View Full Version : Need SB info!
Hi all,
Some months ago I got interested in SB2/PRO. I enter this forum requesting information about it. Now I´ve seen some videos/screens and... WOOOAooo!! Incredible!. Tired of "toy" games: (Battlefield2) and not very pulished ones (T72 Balkans on fire), now I´d like to know more about this...first impression...good SIMULATOR.
My main question is about the single player missions/campaign system?. How is it? and how good is it?. Scripted mission-packs, dynamic/semi-dynamic campaign?. Missions goals: capture/hold territories, kill enemy units, rescue missions??... I´ve tried to find answers in "Game Info Features" but the link seems to be broken :(
How about the building damage model? Can you pass through walls with vehicles? (important feature  )
It seems infantry plays an important role in the sim. I think I´ve read somewhere in these forums infantry´s A.I. will be reworked and enhanced in future patches. Is it right?. Will it be possible to recreate a real urban fight scenery?(for what i´ve seen seems to be already a fact).
Which is the estimated delivery time for west europe locations?
Thanks in advance,
Á.

Let's see if I can get this correct, based on memory. A search will give you all in-depth answers.
Campaign system:
- In thinking for game SB2. Not in any way materialised yet, and won't be within the next year or so.
Building damage:
- There will be some visual damage done on buildings. You can't pass through walls though, since that's not an important feature. (Getting stuck when accidentaly hitting a wall would be more appropriate.)
Infantry:
- Some AI enhancements (compared to SB1) as is right now. Major visual improvement later on, and some features added, like better control of their heavy weapons and ability to enter buildings.
- Street fighting isn't within the scope of SB (because of the emphasis on infantry) and I'd say that any attempt to recreate a complex urban engagement will fail to do so in a proper manner.
Deliveries:
- SB Pro PE should start shipping in a few weeks.
- SB2 might be ready by X-mas '07, if we're lucky.
Cheers

SB1 infantry reminds me suicide guys in Irak. Dont care about our live. Go on or die. Sorry, just die.
There will be some visual damage done on buildings. What kind of visual damage? Burning buildings?
Campaign system:
No campaign as far as I know for SB Pro PE... The game doesnt aim that kind of entertainment... This is a pure simulation.
ability to enter buildings. They will able to do so? right? Will they be able to fire from those buildings?

I think its very hard to create that kind of environment since lot of situation could happend... Im curious if it would be possible to create carbomb, IED or so... I'm sure it would be possible if SBPro or SB2 allows kind of script (in fact it would be a great feature allowing larger possibilities...)
i created a script simulating carbomb in OFP. It was pretty funny, especially in MP. When i decided to detonate the car, 10 arty shell (for more damage) were created under the car and imediatly exploded. Proximity (no more than 5 meters) explosion near APC and light armored vehicles were fatal. It was very painful near MBTs, but they survived though whithout crew injuries.
The funniest thing is that when the shell blew off (i drove at more than 80km/h), carbomb took off and flew away... I found a car at more than 3kms from the boom point...
For SB2, be not that hurry...

I can easily immagine a mission: "Survive the incoming carbomb assault."
By the way, will it be possible to create some vehicles to add like a MG or missile launcher pick up (very commun in Irak...)

I would hope not then the insurgency will be buying Pro PE and getting a first hand look inside some of the worlds hottest technology.Speaking of which Esims is taking security measures i hope-DL military ID background etc......

if i remember, terrorist used Flight Simulator right to train to attack WTC?
But i doubt we will find SBPro in Baghdad... Its cheaper to buy a RPG7...

So now, unlinked single missions only?. If so, how many does the game include? (BTW....I was talking about PRO version)

I was just joking

SB2 (which is going to be a game as opposed to the SB Pro simulator) is too far away for this issue to be dealt with.

So...from your words, not (even) a pack of single missions included in PRO version :?: :!: One have to build his own missions in order to play it?...ummmm...It sounds very disappointing :?

There will be some missions included on the CD. Im not sure how many (Ssnake have to answer that one), but the beta team have a bunch of mission designers who will have some of their work on the CD.
There are also alot of great scenariodesigners in the community, so after a week or so after the release i bet there will be alot of community scenarios available for DL here on sb.com.
Even better is that the scenario editor is somewhat easy to learn if you have the interesst, so you can make your own scenarios and put up here for the community to enjoy ;)

Thanks for the info Wahrborg...it sounds MUCH better  I´ll keep observant  . BTW, when you say "CD" I think you talk about the PRO version, right?.
One more question: will developers tell us about this and other features/updates in a near future, before the release?

Yes, Pro PE
Will TrackIR3-PRO (+VE) /4 supported?, after having seen the Leo2 video I think it should be a must!

It's not that we wouldn't like to add TrackIR support, but our devleopment time is at a premium, so we still have to concentrate on the bare essentials. Should a military customer express his interest in such a feature, we might see it in 2007.

As far as missions are concerned, expect about a dozen or up to 20 with the initial release, and probably another 20 multiplayer missions appearing for download here at this site shortly after release. Plus the 40-120 tutorials (depending on how you count them, as many of them are duplicates/minor variations for the individual vehicles which are modelled in SB Pro).
Ssnake, could you give me any information about missions structure?: types, goals, winning conditions, duration, save/load options, etc...I suppose they´ll be similar to SB1, but...I´ve never played SB1
Thank you all for your info,
Á.

JACN, the mission structures are pretty much limited by the scenario's designer. Don't worry too much about it. Figure on about an hour two two hours for a single-player game, unless you're just mucking around. No save option in the middle of a game.

You'd find assault and defense missions, patrol and convoy guard missions, ambushes (being ambushed and performing an ambush), breaching of obstacles, reconnaissance, and probably a bit more if I bothered to look up all the scenarios (which I don't). In other words, quite some variety. You'll find out that the mission editor is a very powerful tool and doesn't place too many restrictions on the scenario designer's imagination.
