Yeah, yeah, I know...you guys have all done this back in 2001. It is a major victory for me, though. I've been working on the Tank Range for months and haven't even gotten close.
Well, I got a newer P4 computer and am getting more accuracy due to the higher framerate.
I hit 10 out of 10 on the range! Cool! I had to tell somebody....nobody around here cares!!!
I've been trying to get a handle on T-72 while waiting for the next SB to come out. The demo is a challenge.
Happy Holidays

Now do what i do. Everytime you are killed, delete your records and go back to the range and requalify...

AFP, congrats; that's one giant step towards the new battlefields of SB Pro..
You, and most of the rest of us, are gonna have to make a giant leap, in the near future however, to come up to speed with the Pro Beta Team members.
Watch for Pro Team members that sign up as AMPS instructors, soon after its release.

Better yet, work on lowering your average time per engagement. Below 6 seconds good, below 5 seconds better, below 4 seconds excellent. :cvcys:

Does that have any effect on the AI gunner performance? (assuming that my gunnery rating is 100).

Well, yes and no, IIRC, yes if your time is slow, meaning 10 sec's or higher, but there is a limit, meaning that, let's say my score was something like 10 for 10 at 4 sec's, but in real time, the AI gunner takes something like 5-7 sec's to really load, so, your time meaning, anything at or below something like 7sec's is the best that the AI is gonna see, or achieve. Only you, as the gunner, gain with faster times to aquire, and get the shot off in less time, as opposed to letting the AI take the shot.
Same goes for the accuracy: IIRC, even with 100%, the AI's best default for anyone, or host, for all is something like 78%..
Scratching my head.. lol

If the rating is 100%, then all gunners perform at the best level that SB has to offer. (Notice that there still will be misses on occasion since we didn't want to have unnaturally perfect gunners in the tanks). Plus, the difficulty rating will also influence accuracy and reaction speed of computer controlled crews.

I play T-72 as well. I had to get a major graphics card overhaul before I could play it. It was fun but it left me wanting.
To me... gunning is one of the best parts of the sim. It's an artform. Some days you have it and others you don't.
Last night I thought I would hone my skills on some of the tough practice scenarios and I really found myself sucking dirt. I wish I could get my hands on one of the cadillac controls... how much do they go for? My joystick is good but I can use any edge possible in multiplayer combat.
What's the longest range HEAT shot anyone has ever made? I think I hit a BMP-2 last night in SBG from 3200 meters. HEAT is difficult to master due to its higher trajectory and lower speed.

Yeah! My Dad in the cavalry always told me that HESH was not designed to be aerodynamic for long ranges!! LOL!!

You want to tell that to a friend of mine. He swore he put a 120mm Hesh shell through the commanders hatch of a Conqueror at over 2000 metres. Considering that was probably before he got a laser rangefinder, I find that pretty staggering.

During my last shoots with the ALMIGHTY Cougar, I could place a 76mm HESH round at a 4x4 foot target at 1800 to 2000 within 3 rounds. Mind you, the round flies at a Breath-Taking 533m/s. so at 2K it will take you around 4 seconds to see the Impact!
But During semi-indirect or indirect shoots (2K to 5K), the L23A1 becomes an Area Effect weapon! We could launch pumpkins at 1 every 4 seconds and saturate the trajectory with 3 rounds before the impacts happen.

LOL, that's awesome. Do-it-yourself artillery support.

Exactly. Actually, the Leopard 1 interior, once that it is ready, will show the instruments for this kind of employment.

But will it include a WORKING traverse indicator and a Quadrant Fire Control device? Can you actually do Indirect shoots? (like hide behind a forest or Hill, dial up the range and Azimuth and Launch pumpkins in SB Pro PE?)

Well... retired Army and a science teacher now with a physics background I can tell you that it is mathematically possible.... just highly unlikely... I would have to see the maximum range (both effective and non effective) of that HESH round. My Dad was a scout platoon leader in the 2nd Armor Div and I'm sure he'd be laughing at that story.

We shall see. The model is prepared to allow it, but whether Al will find the time to make it work remains to be seen. Of course, it would be nice to have it. It might actually be very interesting to have it for night combat missions (if you don't have a thermal imager) - provided that there actually was night available in the first place, of course.
The way I see it, we won't run out of work for the next years as far as upgrades and continuous improvements are concerned.

The round would travel at 670m/s and the fire control quadrant on the Challenger1 (same gun different tank) was calibrated up to just over 10000 metres. As a guesstimate I suspect the maximum effective range for an indirect static target would be about 2500 metres, with area shots a great deal above that. Agreed it was a lucky shot and not something he could do every time, but I think he did it more than once. Not on the same day though :)
Gunfighter, we should never have got rid of Scorpion and the 76mm gun, it was a good system, and its interesting to see how many countries including yours purchased the turret and hung it on something else. Incidentally if you are interested there is a company on ebay selling repro scorpion indirect gunnery manuals.Very interesting reading.
Oh, and sorry for going off topic, I think I have Tanknetitis.

I do not think it is a luck shot. My Unit's Winter Guncamps are held in a place with highly adjustable weather conditions. Yet we routinely hit Targets at 1800 directly with the Trusty L23A1. If the Boresight is correct (we Boresight our Guns at 800 and confirm at 1K) then hitting 1800+ (max range is 2K for statics) is a matter of fact. So long as we know the range, we could hit it in 1st Round.
As for the Scorpion Turret and L23A1, its a good system - yes. But there are better that are cheaper more effective and more Ergonomical.
Now back to the original Subject:
TRY IT using GAS and Manual Traverse and Elevation!!!!

Keep in mind that of the money that goes to me, 40% is tax to the German state. Unless there was a recent price drop for Pacific islands (I addmittedly don't follow the market prices with scrutiny), you may be overestimating the amount of money that we're making.
We can make a living, and yeah, we're not starving. And we're content with that, as long as it allows us to do what we like to do. To me, that's happiness, and to that extent I am, indeed, a very happy person.
:)
Thank you all for allowing me to do what I like to do.

As Gunfighter said, try using the GAS with manual traverse and elevation, and the mark 1 eyeball for range estimation ( read guesstimation ).
Those of us who had the honour of being the gunner in the Canadian Forces
AVGP Cougars during the last 20 years or so know what it takes too get a first
rd. hit at 1000-2000 M during a snow storm or heavy fog, let alone a second,or
third rd. hit
