Battle Dogs
Armored Cav Troop
Responds to a North Korean incursion into the DMZ

Just after zero hundred hours last night, forward observers began reporting enemy troop movements into the DMZ. As the morning dawned it became evident that the North Koreans are intent upon holding key objectives in the DMZ in order to pave the way for a full scale attack if tensions continue to rise. Most likely the north Koreans feel a little saber rattling will force our governments into talks in which they intend to dictate to us the terms of a nuclear armed Communist Korea. We have a little surprise for them. 3 weeks ago the President ordered a full scale offensive in the event the North Koreans made any incursion into the DMZ. It just so happens they have made their incursion into our area. Gentlemen, taunting time's over and killing time is here.

Your Mission:
Proceed across Departure Line HellHound and take up positions along Phase Line Nebelwerfer. Cross Phase Line Knebelwerfer and proceed to destroy all forces occupying Objective Cerberus. Once Cerberus is secure, move up to Phase Line DemonDog. Cross Phase Line DemonDog and Secure Objective Sirios. Occupy and control Sirios and Cerberus within 40 minutes in order to shock the North Koreans into retreat. Destroy every enemy unit you see but do not proceed past Phase Line Rabid.

Your assets:
1 Armored Cav Troop (National Guard Units from Tennessee and Texas)
You have been given Top Priority on all artillery assets we have available to us except FASCAM of which there is none available.

Scoring:
Cerberus: 150 points
Sirios: 150 points
Points added for percentage of enemy units destroyed.
Points deducted for friendly units lost.

Good Luck and Have Fun!

Played the sce., liked it.

* The map is beautiful, a feast for the eye and made up of a good mix of tankcountry and infantry-country.

* But most important, it's not too big : out of the whole 12 X 12 km map, GsMcAmis o*nly used a third.
Therefore doing terrain-analysis still is doable. It's much more time-consuming to do this for a whole 134 kmē.
Also planning routes for your units is reduced, when you have less terrain to cover : there are less possible avenues of approach, there is less key terrain that you have to take in account, less possibilities to be flanked.
So, although you have to plan routes for 3 coy's (+), it still remains doable.

On the minor side :

* Too much arty (top priority) and too good ammo for Blue versus Red for my taste (you can change this in the mission-editor).

* The briefing is a bit too sketchy. Maybe mention that no enemies should be encountered before PL Nebelwerfer to avoid players losing time by scouting towards it (cfr. 40 min. time limit). Maybe give some slight intel about Red forces (cfr. traditional NATO-Opord), …

* The Red positions seem to make sense, but Red doesn't seem to have different battleplans. Can't really judge it though : alas, the Red side in this SP-mission is password-protected.

Basically, the mission doesn't really contain a tactical challenge for Blue ? It seems to be a matter of, line up, advance and attack straight o*n, especially since Red doesn't try to counterattack, or do something unexpected.

Just thinking aloud : wouldn't it be more of a tactical challenge if eventually Red would do a counterattack ? Then Blue - taking this possibility into account - would 1) be forced to have a reserve at hand to counter any Red attack & 2) would need to judge the right time & place to use this reserve.

Still it's impressive to watch the Blue attack unfold, 2 or 3 coy's in line. The cinematographic qualities of the terrain make up for minor flaws of this mission.

I uploaded a .pln-file with my plan for Blue :
* Blue is organized in 3 coy's (1 tk.plt + 2 brad/M113) - The Hummers from D are scouts (but they die early) - CO/A & XO/A cover the scouts.
* All 3 coy's move immediately to PL Nebelwerfer, in hiding positions.
* T1 : Coy "1" attacks from the right side.
* T2 : Coy "2" attacks from the left side.
* T3 : Coy "3" - situated centrally, between Coy "1" &"2" - follows Coy "1" (attack from the right side).
* T4 : Coy "3" follows Coy "2" (attack from the left side).
* T5 : Coy "1" (and eventually "3") attacks from Obj. Cerberus to Obj. Sirios.
* A problem with this plan : due to the many ditches present in the terrain, I ordered most advance to be dismounted (slow speed), which will make you fight against the 40 min. time limit …

Best regards & thanks GsMcAmis, for making this scenario,

Koen.

BTW got no idea about this transport thing.

Ty Koen for the Review :) glad you liked it.

This is going to be like Flash Traffic... continually updated.
lol I didnt mean to include my "test" plan in the upload... odd that I did that.

There is a counter attack built in for RedFor as is (in fact there are two)... every red unit has 3 different plans. Hopefully if all goes well I will be enhancing those later this week.

The Brief is dfinatly sketchy.. I am not the best at writing those suckers up :)

Very happy you liked it and definatly appreciate teh review... again will have updates in a few days. :)

Enjoyable set of SP.SCE's....GS.

Must have played Battle Dogs and Flash Traffic a dozen times each, and each time I've had my chassis handed to me piecemeal, which just goes to prove you can't just put SB on the back burner and pick up where you left off, seriously need to get some practice in, a trip back to SB armour school to get back up to speed....me thinks!..... :D

Mind you I think the first couple of times I got flame-grilled because I was to busy rubber-necking the scenery, ran out of time on a couple of occasions or generally saw the rest of the battle out from the hull of a burning hulk...... :(

Overall opinion:-
A nice couple of scenarios, Short, Sweet and just the ticket to get my tracks dirty again.

Thanks for the wakeup call, hope theres more like'em in the pipe line... ;)

Thanks RockApe!

Rgr they are coming I have the next batch almost completed. Wait till you guys try to tackle Flash Traffic with German equipment as Opfor... I even had my ass handed to me the first time through that so i suppose it needs a little toning down before its ready to release. I would engage a Leo and die a fast death... Forgot how much better the AI handles them.

Almost there with the updates for all scenes and a completely new one as well.

Huzzah!

GsMcAmis,

Could you upload the terrain-file for those 2 sce. ? (if not done already).

THanks in advance,

Koen.
