Newbie questions

Hi, I´m new here, i just reinstalled the game and I think I´m far outdated here.

-Is there any Iraq or Gulf War mods, heights, terrains, scenarios, maps for SB?
-What are the Hot mods, utilities for SB?

To ensure you're up to date, patch your game up to version 1.226. There is a very good desert mod called Color of the Desert available, and a small number of scenarios intended for desert play. They include Desert Meeting, MTC in the Desert, Diamond in the Ruff, Medina Ridge, Battle of 73 Easting, and Bunkers.

The patches, and the Color of the Desert mod including the utility SBSkinner, are available in the Steel Beasts anti-frustration kit. Scroll a bit, and on the left side you'll find a heading for Online Play, and beneath it a link that says "New to Steel Beasts?". Follow that and enlightenment shall be yours.

If you want I can zip up a bunch of the desert scenarios in my collection and mail them to you. Medina Ridge and 73 Easting don't work very well IMHO because the authors tried diligently to make them realistic, and realistically the Iraqi tankers were completely overwhelmed. There weren't any "close fights" or "could-have-gone-the-other-way" tank battles on any major scale.

I remember a few years ago that there was a program that converted a .bmp? into the heights data used by the game but it was frustrating cause I could find real Iraqi maps or so...I couldn´t even manage to make the program works... :P

Do you know something about it?

Ok, I just e-mailed myself a reminder to send you my desert missions. Please bug me at jasonfahy@hotmail.com.diespammersdie if you haven't gotten them by Friday. (Do I have to tell you which part to remove? :) )

I know the utility you mean, but I don't know anything about it. You could go to the forum archives and do a search; the original threads about it are probably still there.
