How did the Iraqis organize their battle positions in the first gulf war? In other words, how were defensive positions set up by them? I am looking for info on company to battalion level positions. Thanks in advance.

In a generally triangular fashion, as I recall. If your're looking for design-fodder try Googling for 'Desert Storm Iraqi defensive positions', or something similar. Tank-net might have some pictures, too.

Triangular or Star pattern, but mostly Triangular.

I was looking on google, along with others, and didnt have much luck. With the triangle, the base of it is facing the enemy, correct? Any idea on the size of it? PCs and inf closest to the enemy?

As I recall from the two or three pictures I've seen, the point is directed at the enemy.

The size of the position would depend greatly on the size of the unit occupying it but I don't know anything about how big they were, except that the picture I saw was for a battalion-sized unit as I recall.

Each triangle effectively pepresenting an small combat team: t-72, bmp & troops with a circular berm surrounding each, but the vertices of each triangle facing oout from the center.

How many assets are in the combat team? Are the tanks behind said bmps and inf?

Here is a link to a short interview that talks about company triangular defensive positions. I'm going to keep looking. I have a book at home (not halfway around the world where I am now) that came out right after Desert Storm. It was geared towards wargamers, and had what I thought was an excellent diagram of just this sort of position. Maybe it too is somewhere on the web.

Found another one:

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/call/call_90-8_ch8.htm

Towards the bottom of the page, it includes an example of a brigade position (made up of battalion triangular strongoints) as well as a diagram of a battalion triangular strongpoint, with platoon strongpoints at the corners and any attached armor in the center. Hope this helps.

Triangular or Star pattern, but mostly Triangular.

that is how the medina was organized alot too, their main mistake was digging in.....
it costed them big u dont take yer armor and keep em in immobile status they dug in and burried under sand bags and made em arty pieces

i think in one of the battlelabs, there was a custom map with the berms included in it. was a nice peice of work and showed a typicsal soviet triangular formation including the concealed routes or pathways between each of the positions. i dont remember which battlelab it was, maybe 7, but thats a guess.
