View Full Version : What is the definition of "soon" ;-)

Remember when you were a kid and you went on vacation. You sat in the back of the car, for what seemed like an eternity, finally asking, "Dad, when will we be there?" The universal answer, stated by all parents in every era (colonial days substitute car for wagon), was "soon."
Fast forward to today, and the same kids, now parents, are asked the same question and give the same answer (knowing they violated some secret promise long ago never to do that to their kids....).
The interesting thing here is that the "parent" is telling us "coming soon" before we ask (I am ignoring the "guess when the game will come out threads.") I will ignore this slight breach of etiquette in hopes that unlike those many car rides in the past, this thing really really is coming "soon"...............................whatever that means ;)...

LOL! yeah I remember that I used to do that, when I will have kids I will tell them exactly when we will arrive. giving them the precise minute and second, but 30 minutes after we arrive :P
Ah, calm down... just a few more weeks, maybe a few months, not more I would guess. and Im sure you can stand to wait that time as well? right? :3starSK:

Whenever we asked "how long until we get there?", my Dad would always put his finger on the rear view mirror visually demonstrating how far we had come, and how far we had to go.
The left side of the mirror represented our origin. His finger represented our current position, and the right side our desitnation.
I'd say Ssnakes finger is getting pretty close to the right side...

That's pretty cool, I'll have to try that...
I just hope it's not Ssnake's middle finger... or worse, I hope he's not crossing his fingers (jinx).

When you say it's gonna happen "now"
Well when exactly do you mean?
See I've already waited too long
And all my hope is gone
The Smiths must have been waiting for SB1. :D

Surely with all the GPS and Sat Nav stuff in cars these days, kids can figure it out for themselves?
Or are they too busy watching the in car DVD system?
In my day ....

"What are we looking at?"
"We're looking at now, now"
"What happened to then?"
"We missed it"
"When?"
"Just now"
"When will then be now?"
"Soon!"

Was there something mentioned a few weeks ago about a pdf file of the SB Pro PE instruction book that would be posted for download by now? Perhaps not, I may have misunderstood.

jlh,
Yes, that was a move intended to placate the masses. As soon as the "gee whiz" of the videos/screen shots hit the hoi polloi, everyone when "oooooh" and "aaaaaah" and more or less forgot about the laurel of the manual-on-pdf-to-make-up-for-missing-the-promised-release-window.
I'm sure we'll look back and laugh one day, but for now, it's not laughter...

Yes, I promised the PDF, but instead Al decided to work on the dongle thing (which seems to work well, to the extent to which I could test it so far) and skip the work on the manual until after we settled all open issues with the dongle. Well, I think this is still in the best interest of everybody. It may not be the smartest idea to have an incomplete manual circling the internet since outdated files tend to keep a life of their own which simply cannot be controlled. Even if you take it off from a site and replace it with a new version, someone will post the old version, or send it by email to a friend, and then it causes all kinds of headache when the receiving friend contact tech support claiming that a certain point isn't covered in the manual. Nah. Better deliver a complete version along with the software.

Might I suggest it would have also been a good idea to just post a one line message telling us that when the change of focus occurred rather than some of us waiting for something that was never going to happen.
