Can anyone enlighten me with a few artillery clarifications please?

ICM – what influence does the selection of altitude for the ICM delivery have on the outcome? Under what circumstances would you choose different heights – such as 3,200m or 200m?

Is ICM only applicable for targets in the open? Or can you vary height of delivery to attack targets in trees for instance?

Artillery workload – I played the first artillery tutorial where you call arty from the commander’s position on a road with armour transiting along it. Even with some pre-identified targets for FASCAM and HE/ICM I was overwhelmed and by the time I had only 1 FASCAM strike and a couple of ICM strikes queued up, the tanks had been and gone. The arty was falling well after the crews were home making tea. It felt like I needed the mouse clicking skills of a 12-year old zerg rush gamer to succeed?

Am I doing something wrong, or is this the way it is? How do people use arty in “real life” SB scenarios? Do you spend a lot of time hitting empty ground after they’ve gone past or is the trick to “pre-register” arty by setting targets on the map and then shifting them?

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks

Altitude deals with the shape of the arty box in mils. Thus 200 in altitude is a 200 mil change in orientation. I.E., you can make it so the box faces NNW for instance.

PLs and Cos "preregister" certain Key terrain features or "Areas of Interest" ,along a route or in the area they are defending, and shift accordingly. The key thing is to "lead" a group of targets by calling the arty to the area that You THINK they are going to be when the rounds impact. A TOT(Time on Target) from the FIST usually helps in that regard.
