View Full Version : Leopard coax mg
Just wondering why I have to wait for the loader to load the main gun before I can fire the MG.

I'm GUESSING that it could be related to the loading position. I'm not sure if that actually blocks the MG, but this would make sense, as the bullets would miss anyway.
I remember I wondered about this myself some time ago, but it's been so long since I played(damn joystick  ), so I've forgotten the conclusion...
By the way...your nick doesn't by any chance mean 211-3?
Thanks. That does make sense. Dont know why I didn`t think about that.
But you will be able to fire, but you will miss. You should be able to switch of the loading pos. i SB as i real life.
My nick does mean 211-3

Remember that we're driving Leo2's in SB, not Leo1s. The solution might not be the same on Leo2. (I'm not sure whether or not loading position will give you a fire block; too long since I've been on a leo)
Which year were you on 211, btw?
Greetings from 112-1 2002-2004.(Cav, not armour) :)
I was on 211 from 2003-2004 in cav.

Small world. I have a strong suspicion I actually trained you in Leo gunnery after basics..?
Jeezes. The world is small. I remember it was esk1 who trained both esk1 and esk2 in leo gunnery.

One way to over-ride the coax blockout while the Leo2 auto-loader is engaging, is to put Leo2, in "emergency mode" and you can coax while reloading takes place.. But, once the loading has been completed, you have to quickly, jump out of gunners slot, (virtual mode I think) and then jump back in gunners slot for normal operating systems to work again..

the reason for the weapon system to block the coax during loading position is that the coax is mounted next to the canon and points the same way. So if you fire it it will go miles over the target. and just to be complete. LS when you go to emergency mode in the real world. the loader must fire the coax so you still have to choose between a waiting period of max 4 seconds or fire the coax.

What's the physical explanation for the conflict? What happens while the loader is loading that has the MG pointing a mile too high?

Since the MG is mounted coaxially, it follows whichever movements the gun make. When the gun enters loading position, it enters a set elevation to make loading easier.(Breech goes down, gun goes up) As a consequence, the MG will be off target. This does not affect the GPS in normal operating mode, so the gunner can still track targets while the gun is loading.

However, I think we made a mistake here in SB1. If the gunner selects coax (HW/MG switch) while the gun is in loading position, it will move back into firing position immediately. I'll have to check it with the current version, but if we made that mistake, it has been corrected in SB Pro by now. :)
