I guess this should be directed to Volcanoman. Just wanted to make a few comments about the sounds in SBPro PE. First of all I think they're great. The sound of a round striking the hull is different from SB1. It sounds sort of like a bullet striking a plate glass window. The sound in SB1 was your classic explosion sound. I just wonder how Volcano recorded these sounds. I mean did he place a microphone in a target tank downrange? Also the whoosh sound of a near miss. How was that recorded? BTW I have actually witnessed testfiring of a heat round and it does make an regular explosion sound. This actually took place at an army ammunition plant where they were loading the warheads on tow missiles. I'm just wondering if that ought to be the sound when the hull is struck by a heat round. BTW I also really like the new sound for the infantry fired missiles.

Howdy Foehammer,

In the future there will be a difference between the sound of a HEAT round and the sound of a KE round striking the vehicle, but right now I had to only go with one for both. The recordings all come from the real thing... well mostly real I should say. Lots of sounds are taken from ranges where I actually stand next to a hard target while Ssnake shoots it with a HEAT round and I dance around trying to avoid the blast and get a good recording (just kidding). ;)

Most of the sounds that involve bodily injury (like a HEAT or sabot round hitting a tank) to record are either recordings from a distance that have been mixed with other sounds to make them more powerful as if they were indeed right next to you. All are recorded from firing ranges or they are recordings of a multitude of sounds that have been mixed together to get a sound that I remember hearing from memory. A good example is the maingun round fly by sound where I have taken and mixed a few sounds to reproduce a sound that has been burned into my memory from a particularly traumatizing experience.

That's mighty cool-- I mean the part about Ssnake helping you out like that and all.
 But seriously, I can see that its just as much art as technique. Very interesting. My hat is off to you for adding a big chunk of realism to this sim.

Yeah, he was just kidding. He can't dance.
