One Reinforced Armored Cav Company must react to an attack by an Understrength Motorized rifle Battaltion.
400 points possible.
Likelyhood of getting 400 points is almost nill.
While it will be easy to hold one objective it is very hard to hold all three objectives. Keep in mind that while you get points for gaining each objective and for destroying enemy units, you also lose points for getting friendly units zapped.
A good points total to shoot for is 250 points total. Just for kicks we'll call 200 points passing. ;)
The scenario is available here:

Rogue, that map is on the SB CD, it just wasn't included in the initial download. Put the CD in your drive, explore it and dl the maps to your SB Height Maps folder. Et voila!

Like the scenario GS. Just spent 44min 40 seconds taking the towns only to throw track when I was maybe 100m from the final objective. Spilled my friggin beer too! Well, another one will cure my woes. I musta've taken too long using the grunts to clear the towns.

Thanks Rogue6g!
I am gonna revise the scenario shortly to allow for more possibilities for Redfor.
right now only a couple of things can happen for Redfor. So in just a few games the scenario will play itself out. The revised version will be harder I think. ;)

Looking fwd to playing - needed the new heightmap and when I explored my SB Gold CD I can't see any folders, just a massive CAB file and some smaller stuff. Are the folders hidden - or does my CD differ from the one described earlier in this thread? I checked the FAQ before posting this... but no dice. froghop169@hotmail.com. cheers - RS

Downloaded "Flash Traffic (Single Player)" from "Last added downloads" section, thanks. Opened it up in the mission editor. No routes plotted for red? ?
GsMcAmis
03-03-2003, 04:57 PM
I locked the redfor side with a password. ;)
normally I wouldnt do this in my scenario's but for this one I have a plan to continuously update the redfor routes etc in order to keep the scenario fresh.
I intend to use common elements that aren't exactly trade secrets (cause, especially for now, they aren't very complex) from the current set-up in future set-ups. This way the scenario will always play somewhat the same as the previous version but throw in something different as well.
I figure the best way to do this is keep all you guys guessing as to exactly what types of routes I have set up for redfor.
Sure you can see them do stuff... but what exactly are they doin? ;)
As a further note: The map featured in Flash Traffic is also the same map I use for Battle Dogs. I am going to fill the larger map out some more and post it in the download sections for everyone to use. By the time I am done it will have 4 or 5 ready made area's on which you guys can build scenarios on. Eventually I hope to fill teh entire map out in such a way as the areas blend together seemlessly. But thats gonna take ages... so bear with me.
Thanks for teh input jlh!

Hi GS, played FLASH TRAFFIC last night, got 322 points but ran
out of time before I could nail everything  I think I was maybe
a bit too cautious.
I liked it, great fun, looking forward to other incarnations, love the map. :D
Can someone help me out here? Downloaded "Flash Traffic (Single Player)" yesterday (and again today just to make sure) from the "Last added Downloads" section. Opened it up in the mission editor (I've been doing this lately, not to cheat, I like a challenge as well as the next guy, just to make sure I don't waste my time playing 30 minutes in a HTH scenario). I could open up the red side. There were no routes plotted.
I went back and played the scenario, capturing all 3 objectives within 5 minutes without firing a shot simply by racing there as quickly as possible. (This does look like a great map!)
Is it possible that the HTH scenario accidentally was put under the Single Player title? I downloaded the two HTH scenario versions and checked them in the mission editor just to make sure there hadn't been a mix up. They are HTH. Thanks!

JLH,
What version of Steel Beasts are you running? Is it current?
If the Steel Beasts version is up to date then you shouldnt have any problems and the only other thing I can think of is perhaps the download corrupted.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks!

Ok I am at a loss to explain why some of you got the correct version and some of you got the HtH version... very odd indeed.
Regardless I am going to figure out what has gone wrong and fix it so as not to repeat the gaff.
No doubt it is something I have done wrong lol.

