I'm playing the map Ambush as M1A1, and it's strange because if I do the flank option (whipping aruond the forest to the north) the area is a penalty zone. So the last time I did this mission using my own custom flank strategy, the M1's became KO'd, but no tbecause of the enemy, but rather what seemed to be the penalty zone.
So my question is; is this scenario flawed? Why would they tell you to flank the enemy as an option (other than static D) when that flank route will take you into a penalty zone?

 No, in the brief statements, it includes your assigned max boundry's and that to go any further out, leaves you open to friendly fire, or think of it as minefields, but either way, when you see dark lines, or the grey ---- line after it, that's the no-go area/s and you lose any units beyond those lines.
You can skirt the forrest to the E and the valley to the W within the black lines.. and flank
(maybe.. hehehe)

Yeah, that must have been a mistake in the sce - looks like the penalty zone runs into the flanking route the briefing talks about.

Hmmm, I just tested the Ambush sce., and routed half the platoon of tanks to the upper pre-layed E routes thru trees then N up to the point and around. I had them in a column, and they made it fine, no problems even with the intrusion over and beyond, a bit, with the black line.
After they made the turn W at the point, they where killed very fast, from the main enemy units still N of that point.. Best, if you decide to try and flank, put them on slow speed, and stop them just back of the point and tree end, along with use of a couple of the Brads moved N, one to the W side, and the other E, and let troops (routed from) set BP's for the Brads, to move forward to a LOS position that they can send enemy unit contacts to your map, then when they are beyond your flanking tanks, move them around and W and go for the kills..
So, just how far E , then N, did you re-route your units CA?

Maybe you have a different version of the Ambush scenario. But even then you can open the scenario in the editor, and adjust the penalty zone to free up that route...
