we talk all the time about what we do with the forces we have. what about the makeup of those forces? what is the number and kind of units you would like to use for:
Recon.
Assault.
defense.
balanced.
what is the reason of your selection of units. keep in mind that you cannot have more than a battalion at most.

Depends alot on the terrain.

If I am in a situation in which I am to advance through a large amount of woods I am going to want more squads of well armed infantry that I have of individual tanks. On the other hand if I am going to advance through open terrain, then a plt of M113s may be a good idea to have along with tanks. Mixed terrain calls for 2 plts of Brads and a plt + command section of tanks.

what i always want to see is at least one mech inf platoon for every tank platoon. that would be my assault force and balanced force. for recon i would like about one platoon of scouts (HUMMERs), one platoon of AT vehicles and one platoon of troops in each Recon Platoon. HE and ICM would have their place in the attack. i would use arty offensivly with the intent to kill enemy units.
on the defense i would like the mech inf ratio to tanks to be 2:1. recon would be handled by several platoons of light inf. AT assets will be used from good BPs in support of the tanks. here HE set at Top would do fine. FASCAM and mines are very useful. ICM would be harder to use because you need the enemy to stand still, but HE/Smoke is more useful. arty would play as an obsticle delaying an enemy and breaking his lines.

I like to go with 2 tank Platoons, and one platoon of brads. alonh with CO and XO in tank.
10 tanks, 4 brads is enough to do most jobs, nice balanced force.
