I am in the US army and have been stationed in Germany for 3+ years and have yet to have an opportunity to qualify for one, and leave in march. Can anyone help me out, please!!! :present: :casstet:

Schutzenschnur?

Oddly enough, it is theoretically possible to qualify for the German awards in the US. I had a crack at their even more unpronounceable sports badge back at the end of OCS in California.

Seriously, though, I'll be surprised if your Top Kick can't find out.

Schützenschnur (riflemen's proficiency braid, available in three olympic colors (bronze, silver, and gold)) and Leistungsabzeichen (general proficiency badge) are two German "lametta badges" for parade uniforms. Where are you stationed in Germany, and what would be the closest German unit nearby, or a German partner unit of your battalion. They would be the ones that you may want to contact - probably through your company commander.

"Leistungsabzeichen"

That's it.

That's the thing I couldn't remember to pronounce. Only 2 of 88 got it anyway, and I wasn't one of them, so it wasn't an issue.

I did this when I was living near Bremen while stationed up there with the 2nd Armored Division. The locals had their own firearms, all dialed in, and I had a crappy house rifle to qualify with. I didn't do very well even though I qualified as Top Gun in my training company.

Stupid crappy house rifles....

The Leistungsabzeichen not only requires shooting, but also a force march (20, 25, 0r 30km), and the Sportabzeichen made in the same year. So it requires a bit more time to get it than just popping a few rounds on the range. The Schützenschnur however could be achieved, although it requires a number of different tests that must be passed, which typically are distributed over several rifle range days. But it is possible to set all tests up on a single day.

Excuse me guys, but I had to do it, don't expect any translation ;)

But what Duffsabot actually means IIRC is a way to find the opportunity to stand for it, if anyone recently or native from Germany can help him? In addition to what Ssnake said in his first reply...

Tell me about it. I had failed the sprint, together with most of us, so obviously wasn't going to achieve any grade of badge at all. Yet, for some reason, I still decided to do the 30km march in four hours twenty-eight. I was the only tanker stupid enough to do it, everyone else that maxed it was infantry.

My feet did not appreciate me.

I almost drowned on the swim. "200m in six minutes? Can't be that bad, it's only 8 lengths..."

I am in the Hanua area. I was told that you "could" qualify in a weapons simulator, but needed the signiture of an O-6 from the Bundeswhor to sign the qualifcation sheet. Any one of any truth to that? I have access to the simulator, just not the O-6.

TheBiss - who were you with (and when) in Garlstedt?? I was A 1/41 from Jan 88-till the post closed (well, technically I was in the Base Support Battalion the last few months, but you get the picture)

I had two of the best weeks in my livetime in Camp Grayling/MI this year, so I try to help you.

Try this link http://rk-hanau.de/US.htm to contact the Reservisten Kameradschaft Hanau. They do a shooting and qualifying for Schützenschnur every year. Site is in english.

Hope it works, good luck !

Generally, your battalion or brigade S3 or German Liaison officer will have the information you need or be able to get it for you.
