I played a bit with the Leo2A5 graphic. It's nothing dramatic, but I think it does change the overall appearance possitively.
Can you see what I changed (let's have a little quiz  )?

With the winter camo it may be more difficult to recognize....

As always beutiful. A minor thing, the X-pads on the rear of the turret shouldn't be camo painted. They are removed before painting or the tank will look strange when you remove them.

What are the X-pads used for Trekker? Snow cleats?
Trekker

yes, to get foothold on ice. But it's nice to see a 64ton tank do pirouettes.

LOL. I didn't know you were fond of the ballet Trekker. lol. Sorry, and I should have asked this in my previous post to save us all a bit o' time. Does the crew attach one of these cleats to each track pad or to one of every 5 or 6 pads? It doesn't seem there are enough to cover all of both tracks. Secondly, what is your favorite ballet? hehe.

Shouldn't you put them on the tracks on the winter camo scheme ? ;)

Ah, so you still haven't noticed what has been changed? Check the bogie wheels for a chance...

All right, I'm not sure whether these are called 'bogie wheels' or just 'wheels' in English but the wheels marked are what I have changed.

Road wheels they are, right?

A bogie is a wheeled wagon or trolley. In mechanics, a bogie is a chassis or framework carrying wheels, attached to a vehicle. It can be fixed in place, as on a cargo truck, mounted on a swivel, as on a train carriage or locomotive, or sprung as in the suspension of a caterpillar tracked vehicle.
The term Road Wheel is used to differentiate the primary load supporting wheels from the Returns, Drive, and Idler/Tensioner.

i was thinking about the load supporting wheels, when he said bogies, and wondered if he somehow managed to add those. hmm.

So what is the correct designation and what do you guys think about those new (road) wheels I added? They are completely different to the stock wheels.

I don't see any difference in the road wheels except the paint job.

Okay, upper tank has the stock wheels, lower tank has the new wheels. The difference should now be quite visible.

Ok, I see now.

try seeing it in motion. that shadow will spin around with the wheels, sadly.
which is why i opted for a simpler non-shaded texture for the roadwheels.

Thanks. :)
Well, I thought the stock road wheels of the Leo2A5 didn't look too good (those for the M1A1 and the Leo2A4 are quite nice), so I threw them overboard and replaced them.
Now the Leo2A5 looks much more cute, doesn't it? 8)

That's true, but it's not that bad imo. Btw, the original one also has a bit spin, though I have to admit that the spin gets somewhat more visible with the new wheel.

I was thinking about the skin for the wheels.
What is the processor overhead of applying a angle offset as each wheel skin is applied, thereby giving the (maybe minor) appearance of having a "different" camo on each wheel?

There is only one wheel to paint; in 3D all the road wheels are being given the same wheel, so they all look identical.
Attached there is a small video showing the difference between the stock and the new wheels.
Granted, the new wheel spins more, but looks waaaay better anyway. :P

Confusion: I know there is one wheel.
The point I was making is that that one wheel will be rendered on the 3D model at the same angle (I presume). Could you not apply an angle as you rendered it so for
example:
render wheel one rotated 0 degrees
render wheel two rotated 60 degrees
render wheel three rotated 120 degrees
...
These numbers are arbitary, and should even be random. The main con, is of course, EYE-CANDY vs. processor cycles

Hi, after watching your movie that shows the shaded roadwheels I have to agree with deja. When static it looks great but when moving its looks unnatural and the wheels are not so round anymore. Just my opinion. So I prefer the non-shaded roadwheels.
Cheers! 8)

I think I'll have to do some explanation.
'Shadowing' the wheels wasn't the idea. I just didn't like the look of the stock wheels (no offence intended, Deyawolf :) ). Besides, the middle section of the original wheel looks to be prodruding, which just isn't right.
The first thing I did was putting the wheel of the Leo2A4 (which are looking way better in SB Pro) on the Leo2A5. This works pretty well with the winter camo, and in fact the winter Leo2A5 as seeing in this thread actually has the wheels of the Leo2A4. Since this is a stock wheel (repainted by Viper), spinning while moving is minimal.
But the Leo2A4 wheel didn't work nearly as good on the woodland camo. So I came up with the idea of using a real picture and 'borrowing' the wheel for the Leo2A5. Looks great in static, but as always, real pictures gives you some unwanted shading.
I will now do a complete repaint of the stock wheel. Will be back once it's finished. :)

Topic "borrow"
Jaguar, take for it please not my texture. If she does not please you, make a new. The textures make much work. Excuse please, but therefore I do not agree with your changes.
