How do you override the 2A5 turret when unbuttoned/outside ? It should be KH as far as I can read in the manual. However that is mapped to the HAT switch, and this gives the 12,3,6, and 9o'clock views, when TC is topside..
In the Leo1 it's the gunners Dynamic Lead for overriding the turret, but not so in Leo2.
Did I miss something in the manual..?

While it is possible with a long and flexible arm to do it in real life, it's not the recommended method since you don't really see if the gunner can see the target, even if the gun is roughly pointing into the right direction. It's much better to use Shift+Arrow up/left/right ot get the gunner rotate the turret to the 9, 10:30, 12, 1:30, or 3 o'clock position. By the time he's there, jump into the seat, and take control while you look through the peri/TIM/Direktsichtadapter (Leo 2A4) or EMES replication in the TIM. Quick enough, better precision.

Ok, understood.
I only got handson experience with the Leo1, where this way of laying the gunner on target is(were) trained. If it has carried over to the current Leo2 training I do not know. Offcourse the TC position has been much improved since the Leo1, and it may very well be a better option to jump down now. However, you will loose "the big picture" when sitting down in the turret..

But, I'm wondering, IRL the TC should be able to quickly override the gunner, in order to keep the maingun and turret clear of obstacles. Is it really that hard to reach the control ?

To get to the handle is not hard in Leo 2 (hand is not even straight if only your head is popping out of the hatch), but the handle turns the PERI, not the turret...

To turn the whole turret with the handle you need to use "KH" (kommandant hauptwaffe) first, that moves gun to PERI (turret turns to wherever the PERI is looking), it's not easy to tell where that is when your head is out of the tank and not in the PERI ocular. So when you override the gunner's control you need to know where the PERI is pointing.

Of course you can use "Zü" to align the PERI with the gun, and then use KH to override the gunners control, but it's slow process (PERI is not THAT fast) and after you start controlling the turret with the joystick (actually its a hat-control type thing on a unmoving joystick) the movement is not very precise or stable.

So there are problems with that! That's why I always just tell the gunner in intercom to turn the turret right/left when I'm unbuttoned (I'm unbuttoned most of the time!). When I tell the gunner to turn turret he does it with max speed and stops when I command to do so... In the game it's a bit more difficult than in real life, because the gunner seems to turn the turret back to where it was pointing after a few seconds, but it's not that bad when the barrell cannot hit the trees and damage the stabilizer (or FJA)!!

Anyway, the PERI is very good toy in the game! I've found it less good in real life... (I've got real experience with 2A4 only, so I'm not so sure about the 2A5 PERI A2, but the controls are identical!)

Zip

ps. Is the FJA going to be modelled in later versions???

Thanks for clearing that up.
Guess I just have to get used to jumping up and down then.
Oh well, could use some extra PT anyway :helmet:
