Assisting new people with MP is a good idea, why don't we have a newbie night, once or twice a month?
Might be worth it to make one or more of the weekly TGIF/TNT sessions 'newbie night'. Great way to break the ice, kill some tanks, and learn something about how to play in MP.
Good idea, LS.

Well Shot, this post really wasn't my idea, in that, I was just browsing thru the Main Menu, far left upper column of our forum, and clked on Online Play, then MP Game Info, and read what you read, cut and pasted part of it, and changed the days that are listed in that part of the forum saying what days and hours are best for MP.. Seemed a bit out of date IMO, so I tweaked it for the current busy nights, and Saturday, ATP (Across The Pond) series that puts the USA vs Euro, at such a time that it's early evening over there, and mid afternoon, over here.
The idea of a newbie game nite has floated in my head also, for a long time.. My thinking would be simply, 2 SB Vets, each takes CO A slot, then gives out his units accordingly as needed, without getting into the hunt, unless his Co or Xo tank is pushed to fight.. and let the rookies learn to route, use OW while otw to different set BP's, use of TS, or typer, call their own artty, etc.. to learn by doing what's right and by what they did wrong thru AAR's.. along with our inputs pre-battles, and post battles..
Something like that..
This could be done once a week, if we could get several of the SB vets to take charge, in that, one week, it would be, say, you Blue, me Red, Co's.. then the next week, 2 other Vets, and on.
That way, the newbies would get the best, from all of those Vets involved in it.. Kinda like in flying, what one instrutor forgets to show you, another one will..
Let's see what kind of reponces come within the next week or so, both from newbies, and from other SB vets, in being part of some kind of program for newbies..

That works. I'll volunteer a night a week (Friday would work best) toward this worthy endeavour.

Hi,
I am a new member of this community and an inexperienced SB-Player( I purchased the Gold Edition of SB
only 3 weeks ago). I would be welcome to take part in a MP Game but I don`t think I am already good enough.
I would appreciate the chance for some kind of MP-training for newbies like me!
Greetings

Welcome aboard Ps.. congrats on SB gold find.. it's the total SB1 pkg, rdy to go for online MP.
Just read, do the tuitorials, and practice in Single Player mode..
Gonna give this thread alitte time to see more responces, but it will only take a min of 4 newbies for a program for the above mentioned Vets to put together any, of many, small 1 company sce's that we have, for 2 vs 2 with 1 CoA each side as well..
I'm thinking either as Ren said, Wednesday nights OR Sunday afternoons, here in USA, as it is early evenings Across the Pond in Europe..
Any questions just ask, along with, get hooked up to SB team speak or SB chat, around 6pm-9pm Euro time, as, myself (early am hours USA, California time) and Wahrborg, Trekker, Joe, Riper, and others from Europe, are in SB Chat most every day around those times..

Welcome. Cool handle, by the way.
I'll make a commitment to be here next Friday, though if you want to get in a game sooner I can maybe do that, depending on the timing. Should any more new folks show up we'll see about doing something Friday, if necessary in addition to 'Schreck and I getting his hands dirty.
BW, there's nothing new about you. :)
Or me, for that matter.

8) Ok, LS puts his French thinking cap on (backwards) and unwinds BW's sense of humor..
 This means, that you will take CoA slot vs Ren's CoA team, on Wedneday nights and take him and his newbies down the road of destruction, along with pre-stamped envelopes to mail back their arses

This is a good idea Ls, maybe a range night also would be helpfull. I and a few others could run such a mission for our new people to bring them up to speed in gunnery as it applies to MP?
A range night, is it wanted or possible?

Indeed 12A, like my many flight instrutors, each had their own special areas, that the others didn't push as much, and I got the best from many..
Can I assume, both a static range at both static and moving targets, and also, a moving range, for shots on the move at both stationary and moving enemy targets, and GAS exercises, etc..
Pick a day, as it looks like Ren and BW's are gonna go for Wednesday nights, Shot's lookin at Friday nights, and I'm looking at Sunday afternoons for both USA and Euro/Across the Pond newbies around mid day here, early evening there.. **
** Any day is fine, as I see the schedule being very flexible for the best results for each instruction area/s and for best turnouts, thru open scheduling a week in advance.. something like that.. lol
Just thinking on your wise offer, I also see shooting in and thru smoke, among many other shooting skills one needs to be a total pkg team player, in this sim..
Even I would attend, as I know ya can teach an old BD new tricks.. hehehe

Could be TH, and now, as then, it will all depend on how many SB newbies respond..
As I said, gonna wait a few weeks to see the responces from both the Vets and newbies, and right now, from the Vets side, it looks real good.. But I wanted to change the title of this thread, to draw more attention and our goal, for newbies, but I can't.. timed-out. So, I will contact Sean and see if there is a way to let me go back in Edit, and change the title some.. and if not, then I will start a new thread..

Don't feel bad. Trekker is definitely one of the best players playing SB right now.

Just for the record to anyone new to MP;
YOU WANT to play MP. In my opinion, MP make seven the SP seem like second class, and that should say something. MP with Steal Beasts is some of the best fun you'll ever have. I play first person shooters a lot too, and Steal Beasts is seriously great fun, especially with the strong community behind it and devoted members. More importantly peoples' willingness to help and give a lending hand. Its a good MP community to get into.
At first you will be frustrated. (Relative to how much SP you have played). Its easy to get knocked around at first, but don't despair! Hang in there until you get your barings set and you'll be off the races and loving it. I remember getting bounced around pretty badly at first, but with some advice and the AARs (after action reviews) you quickly get a handle on things.
Again; the multiplayer (MP) experience in the steel beasts community is INTENSE. If you have the time to do it, then DO IT. Don't shy away, you'll thank me for pointing this all out later! 8)
Why is it so great? ITS FUN! REALLY REALLY FUN!!!! Simple as that.
Ludwig.

Gentlemen,

Dude, pay attention to the after action reviews. See what you did wrong where you got hit from, where the guy likes to hide, his avenue of approaches. Do that a few more times with a few other players to take in a broader scope of different tactics, and you're set.
You'll be inflicting damage unto Trekker's tanks in no time. No promise that you'll be able to totally whipe him out with no losses, but keep to your guns and soon enough you won't be the sitting duck you may have been the first time around. Even just being a thorn in an experienced player's side can feel great.
Ludwig.
P.S. Does anyone recall (specifically the person in question) one of my first games.. would have been shortly after I joined the community.... we played a game, 3 on 3 or so, and it was really hilly terrain. And in my fear of having to move and being seen and blown away without even knowing where its coming from, it only being my third game or so, I just hid at the bottom of hills, and managed to destroy a bunch of tanks as they came rolling over hills from the bottom of those hills. The player who was on my side of the map was then, and is now one of the predominant players... I think I remember who it was, but I dont want to rustle any feathers by telling the story of how the newbie (me) actually held his own against one of the champs. Man steel beasts is HOT.
