I've been away a while. This is probably a stupid question, but is anybody playing T-72?
It's a great sim to play while waiting for SB Pro PE to come out.

Just my opinion... but that game is a total piece of crap and a waste of time. Unplayable until just before the holidays, you soon realize what a joke the game is. I too got it to tide me over and I wish I had of spent that money on something else.

Well I personally think its a decent tanksim. Sure it's not as realistic as SB, but its still very enjoyable & playable. The graphics & physics are great for a tanksim. There is only one thing that bothers me - the lack of interiors.
Btw, have you seen the new trailer for the game (made by me :D ...)? I'm planning to make one for SB PRO PE as well...

No way to play it.

That russian tank-sim is not as realistic and well-done in many aspects, but it has some good points:
1. destructable terrain for the usage of the plow
2. The inclination of the vehicle actually leads to inclination of the gps/reticle as it would in reality (although the gunners`seat would be inclined too, but then the landscape sould be inclined to be realistic)
SB doesn`t handle this right.
3. the tanks in that russian sim actually can be turned over as they would in real life, if the slope they are crossing is too steep. Try it with the hummer-jump-scenario in SB, it is impossible to do. Its like magic in SB. quite strange...

I played it for 20 minutes. Then used the CD for a beer coaster.Didn't like the fact it has SF.Also the graphics and gameplay felt very low quality to me.Like a game made 10 years ago. Then i visited the forums and saw all the complaints.
Then i fired up SB gold and it was like this GET some <chink chink chink> you want some cmon mfker get some....gunner sabot MRB muahha-it was on. 8)

Daskal, I very much enjoy the movies you have made. Thanks
As for the game, I pulled the plug on it about 20 minutes after installing, saw I wasn't alone, and laid low until a patch came. When it came in December, I installed it and found and extremely nice game, with some pretty tough missions. Not holding my breath, but I think we'll all hear better of it once there is internet support for multiplayer.

it should have been a blast corps game isntead, focusing on destroying buildings.
that woulda been helluva fun.

This is a tough crowd! The game had some problems but the patch fixed most of them. I'm enjoying it...but then again, I still like & Play ARMORED FIST!!! so you know I'm not the typical tanksim fan!
Balkan on fire is completely unrealistic compared to the training i had with the Leo 1 in Norway. The only good thing about balkan on fire is that it made me think about steelbeasts. That's why i check these forums almost dayly nowadays

I'll jump to the defence of T72 Balkans on Fire. I reckon it's a pretty good game (particularly when tanking games/sims are few and far between). The sounds definitely aren't up to the standard of SB, but the graphics are pretty nice, the explosions are excellent, the terrain is pretty nice and the deformability is a great bonus.
I also like the size of the maps and the long ranges you can engage at, as well as the details in the terrain - lots of bumps and unevenness for hull-down and turret-down opportunities. Quite an achievement by small Russki developers I reckon.
The experience of firing the main guns in the modelled tanks is also quite a buzz - a great bang and jolt and dust and smoke obscuring your vehicle for several seconds. In a fight with another tank, the air around your tank and the enemy is often filled with smoke and dust - it looks great.
It doesn't model interiors (you have a choice between external or through-the-sights style views) but I actually don't miss the interiors that much.
I fired it up again a couple of nights ago, with the latest patch. I get good fps from a fairly modest rig and it satisfies my tanking needs for the moment. I may retire it when SB Pro PE comes out (I reckon I'll be spending a lot of time in ASLAVs and other Aussie kit), but i reckon it's a pretty good product and well worth a look.
There's an English language demo available now over at Battlefront so you can try it out. I'm not entirely sure the thing has the dreaded Starforce (I've been lucky, I've got a few games with Starforce and have never had any problems with my PC, burner etc) - I'm in Oz but i don't know what version of the game we got shipped to us, but I've never seen the starforce disc checking screen when i play it.
cheers

It should be the same version globally.
They have only had those issues with the Combat Mission family with European legislation about calling "SS" units "SS".

... the terrain... deformability is a great bonus.

The experience of firing the main guns in the modelled tanks is also quite a buzz - a great bang and jolt and dust and smoke obscuring your vehicle for several seconds. ... the air around your tank... is often filled with smoke and dust - it looks great. These parts are what I've been missing in SB.
- Digging a battle position and trenches during play is a great option.
- The black diesel smoke when revving up the engine as well as the general dust and smoke created when firing the main gun seems very subdued, to say the least, in SB.
Otherwise I've only played the BoF demo, and in there don't like;
- the crappy AI driver.
- an AI gunner that shoot that chopper even if you tell him not to.
- the lack of multiple unit control. (As far as the demo goes. It seems like a typical scenario put you in control of more than one vehicle, but that very significant part of the game can't be evaluated in the demo.)
- some of the graphical details, like very sharp shadows and tree foliage hanging in mid air.
Cheers

What's a "looser"?
They are two different games, BW. Theres no reason why people cant enjoy both.

I agree with Sean there are very few TanK sims/games around at the moment and if I have enough funds then I would consider purchasing both items.
BoF sounds great for a quick blast and when I have plenty of time I will try to get to grips with the tactics and depth of SB Pro PE.
In my opinion the more tank sims/games that are available available then the better it is for me as a potential customer who has an interest in this area.

Well, at least we're going to see a couple more games this year featuring tanks.

The T-72 is just...Ugh!
What REALLY got me was the loading drills for the main gun, if I understand correctly, they were saying that you leave the gun UNLOADED then load when you have sighted a target?! Fine, sure...But it takes, like, FOREVER!

you don't have to keep the gun unloaded. you can load the gun at any time.

True Deja, im just saying I found the procedures kinda strange. BTW, will we have an option to unload rounds from the main gun in SB2?
I'm thinking along the lines of giving a way to swap back to a normal round from an MPAT, or from a normal round to a STAFF.

Double-tap the ammo selection, and the loader will unload what's currently in to replace it with your new choice. Low chances for STAFF in SB2 though since the project got canned years ago.

what bout mpat??? would be nice for a hull down leo
TankHunter

MPAT would actually not be much more effective. It has problems penetrating the frontal armor of a T-72, IIRC.

well it would work on alot of things specially ones ducked behind a berm
TankHunter

MPAT = 420mm RHA penetration
Front Turret on T-72 = 470-560 of RHA protection vs HC

well TH think about it........ it may accoring to u not take out a t72 but what about a bmp behind a berm or a marder or a brad or a 113 etc etc be nice to send a message over their head
Multi Purpose anti tank-ammunition (MPAT) has a warhead with approximation-fuse.
The projectile explodes, if it comes into the proximity of a target. It is an usable
tank-defense-weapon because an almost-hit is virtually just as good, like a direct hit.
As well, this projectile is suitable well, with the fight slow and at low altitude
flying helicopter.
even apers would be kool too

IIRC the proximity fuse is only used for air targets (such as that chopper that looks like it is about to send an ATGM in your direction). For use against ground targets, I can only imagine the problems resultant in the proximity fuse's use (also the HC would be useless, the last thing that you want when facing an APC). Also little, if any damage would be caused by fragmentation or the over pressure when it comes to AFVs. Also the “almost-hit” bit works, again, only against helos. Shrapnel does little to armor I would bet (Deja, or anyone else, can you tell me if I am mistaken), especially when the armor is in the tens of millimeters region. For neutralizing a target behind a berm, you might as well use sabot, call in for indirect fires or CAS.