GS, did you call both versions by the same filename? I just clicked on the Flash Traffic -Single Player link and got a file called Flash Traffic.sce. If we're all downloading this into our Downloads directory, it would get overwritten by the MP version every time we play the MP scenario.

HH,
Rgr I saw that too... no the single player version is called FlashTrafficSP... and I swear it was where this file is for some amount of time... otherwise how would Crusty and Rogue6 been able to play it and report scoring etc??
I gotta tell ya... I am really bewildered about how this happened. I know I didnt update it or anything else between now and the time I posted it originally. Heck, in fact for the past few days I have been having cable problems that have all but prohibited my ability to monkey with all things internet.
But how the hell did this happen? lmao
It borders on para(X) X=noid X=logical X=military?!?!?
:casstet: Anyhow I fixed it and the file is there now...

Well 299 points on my first try, I only got one kill of a tank, the rest of the 16% killed were by arty, I guessed the likely ambush points and started pounding them. I didn't realize at first it was a timed game and had ordered my units into ambush of the southern crossings, had to change tactic's quickly when I saw that there was a timelimit. Didn't start bouncing the enemy until the last 10 minutes, and they did get two of my tanks in that time, so my luck may not hold next time. Thanks

Da Comrade!
What is the glory of war if it can not be observed through the haze of distilled potatoe?
A toast to the glorious comrade Smirnov! Salute!
In other news:
(S&S)Two scouts associated with Task Force Colin were sentenced to 5 years inprisonment and a $5000 dollar fine for accepting alcohalic beverages from a BTR80 crew in return for safe passage out of the battlezone. The sentence was suspended as the two scouts later "altered the contract" and called HE in on the BTR's position. According to Captain Brogley, spokesman for Task Force Colin, "Well... we probably woulda over looked the whole thing had the perpetrators not yelled 'SUCKERS!!' over the battalion net at the end of their Fire command." Sources close to TF Colin say that a review of radio procedures as well as a redistribution of so called "liquid recreational units" will be held tomorrow at 1300 hours local. All comany personel are required to attend.

The next version of Flash Traffic (Single Player)
Version 1.1
Whats new:
Same as original Flash Traffic for the most part except...
t-72's are now t-80's (H.E.A.T. eating chesire cat with white bleech coating under a black-light<--GS's Grin)
Time Limit reduced from 45 minutes to 40 minutes to facillitate a better approximation of what you can expect in scenario length in Steel Beasts 2.
Redfors routes have been overhauled to offer alot more replayability.
600 points are now possible instead of 400 points (more emphasis has been placed on the destruction of RedFor as well as the preservation of BlueFor units.)
And one or two other nasty surprises. ;)
This new version allows for some games being easy sweeps and some being downright difficult.
Just for kicks passing is now 250 points but it would be best to post the averaged results of 6 games to get an accurate look at your totals.

I just got slaughtered again! in the Leo/Marder Flash Traffic. OpFor moved into Sublime at the last minute with two tanks, all I had nearby was a section of infantry behind them, I moved into position with their asses of the T-80s showing clearly and the infantry would bob up with their RPGs and drop and repeat they never fired. waiting for the tanks to see them and shoot, what a waste, I would have held two Objectives............................. arrrghhhhh!!!! Good Game :D
How about a section of Jaguars?????

GsMcAmis
03-10-2003, 02:05 PM
Ty sir....Rgr they are coming... new editions of this will be released in the next few days.
Hence the password protection. I am aware alot of you like to see and be able to tinker with the routes etc. I in no way consider that cheating or even cheap, quite the contrary I consider it a valuable way to determine where you went right or wrong. But I intend to release this scenario over and over again in order to keep the scenario fresh... in other words the objectives will always be the same but the way the Redfor attacks the area will change... as it is now Flash traffic v1.1 has four completely different ways it plays out (in regards to main unit routes).
The Flash Traffic map is a part of a greater map that has three different complete zones on it and I intend to release that entire map this week too. Eventually I will fill out the greater map (it will take ages to do) but for now I think three finshed areas are enough to give hopeful scenario designers something to start with as well as give some "hands on" demonstration as just what goes into making those maps (its a labor of love and isn't for everyone... I just happen to get my rocks off making them for some reason.)
I suppose I could do this though, all but the most current version of Flash Traffic I will unlock the RedFor side and re-post it. look for the first version to be unlocked tomorrow around this time.
Thanks alot for the input... it's fuel for the turbine. :D

