuth and elevation. Moving closer to the screen would give you a slight zoom inside the vehicle to better read the instruments (but there's the Shift key as well on the keyboard to do that, so don't worry). Slumping in your chair would give you the buttoned view, and straightening your back would lift your point of view to the unbuttoned positions. Again, these functions are already there and tied to hotkeys. The only new thing that TrackIR might give (which cannot be properly modelled with keyboard and mouse) would be the compensation of roll angles since you could tilt your head into the opposite direction. But I seriously doubt that this would give the TrackIR user a distinct advantage. No - it's just a more natural way of adjusting your point of view, nothing else.

Thank you for the corrections and the explanation, I now understand how it works better than I did before.

if i got it right, start working on the woodwork skills, people!
it's time to build yourselves a hatch!
if you wouldn't do that, then having your back straightened all the time will have its toll.
