So in the last couple days, five of my six MP game attempts have ended in the first fifteen minutes with a crash-to-desktop.
It usually seems to happen as I'm changing views, in at least two cases from F8 to F6. There were three different hosts, one somewhat laggy but all three were guys I've played with many times before with no problem. The game is running perfectly up to the moment it suddenly vanishes. This has never happened in single player.
The last couple times I End-Tasked everything on my system except Explorer and SysTray. Didn't help. In some but not all these cases, SBChat was still on.
Just before the problem started I installed the Sun Java Virtual Machine, somehow losing in the process the Microsoft Virtual Machine for Java. I suspected this as a contributing factor because under the new machine SBChat runs somewhat worse - could it be hogging specific memory that SB needs?
A McAfee scan reveals nothing. System Scan found and fixed a corrupted file in C:\WINDOWS but that seems to make no difference.
Any ideas? I'm going to reinstall SB tomorrow night and see if that makes any difference - hopefully it will because Steel Beasts represents 90% or more of the reason I own a computer. :D
