View Full Version : TC Weapons?

Will the tank commanders in SB have a way to engage with their personal weapons? M-4's seem to be somewhat popular for use when hanging outside the hatch in the M1A1. In the TF-1-64 Thunder Run video you can actually hear the TC shooting with his M-4 at a truck at one point.
So, will weapons like that be included somehow?

I wouldnt imagine so.
I think the utility of that would be limited.
Who knows though?

I am curious as to why the leopard does not have a externally mounted machine gun for the TC?Poor design? What if you cant rotate your turret and you have infantry closing in?Do germans now abandon there panzers?Even the panther had a external Mg42 7.62.

Well, I know what I would do, but somehow I don't think that's SOP.

Leopards have a Loader's machinegun.
Some countries believe that a TC should be busy fighting his tank/platoon, not fighting a machinegun. Some don't.
The Japanese just split the difference and put the .50 cal on a Flex mount exactly between gunner and TC. I guess the TC shoots it to the left, and the gunner to the right.

Heh, if you've got crunchies in that close you'd better button up or already be hosing them with .50
One of my BC friends used to get the 240B up on the turret of his brad sometimes. I also saw him use the SAW on it's bipod a few times.

I think the only "topside" weapons we're going to be able to shoot will be the .50 cals. I was hoping for M240B action by crew but I seriously doubt that it will happen. Maybe in about a year and a half with improvemments.
No chance regarding M4 shooting. Make no mistake I'd love to see it too but PE is not Rainbow Six.
By the way... did you hear the rate of fire on the TC's M4? Either he had it on an EXTREMELY slow cyclic rate of fire or he was shooting with a very calm and methodical trigger pull. If it was me I'd just dump the thing on full auto and waste the magazine into the damned toyota!!!

At some point we'll need to think about it, but for the moment the employment of personal weapons is not possible.

Was that a training drill you did with your M4 or actual combat?

The animations that would be required for this would be outrageous.Frame rate killage-- firing from the hip while your vehicle is rolling.Keep it armored warfare. If I want a fps game ill go play Americas Army-which is fun but not to realistic.
Infantry computer combat will never be realistic in my book for the following reasons.A computer can't taste, smell or develop a 6th sense. You know that 6th sense that u develop when you've been in a firefight for any length of days.A pc cant smell a NBC agent even if you scripted it in....just my 2 cents.

Grab the override and Hip shoot the coax from the open TC hatch. With some practice you get good with it.

im more accurate with single shot/semi than i was with burst or auto and under than kinda stress its unreal at how calm ya can be

one other way to kill close troops could be:
-crush them
-be in a T-72 and ignite ammo which will pop up the turret and either crush ennemy troops or kill them with the blast. but there is a disadvantage: you may die.

Or fire the smokelaunchers. WP does the trick, or load the smokelaunchers with AP-grenades.

That what DREC is.

Well, the empoyment of personal weapons might make sense if the purpose of a scenario was to simulate some kind of close combat in restrictive terrain (e.g. a cramped city). But that's a special case and would need to have computer controlled units behave well enough to make such a scenario actually make sense. I don't think that we're there yet.

About the only time we ever kept our weapons up top were when we new we would be dismounting often/soon or were operating in a town/city. If you need to button up for some reason its just another piece of equipment you need to move inside the turret or risk being damaged. (i.e. Rifle, map/mapboard, PLGR, etc.) Within the city environment you just want to be prepared for dismounts jumping you from close proximity but in open terrain there's really no purpose that the coax won't cover. If you do happen to come up with a 'What if?' senario, keep the context in mind and you will probably see the answer for yourself.
P.S. In an above post I did mention my buddy using a saw and a 240 up top but that was in downtown Baghdad.

Well, if we cannot get personal weapons like the M-4 in here, and even though I would like to see that I accept that this is primarily a tank sim, and would rather have more realism in the oft used armor than little used M-4...
How about the use of loaders weapons? Use the same system as for the M113's.
No need to get fancy with a buttoned view either. Make the buttoned view be a clip-board with a list of ammo onboard or something simple. But it would be really great if we could get the loaders M-240/MG-03 to fire, even if it is AI only. Add a "Fire Loader Weapon" and "Cease Fire, Button Up!" set of commands...

I know there's a LOT of instances in which I'd like to be able to have the loader help machinegun some crunchies in the game. This, IMHO, would do a LOT to add to the realism and enjoyment factor.

Bit hard though if he is meant to be inside loading a HE round for the same target at the same time.
