...

I got to say, once again, the Olympics are an awesome world-peaceful-venue to watch, and enjoy, the Victories of any that endure the (basically) one time chance at a medal, every 4 yrs.

It's just exciting as it gets.. IMO

Congrats to your country's athletics Luit..

Today, hopefully, it's Miller time.. lol (men's downhill)

I cant wait till i have something to post in this thread.

This is the last chanse for oure "golden generation" of hockey, to for the final time, again prove that they are the best team in the world.

Apart from that, we have pretty good chanses in Downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, curling and snowboard =)

I'm a Red Wings fan, so I'm kind of pulling for the Swedish team as well.

Should be fun to watch though. There is going to be alot of good hockey between Sweden, Canada, Czechloslovakia, Slovakia, and Russia.

medals for the fastest uphill skier

Actually, that guy would, IMHO, deserve a medal more than the downhill skier.

SB Olympic events: 1, 2, 5 km Drag races. Circle track races, Dirt and asphalt, 12.2km, and 4.5 km oval. Sprint race at an F1 track(BW's Suzon Valley maybe). Shot accruracy , Sabot Heat with and without the BC. And of course one on one eliminations in a ladder comp.

Curling is sport which is hard to explain and to understand thats why it is so much fun to watch. I've been spending days looking at curling matches and trying to understand what is people driving to brush a perfectly clean piece of ice...

I'll sum up the Swiss standings up to today:

1 x Bronze in the Men's Downhill - actually, looking at the current state of Swiss world-cup skiing, I guess we all can be happy.
1 x Silver in the Women's Downhill - that rocks! The girl who won was just barely over 20, and her grandma won Gold back in 1948.

Then today...

1 x Gold in the Women's Skeleton race - any women racing down an ice channel at 110 kph with her face 1 cm over the ice got more balls than I'll ever have!

1 x Silver in Men's Figure Skating - I'll just say I did not feel too happy having to watch men in tights performing jumps, turns, pirouettes. GAY!

And... the Men's Hockey team beat the current World Champion, the Czech Republic. Yeeee-haaaaw!

..O tempora, o mores!...

To say nothing of what is considered 'sport' vis-a-vis what the Greeks had considered 'sport'. Not that I mind, the Olympics are a lot more interesting now than they would have been, then.

Hmm... the Greeks did not consider Winter Sports as "sport", not knowing about the pleasures of curling. :)

However, the old olympic games were just as much pleasure as they were seen as preparation for war. Not to forget, there even was a good nationalim included in the games: This was a place to remember Greekness, i.e. athletes came from all over Greece, as well as Sicily and Magna Graecia to the games.

Thinking about the ancient Hellenes doing the Olympics in the Winter...

"Here's Anaxagoras, going well down the mountain... great line he's taking... he selected Timachos skis... great bronze & wood work... and here's the final leap... yes, yes... YES! Through before the rest (who, due to lacking time-keepers, have all started together) Anaxagoras is the winner! He will be cast in Bronze, by Lysippos!"

chrisotto
02-18-2006, 06:50 PM
:) - yeah, I'm turning chauvinistic slowly, with this great performance of Swiss athletes this year!

Though and hard game - the real star was goalie Gerber (NHL Avalanche, I think) - 45 / 45 perfect score. OK, admittedly, there was this one puck-behind-the-line-in-the-glove-thing... but the ref did not classify it as a goal. Anyhow, I myself was astonished how reckless and brutal the Swiss could be on the ice. 2 Canadians were left bleeding...

PS-SCUD
02-18-2006, 10:22 PM
Gerber was amazing. If you can stop 49 shots to shutout team Canada, you are doing damn good.

He actually plays for the Carolina Hurricanes, and is a big reason why that team is having a franchise record season.

As far as playing rough, I can't remember any playoffs where I didn't see a player on the ice bleeding. This is hockey not curling.

Bluewings
02-18-2006, 11:45 PM
Maybe ice-hockey players should have sweapers brushing the ice in front of them . They would have to brush fast mind ...

Cheers . :3starSK:

chrisotto

Carolina Hurricanes

Right - I just remember some meteorologic condition.

Playing rough might be common in the NHL, but I cannot remember the last time there was a fistfight in the Swiss National Hockey league. It's far calmer and less "brutal".

I guess the Canadians were expecting the "old" Swiss, and got suprised by a bunch of stinking, evil mannered and bad-tempered bearded Helvetic Warriors.

Wahrborg
02-22-2006, 07:55 PM
Yay!

Today Sweden won: 2 gold and 1 bronze :D

Oure hockey team also made it to the semi finals (sorry Switzerland), and oure wimmen curling team made it for the Final.

chrisotto
02-22-2006, 09:04 PM
Hmm... therefore, that our two countries get mixed-up the whole time, there are quite a few coincidents:

- We too, won today 2 Gold (Downhill Boarding and Free-Style Skiing) and... 1 Silver IN YOUR FACE, SWEDEN! (Snowboard, again)
- We played hockey today (and sadly, yes, the team was not up to that anti-Czech and anti-Canadian form)
- And we too, will have our women's curling team in the final... See you, then... muahahaha

Great games... and apart from the Austrian doping catastrophe, not that much bad news...

Damn, even Swedish curling girls had something to them. Boah. Cute-ish...

we won!! Ha Ha Chris

We already got a Gold Medal earlier (Downhill Snowboarding, Female), so we though it would be nice to give lesser countries that get confused with the great Helvetic nation a chance to hear their national anthem... :)

LOL,.. embarrassing really... it seems to be an ongoing confusion with Sweden & Switzerland. I can attest though to Swedens military insulated bottoms ( Americans call em "Long Johns" ). Those things will make you sweat if you're not out in the cold. The best !