Progress on Flash Traffic so far:
1st run: 231. There were rivers of blood and mountains of skulls; I tore up a huge push from the northwestern corner for the cost of one damaged M1, but in the south I put a BP too far forward and a whole platoon of M1s oozed over a crest. 4 dead M1s, 2 dead T-xx. :casstet: In the end I had the two western objectives pretty securely and 51 kills but had lost too much stuff.
My focus next time (as usual for me) will be trying to get better value out of my legions of Bradleys. Once they've unloaded their troops, I don't have a clue what to do with those damn things.
2nd run: 255. Evidently I didn't learn very much. Red held back their reserve instead of committing it to the north, so I was able to get in on objective Halo and do severe damage to the incoming tanks. The Bradleys did more damage than before, but not significantly; my next try will be with a heavy group in the south to put the reserve force in a vise.
3rd run: 0. AI impaled itself on minefields until I quit in frustration.
4th run: 344. Three M1s and a truly inspired ICM strike shredded the northern attack, while I launched a 5-tank spoiling attack across the south. They arrived just as the eastern thrust was made and were firing at just over 3km, but still tore the guts out of that attack and pursued it relentlessly the rest of the game. I ended up with all three objectives. Next time I'll gamble with the south group and drive hell-for-leather (whatever that means) to get into position before the main attack starts.

well I went into the mission editor and checked which version it was, you guessed it
I'd played the HtH version. that explains why I actually acheived something.
downloaded the right one since and I'm constantly getting my arse handed to me on

minor victory/victory(very) occasionally, but with the German version, no way.

I added a section of Jaguars to support the Marders, sent them forward to block the advance, swung my armour around in a flanking move to the South and then around behind what I thought was the bulk of the OpFor forces, started to shoot up their rear, when all but one my tanks went KaBoo!!! I managed to say.....What the F....! before they were all gone. OpFor reserves had arrived right behind me and sliced and diced my armour. :casstet: The Jags & Maders/infantry put up a good fight, but the battle was already decided by then, I won't even mention the score. Oh well there is always tonight!!!! :D

hehe... see this is why I make scenario's... it pays back everytime.
Just in case you guys were feeling blue about getting your butts kicked...
In the DE vs US opfor version I get my arse handed to me everytime (Come a hair away from winning it once... once!).
In the Us vs DE opfor about 50% of the time I lose.
In the versions where the Opfor is Soviet equipment I usually win (although occasionally I misjudge which option has triggered and get whipped)

Very sneaky.... I was playing the DE vs. US opfor version last night. As my lead tank slid through an intersection, I found myself face to face with another Leo. My TC gave me a fire command, but the situation caused me to pause. I did fire and kill the rouge, but my delay allowed an M1 down the road to engage me, blowing my turret 30 feet into the air (I hate that). Thanks for the surprise.

I scored 408 points. I found that putting the xo's and co's tanks in good sniping positions. Makes a big diff.
And marching at high speed to hull down pos south of flash, and ambushing the enemy as he heads to halo. Also works well. Great scenerio. :)

If you can sneak a tank or brad up onto the hill overlooking the battlefied from the east (righthand of map?) you can make the OpFor suffer badly, just watch out for transiting bad guys coming out of the woods, there is a little dip south of the peak which is safe. If you put your XO they can really do damage with arty. I had to add 5 minutes to the game for any of my plans to work, kept running out of time to occupy the postions after duking it out with the enemy. I still enjoy this scenario a lot. Thanks GS
