Hello gentlemen,
i've another newbie-question(sorry for that...):
When i for instance shoot with the M1A1 gun on a target while using sabot ammunition i first lase the target the press the trigger and wow, often i hit the target (so far so good!).
It's not the same while shooting with heat ammo!
The impact always is some feet too short!??!!!
I don't know the problem....i use the same procedure. aim-lase-shoot.
Can sombody help me,
Thank you!

Hi Haferja,
did you index the correct ammo? That is, after you hear "HEAT UP!" from the loader, you gotta press the DEL key, for sabot the INSERT key.
You only do this when ammo is going to be changed.
In Leo2 you dont need to do that, as in M1 its the gunner who has to index the correct ammo, wheras in Leo2 its the loader.
Hope this helps!

Thanx for the hint :D
I tried it and....it seems to work fine now!!
Greetings,

That question was covered in the FAQ. I recommend going through all tutorials at least once, and some twice to really understand how the fire control system works (and not just learn the procedures without understanding the meaning behind them).

A little trick I found for doing long range shots whether with HEAT or Sabot, is to stop, lay on the target, lase it, dump the lead and lase again and fire. When I do this I find that the "wobble" in my sight disappears, I find the wobble more pronounced in the M1 rather than the Leo. I got a number of first round hits with HEAT and Sabot at 3500+metres last night using this method.

That will only work for stationary targets though. After all you are dumping your lead solution. But there is no reason to lase again since you have a valid range already induced.

...quite the contrary, you're starting lead calculations again, and all movement of the sight will then start to make it "wobble" again. BTW, the Leo sight never wobbles because it's two plane stabilized. In the M1s prior to the M1A2, the sights are only stabilized in the vertical axis, so the laser that projects the reticule must compensate for all lead induced differences to the LOS.

Every time you laze in the M1 you restart the lead solution, one thing to remember about HEAT is slow, so accuracy at long range suffers a little, also because of its slower flight it takes more lead for smaller corrections. If you want a chemical energy round for longer range try an Mpat(M830A1) or a XM908 both have a smaller heat warhead, with a sabot feature.

...but also just 420mm penetration as opposed to 600mm, and 1400m vs 1140m muzzle velocity. Not a really dramatic improvement IMO. But might make for a nice difference now and then.

there's another thing with HEAT projectiles, since they're slower, any change in speed by the target can make the projectile miss. even a 15 degree turn by the target, while the heat is in the air can make it miss. :casstet:
but the cakebacker is the fact that HEAT explodes when hitting a tree.
not a good thing when trying to take out infantry in a forest.
i've had a lot of TC's suffer burning death because a heat hit a nearby tree.
should learn me to use the coax.

It is really bad when your AI TC obsesses about some infantry in the tree line and wastes most of your HEAT rounds blowing up the trees around them aaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!!!
Got a first round hit with a HEAT round onto a BRDM-AT at 3860 metres last night in Deliberate Assault 3, Gives you a warm feeling all over

Maybe someday we'll get destructible trees. I'd get a perverse kick out of exploding/burning down the copse that those buggersome infantry are lurking in, even if it did take a troop volley of HEAT to do it. :D

When we designed the behavioral rules for the computer crew members, we ignored the possibility of trees fusing the HEAT warheads. When we later adapted the warhead model, the behavior was off because it was designed for a different environment.
Computers a brain dead zombies, and they don't learn by themselves.
