SBProPE arrived today. No problems with installation and the dongle. SBProePE has the graphics that I always wished SB1 had!
I was finally able to get a 100% hit rating at 5 seconds time to kill in the M1. It took more than a couple of dozen attempts though. The frequent restarts exposed a serious step back from SB1; agonizingly long load times. And it ain't my hard drive either. Why does it take so long?

Probably because there's a crapload more data and numbers to crunch. All those pretty graphics and polygons need to be loaded up.

Ya, Scrapper, it is normal. We all have the long load times. And it is because pf what 3S said. A lot more stuff to load.

However, I'm sure in 6 years SBPPE will load just as quickly as SB does now.

Hmmm.......I'm wondering if some of the loading files could be loaded upon starting the sim instead; while watching a splash screen.....kinda like a lot of other programs/games/sims.
I noticed that you can instantly load the sim from windows desktop without loading any files but all the files and data get loaded each and every mission start.
Couldn't the generic repeating files that get loaded prior to each mission possibly load at game start, then once your in, you only need to load the mission map/object specific files, like most other sims/games, thus speeding things up a bit?
K60 - for the most part thats what it already does. I do wish there was some way to cut more corners here though!

What about checking to see if the object is already loaded before loading it again? I'm not sure if PE is doing any cache checking.
If you run the same exact scenario twice, that will work. I think it does do that for some things, I know it does for the height map.

Apparently Sean doesn't do post caching though !!! LOL

No, he just trying to raise his post count :D
Bah. I've become a post count inflator.
...and it happens if you change a single bush on any map and switch to the preview (F1)...
and that's really "agonizing" in creating map, or who has the absolute inner vision of what a landscape will look like at 8x8 km with all details?
