View Full Version : How do you control IFV's/infantry?

There's no tutorial on how to control these units, so I'm completely lost. they mount and dismount whenever they feel like it and it feels like I have no control.

How do I seperate infantry from their IFV's? How do I bring them back together?

Do I have to manually issue orders to infantry? You can't make routes for them unless they are not part of an IFV/APC, it seems.

When you set a route for APC unit ,placing a tactic command at a check point will dismount infantry. Also if the unit is on an "engage " routethey will dismount as the unit attempts to fight another unit.Once they have won their engagement they will remount and continue on the previous set route.Hitting the "e" key will also dismount them.
Once they are dismounted infantry can be given routes just like any other unit and will behave independently as long as they move more than 500+ meters(?) away from parent carrier. To regroup them later just bring the original group back in proximity to each other.

Thanks mate.

Lets say that I want to engage a group of tanks at 3000m with my Bradley ATGM's. Will I have to see the infantry dismount every time, when all I really want is missles to be fired? And do I really have to move my infantry 500+ meters away so I can make the IFV's and infantry independent of each other?

No. You just stop the vehicle, wait for the launcher box to be raised, and pull the trigger. After the engagement you can either have the launcher reloaded, or proceed on your route right away. As long as you are in the vehicle, you can control the loading and unloading of the dismounts.

I still don't understand.

What do you mean "pull the trigger" and "have the launcher reloaded?" Since when was I responsible for firing and reloading my non-m1a1 units, or any unit for that matter! The Bradley fires his missles on his own and reloads on his own. There is no button for 'fire' unless you mean 'fire at will' and 'hold fire.'

What do you mean by "as long as you are in the vehicle?" Are you talking about F8? (which is hardly IN the vehicle) As for dismounts, you make it sound so easy. What you said about being able to control loading and unloading is a fiction in my mind, since the infantry get out and in whenever they feel like it. Every conditioned checkpoint results in infantry getting out. How can you guys make a game and not provide instructions on how to play it? Seriously this is making me really angry.

Ssnake is referring to Pro PE, I think.

In SB1, control over infantry is somewhat limited. What I do is usually park the APCs somewhere out of the way, and run the dismounts a little over a km away from the pc. Then they will be seperated and you can operate them independently. Getting the pcs and troops to fire when you want to is limited to mashing the E key and screaming at the screen.

Ah so the real world Armour / Infantry combat team co-operation is accurately modelled?

Yea, we've all had to dance the death-dance with the grunts.. lol but, FYI, if when you see a target, whether thru the bino's, or just in virtual mode, if you hit just the lase button, you'll see a down arrow, and they will start going to that point (it's moveable with movement of the bino's and another lase push.. And, if you see a target, center the bino's on it and hit the shift key and laze key at the same time, and you'll see something like an * right on or over the target which alerts them to it for faster responces/engaging ( sometimes.. lol)

Both those procedures work for all units as well..

This works sometimes, but i've also seen them decide to run up too close to the tank or pc and open up with the machine guns, which can alert it to your presence. Or, they will run up too close and launch their bazookas damaging the tanks/pcs but also killing themselves in the process.

:? yep, danced it many a times.. lol

The best use and control of troops I've ever seen has been Juan, Hector, and Trekker. They seem to have an edge controlling them..

I must find out how they do it :!: .. lol

Another way to make them move when they get close to the target is to make sure they move on assualt orders, under engage orders they are likely to stop and shoot all their ATGMs at trees.
